It's hard to find the superlatives to describe our experience with Despoina and Plethon Residence-5 stars simply isn't enough and that's no exaggeration! We were only able to stay 3 days but Despoina and her husband, Kostas, made us feel like were part of their family in so many ways. (they surely should receive medals for hosting "above and beyond the call of duty"!) We didn't want to leave! They are the friendliest, warmest couple: they saw to our every need and comfort, gave us invaluable advice to find the best restaurants, most interesting sights, and best routes to find them. (and Sparta can otherwise be a challenge to navigate!). The residence itself is absolutely first class. Breakfasts were included and hearty. Every amenity was well provided. But what made our experience in Sparta the most rewarding of our visit to Greece was our opportunity to sit and chat at length with D and K who are so knowledgeable, interesting, warm and hospitable. D is an expert in Greek history and gave us many insights into the local sights. We recommend Plethon Residence with the highest possible rating and hope to be able to come again to visit.
Lieu magique , cadre idyllique, logement et cadre hors du commun ! Le vrai plus de cette réservation, ce sont les hôtes . Réservez les yeux fermés sans aucune hésitation.
Despoina is the perfect host and welcomed us as friends from the start. She shared her great knowledge of the Vale of Sparta, which is a truly beautiful and historic place. Plethon residence is elegant and peaceful, set in an orange grove overlooking the magical Mount Taygetus and the ruins of Mystras. You won't find a better place to stay or a more well informed and friendly host.
A very warm welcome from Despoina - she came to find us when we arrived late, tired and lost in Sparti in the dark (our plane had been delayed). The accommodation was beautiful and she was a fascinating person to talk with over a nice bottle of wine into the early hours - refreshing and enlivening. The next day, she showed us round her lovely grounds including her family history of Philosophy and wonderful library. She told us about the local region and we then enjoyed an afternoon in Mystra. It was a lovely start to a holiday and good place to stop between Athens and the Peloponnese. Helena
For us, visiting Greece was both a personal and professional holiday. We chose to stay near the town of Sparti (ancient Sparta) because of its central location and easy access to archaeological sites we wanted to see..We chose Plethon from the airbnb site and we did not regret it for 1 minute. Firstly, staying here was not like a hotel or motel - take the key and go to your room; for Greeks and especially for Despoina you are guests in their home!! She wants to show you the best of her town. Despoina and all the family were open, welcoming, warm and concerned that this holiday will best for us. The accommodation is really first class, well planned, well thought out - an extension of her home. For people who are looking for a place to stay close to major archaeological sites, the beach, an unspoiled Greek town, warm hosts, excellent food, endless recommendations of places to go and what to see - then Plethon must be at the top of your list.
We stayed at Plethon for six nights and it was a wonderful experience. Our family of six fit nicely into the house. Despoina is a wonderful hostess. Very warm, friendly and extremely helpful with any needed tourist information. She always made sure we had what we needed and provided us with more than we expected! The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are very clean, cozy, and nicely decorated. Surrounded by greenery and quiet, our stay was serene and relaxing. The region offers much to do, with access to many great sites and activities, such as the Diros Caves, ancient Sparta, the beautiful climb to Kalamata, the Olive Museum in Sparta, Monemvasia and the nice town of Gythion, as well as the incredible sight of Mystras, which you can see from the residence. All in all, this is a great place to take a vacation!
We had an excellent stay in Sparti, due in no small way to our host Despoina and our accommodation. The setup with the communal lounge and dinning room, off street parking, and gardens are ideal for families and groups entertaining. The service provided by Despoina and Dimitra exceeded our expectations and are worthy of super host status. If you are going to this region we highly recommend staying at this place.
We enjoyed our stay in the Plethon Residence very much. The apartment was perfect for our family of 5, exactly as advertised and more. The eclectic decorating style, fireplace and expansive selection of cultural books in a variety of languages that were in the apartment made things very inviting. Our host, Despoina was very hospitable, she prepared information about nearby attractions and allowed us to pick fresh oranges from the trees on the property. She was very kind to our children as well. The separate building that was used as a common area was well equipped with a large breakfast table, a cozy seating area, a fireplace, a sound system with a variety of music available, books, and cards which we utilized on rainy days. The apartment is very close to Sparta attractions, the ruins of Mystras, the Museum of Greek Olives and Olive Oil and more. We definitely recommend this listing and will stay again!
