The Space

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. One thing to keep in mind is that this is NOT a high end luxury place. I actually thought the pictures made it look more high-end then it was. But, it is clean, peaceful, spacious, and has everything you need, and the setting is gorgeous - so beautiful with view of mountains and ruins of Mistra!! The breakfast is also a really nice bonus, and Depoina gave great restaurant recommendations too. We went to an amazing place on the mountainside that she recommended!

  • Despoina was a very god and generous host and it was easy to communicate with her. We felt us so relaxed and comfortabel at her place, met some nice other gests and improvised a good dinner together with intresting discussions. We wanted to see Mysta and really enjoyed going there and then we got some god sugestions from Desponia about where to go swimming and eating. She was also specially kind and understanding I felt towards our children.

  • I cannot recommend staying at Despoina's beautiful B and B enough. It is a perfect place to explore one of Greece's most mystical and beautiful sites, the Byzantine city of Mystras, and much more. The breakfast was delicious, the common space the most beautiful I've seen. The rooms have views of the mountains, with orange trees ripe for the picking right out the door. A better host than Despoina could not be found. I truly can't wait to go back.

  • We greatly enjoyed our time here! Despoina was warm and welcoming. We enjoyed chatting about the local area, archaeology and our interests. The area and home are gorgeous and well kept. Waking up in such beautiful scenery was wonderful, with the home in an orange grove, surrounded by the mountains. Breakfast was wonderful and we were able to grill out for dinner with Despoina. Thank you so much for your hospitality! We'd love to come back!

  • We arrived in Sparti a little tired and when we got closer Despoina's place we were a little worried as it didn't seem walking distance to the center of the city. We even got a little lost but when I messaged Despoina about it, she responded right away and had her husband Costas come out to guide us back to her place. After entering her compound, we were blown away with such a beautiful setting. We parked and looked to the right to see the snow capped mountain view and the orange grove Despoina has in her backyard. After a warm welcome from Despoina and Costas, we entered our room which was way beyond what we expected and absolutely beautiful and super clean! It's 2 floors with living/kitchenette and half bathroom downstairs and bedroom/full bath upstairs with a balcony that has the view of the beautiful mountains and Mystras and her backyard. Despoina was really helpful in making us feel welcomed and guiding us about the center city eats and what to see in Mystras and Sparti - The center city is only 5 mins by car and Mystras in only 5-10 mins by car as well. I loved waking up in the morning with such a view and to a great breakfast spread by Despoina. Her daughters are absolutely adorable and one of them lost a tooth while we were there :) Watching her daughters and dog run around the compound and watching TV, etc just made me feel like we were part of a family and I didn't want to leave! My only regret is not being able to say goodbye to her daughters, for some reason, we got a little frazzled when we were leaving but that's my hubby and I, lol. We want to go back to Greece only to stay at her place longer! Despoina's communication thoughout our booking was excellent and her listing doesn't do her place justice. Being there was much more beautiful and relaxing. We recommend Despoina's residence to anyone looking for an amazing experience in the Sparta area - it's absolutely amazing - you wouldn't want to leave her compound!

  • It's hard to find the superlatives to describe our experience with Despoina and Plethon Residence-5 stars simply isn't enough and that's no exaggeration! We were only able to stay 3 days but Despoina and her husband, Kostas, made us feel like were part of their family in so many ways. (they surely should receive medals for hosting "above and beyond the call of duty"!) We didn't want to leave! They are the friendliest, warmest couple: they saw to our every need and comfort, gave us invaluable advice to find the best restaurants, most interesting sights, and best routes to find them. (and Sparta can otherwise be a challenge to navigate!). The residence itself is absolutely first class. Breakfasts were included and hearty. Every amenity was well provided. But what made our experience in Sparta the most rewarding of our visit to Greece was our opportunity to sit and chat at length with D and K who are so knowledgeable, interesting, warm and hospitable. D is an expert in Greek history and gave us many insights into the local sights. We recommend Plethon Residence with the highest possible rating and hope to be able to come again to visit.

  • Despoina is the perfect host and welcomed us as friends from the start. She shared her great knowledge of the Vale of Sparta, which is a truly beautiful and historic place. Plethon residence is elegant and peaceful, set in an orange grove overlooking the magical Mount Taygetus and the ruins of Mystras. You won't find a better place to stay or a more well informed and friendly host.

  • A very warm welcome from Despoina - she came to find us when we arrived late, tired and lost in Sparti in the dark (our plane had been delayed). The accommodation was beautiful and she was a fascinating person to talk with over a nice bottle of wine into the early hours - refreshing and enlivening. The next day, she showed us round her lovely grounds including her family history of Philosophy and wonderful library. She told us about the local region and we then enjoyed an afternoon in Mystra. It was a lovely start to a holiday and good place to stop between Athens and the Peloponnese. Helena
