This estate is a slice of "Old Hawaii", fragrant breezes, rainbows, a forest of Ohia trees, and sunny days giving way to brilliant starlit nights. There is a spectacular warm fresh water spring pool at the ocean side, and a black sand beach all within 10 minutes from your cozy retreat. Also close to lava flow viewing site, and a pristine marine sanctuary for some of the most spectacular snorkeling imaginable. These are just the obvious reasons this is the place for you. But there are many other comforts you will enjoy. Your bedroom has a wall of sliding glass with a breathtaking 180° view of the Puna coastline that is breathtaking. The bathroom has marble counters, and includes a full bath with tub and shower. The Rainforest suite features a king size bed, and deluxe marble bathroom with rain shower, and large steeping bathtub. Interaction with Guests

I enjoy having coffee in the morning with my guests. It's a good way to get to know them, and share with them interesting facts about the island, and the wonderful sights to see in the area.

Other Things to Note

DIRECTIONS TO HOME: 13-952 Kamaili Street
From Hilo travel South on Hwy. 11 toward the town of Keauu, and turn left at the signal onto hwy 130. Drive South on 130 towards the town of Pahoa. Moblie phone service is strong near Pahoa and fades as you continue South. Continue through the traffic signal toward Kalapana. About 4 miles look for mile marker 15 and shortly after turn left onto Kamaili Road towards Opihikao. Proceed down the hill 1 mile, and on the left side of street is a long rock wall with palms lining the front. The address is posted on the phone pole next to entrance to driveway. Turn left at the CENTER of rock wall into grass driveway, and proceed up driveway about 1/2 mile to the house.

  • David was an amazing host with a beautiful home. If your looking for some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to visit and yet still close enough to the beach. I would defiantly stay here again.

Davids dogs were another added bonus that made this feel like home.

  • David felt like an old friend - so easy to get along with - and he made our experience there feel like we were at home. He helped us get to know Hawaii and was there to help with anything we needed. The dogs are so much fun too. I wish I had their life, seriously. And no question the house is beautiful - the views, the lanai, the rainfall shower, it all feels like luxury accommodations. We would stay here again in a heartbeat - no need to hesitate in booking.

  • Wow! What a wonderful place! If you're looking to be secluded and tucked away....This is the place to go be. Wonderful breezes, beautiful greenery and an ocean view from your room that is breath taking. The picture on the website does it no justice. The shower is amazing! I'll just leave it at that and see for yourself. David, the "host", one great guy who we're hoping to keep in touch with. It was really nice to wake up to some really good coffee and freshly picked fruits. That's the way to start the day!

Aside from a great conversation with David, you'll get to meet his three ambassadors, his dogs. They are all wonderful dogs and there isn't anything to be afraid of when it comes to these three, other than getting too attached to them. Lucky is my favorite.

I HIGHLY recommend this place and I know you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for everything Dave and look forward to getting to stay again soon...Dave.

  • i had an absolutely fabulous stay at david’s beautiful home! the large rainbow suite is tastefully decorated, offers a breathtaking view of the ocean and comes with a luxurious private bathroom (complete with extra-large rain shower and bathtub).

the location is great as well: it’s such a relaxed and serene place, surrounded only by nature (and by david’s friendly 3 dogs). yet restaurants and a health food store are only a short drive away at close-by pāhoa. the famous black sand beach and lava flow at kalapana are a few miles down the road going south, while the stunning volcano national park remains within reach too.

in addition, david is a truly excellent host. i immediately felt very welcome and he really went out of his way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. i especially appreciated the fresh fruits for breakfast, going up the volcano as well as the weekly wednesday night spectacle at uncle robert’s which is only a 10 min drive away.

in short, i can’t recommend staying at david’s high enough! i already look forward to my next stay.

  • David - Thank you. Sarah and I had a wonderful time. Your home is beautiful, very clean and has wonderful views.

Sarah and I have a new friend - you. Your warm and interesting conversations were engaging and fun. Your breakfasts were healthy and tasty.

We saw all the local tourist spots and great restaurants that you recommended. We were especially appreciative of the hospitality of your co-hosts, three wonderful, friendly and funny dogs. We especially felt protected when they slept outside our door in the evenings.

    Thank you.
