55+ Positive Reviews! Quiet neighborhood that's a 10 minute walk to a train stop. 15 minute drive to Midway airport. Free parking & close to the highway. Apt is very clean & comfortable!!
Plenty of FREE street parking is available on our block.
This is the first floor of our home so we expect all guests to be QUIET & respectful. If you love to party, stomp around and yell then this is not the place for you. No parties, no loud music & no stumbling in drunk at 2 am. We are old & boring and do not want to be disturbed.
This apt is very big and had a has a lot of natural sunlight. Located on the first floor of our building. We live upstairs in a completely separate apt so we are very close if you have any questions or concerns, but your privacy is assured.
It is a 1 bedroom apartment with a queen size bed, full kitchen with utensils and cookware, full bathroom with tub and linens, living room with full sized sleeper couch and dining. We have a queen sized air mattress as well that sleeps two if needed.
So to recap the sleeping situations-
A. Private bedroom sleeps two people on a queen sized real bed. (2 adults)
B. Living room has a couch that turns into a full sized bed but I personally recommend that you sleep on the couch and don't pull out the bed. The couch is extremely comfortable and very wide. So unless you're really tall, this would be where I would sleep if I were you. (1 average height adult)
C. Another couch in the living room (1 average adult)
C. Lastly, we have a brand new super comfy queen sized air mattress that self inflates in a matter of minutes. That queen can sleep two people & will fit in the dining room or living room. (2 adults)
D. Total- 6 adults
I also have a pack & play which is a travel crib for babies about 2 years and under. Not sure what the official restrictions are on it but if you're a parent you probably know if you kid is too big for a pack & play.
Free Wi-Fi is available but you will need to bring a laptop or a device to use it.
Towels, sheets and blankets will be provided for all stays.
Coin operated laundry is on-site in the building.
Kitchen will have pots, pans, utensils, dishes and cups. Spices, seasonings & FOOD ARE NOT INCLUDED. A gas stove, refrigerator and microwave is available for use in your apartment. Many grocery stores are within walking distance of the apartment. Breakfast or meals aren't included in the price. Many restaurants in the area deliver.
A gas grill is available for your use in the back yard. Backyard also has a patio set if you wish to dine al fresco.
The apt has central heat and window unit air conditioner in the bedroom. A second AC unit was recently added to the dining room.
The apartment is near downtown Chicago with an easy 25-30 minute train ride into the Loop. We are located within walking distance of the 35th/Archer Orange Line subway station that goes to the Loop and Midway Airport. We are close to US Cellular Field where the Chicago White Sox play. We aren't very far from McCormick Place or the South Loop which has many famous museums. Neighborhood next door is Pilsen which is rich in Mexican culture, amazing food and lots of art galleries.
We are both very savvy when it comes to this city and can help you by making recommendations or help navigate you. We're both super friendly so we're happy to help if you have questions about the city. We have both traveled the world so we welcome foreigners with open arms.
Lots of street parking available for free. Some areas have restrictions during school hours but none of the streets require a permit.
Sorry smoking is not allowed inside the building or on the property. Pets or animals are not allowed to stay with you.
Check-Ins- After 7 PM is best. You can always drop your bags off and leave in our apt if you have an early flight and the apt is ready. You can come late as well and I'll leave a key for you. I don't care if you come late as long as you aren't loud when you arrive.
Check-Out - Anytime before noon.
Quiet hours are enforced after 10pm
back yard, BBQ, washer & dryer
Interaction with Guests
Minimal, I usually see them when they check in. I always send a text or stop by at some point to see if they need anything or have any questions. Other than that I don't bother my guests.
Nice quiet family neighborhood.
Orange Line train is a ten minute walk. Many buses are close by as well.
Other Things to Note
Please be quiet after 10 pm, don't slam the door and stomp around.
No smoking on property or outside of property. I'd rather you not stay here if you are a smoker.
Lost key charge of $50 .
Quiet Hours after 10PM.
No parties!! We are old and need our sleep.
$50 cleaning fee for all stays.
Don't be pigs, don't be a-holes.
Get out there and enjoy the city.
Dave and Katie were very welcoming. The house was exactly as it had been described. It was easy to find, very clean. The only bad thing was carrying a very heavy luggage bag from the metro station to their house (12 minutes walking), but we only needed to do that for the first and last day (and that is because we did not call an Uber cab, but we could have very well done so).
Katie and David's place was great for us. We found off street parking right in front of the apartment and getting an Uber into downtown was never a problem. The place easily accommodated the 6 of us and had everything we needed.
Dave & Katie's home is located close to Chinatown and Downtown Chicago. The place was located in a safe and convenient location. There's a Target off of their house's location and exit. There is also a Walgreens that is walking distance at the end of their street. Even though Dave, Katie, and their child(ren) live on the second floor of the house, they were quiet. Sometimes, you can hear footsteps so I would try not to be too loud as I did not want to disturb them. They are great with communication as you can text them and they will respond quick. We got the entire middle/bottom floor to ourselves. The airbed is actually really comfortable. Earliest check-in time is at 7pm and latest check-out time is at noon. Parking is street parking and you'd be lucky if you get a spot in front of their house. The place was clean as well. I would stay here again in the future.
Katie and Dave's place was the perfect place for my short weekend in Chicago. I flew in and out of Midway and was in town for the All Blacks game at Soldier's Field. Both of those places were within easy driving distance. The pics were accurate and the abode was very comfortable.
Fantastic place. It was clean and just as described. Arranging check-in and check-out was very easy and convenient. Dave greeted me and showed me around when I arrived but other than that I had the keys and the place to myself. Would definitely stay there again.
I had planned and paid for a 2-day stay at Dave and Katie's (9/26 & 9/27) but was unable to reach O'Hare airport on 9/26 due to the fire at the Aurora admin center. I reschedule my flight with United (from Columbia, SC) to arrive in Chicago on 9/27th, but that flight was also cancelled for the same reason. Because of these cancellations and delays, I booked a flight home to Portland, Oregon with Delta, via Atlanta. United will refund 100% of my airfare because of these delays.
I advised Dave and Katie of the of my delay and eventual cancellation in real time. My expectation is that my prepaid fees will not be refunded since Dave and Katie were fully prepared to hold up their part of the bargain to house me--it was my problem that I could not arrive on time due to the O'Hare closure. Think I should send an invoice to the arsonist who started the fire?
Katie was very quick in responding to text messages we sent her. The house is orderly and acceptably clean.
We were there in a group of six and I think it was good for the two nights we stayed. The air mattress is OK. We arrived late at night and had to park several blocks far from the house. Overall it is a good stay for a weekend in Chicago.
