  • Blaise's house was a very nice base for our brief stay in Siem Reap. He was really helpful in helping us plan our days there, and provided great advice for the rest of our travels - such as what bus company to use and places to visit in other towns. The most helpful thing he did was set us up with Mr. Mann - a tuk-tuk driver who took us around Angkor Wat. He spoke great English and was incredibly affordable.

Blaise's house is a little out of town - which was really nice for us. We wanted to be somewhere quiet and we were not interested in the nightlife in Siem Reap. It was really easy to rent a bike ($1/day) and bike to and from Blaise's. I would highly recommend that over taking a taxi every day. It's just such a pain to haggle with tuk-tuk drivers, who will tell you "it's so far" to Blaise's house. It's not that far. We just had Mr Mann leave us in town and we rode bikes home. There is a bike rental place right by the Mekong Express office (bus company) in town so we rode bikes in and then got on our bus - we just had small packs so this was easy.

The bed was comfortable. There was no sheet, though. The bathroom had hot water. It was pretty clean. The neighborhood was pretty quiet. Blaise provides drinking water but no food. Great deal.

  • Blaise and his partner are very nice people, we had a pleasant chat with them when we arrived at night and gave us useful information about how to get the most out of our short stay (2 nights). They helped us hire a reliable and friendly tuk-tuk driver that picked us up from the house next morning, drove us around Angkor, took us back at night AND drove us to the bus stop early the next day.

We were given towels and also the house key, which was great and gave us flexibility. We were lucky too that we got the room with the en suite bathroom, however there is another room too that doesn't have the bathroom, but there is one on the same floor. We could also use the fridge in the kitchen and the mineral water dispenser.

The house is not very far from the center by car, just a few minutes, but it is quite a walk, doable by bicycle during the day (in case someone wants to rent one) but at night the road is very dark and has no sidewalk, so I would not recommend a bicycle or walking to and from the house at night for safety.

It was OK to stay there for the short time we had and avoid all the tourists in hotels etc. In case someone wants to stay for a longer period though, perhaps going to the center often would be a bit inconvenient. It's not like you can stop a tuk-tuk outside the door easily. There is a hotel right next door with a restaurant, in case someone wants to have a meal, but we didn't go there, so I am not sure about the food or the prices. We also didn't have to use the kitchen because of our short stay, so I am not sure whether we normally could and whether there are enough kitchen utensils etc. The only feedback for improvement I have to say is that the kitchen area needed to be a bit less messy in case someone needs to use it.

The surrounding area has just traditional houses and fields! Siem Reap seemed very touristy to me, so staying in a quiet place was a good thing for us, however just like Blaise states this is not a hotel! You won't find your room, bathroom or kitchen exactly sanitized or spotlessly clean like in hotels and bungalows, there might be bugs, (of course, it's a countryside house!), although the house has nets on the doors and windows to protect from flying insects. We had a gegko living in our bathroom that didn't really bother us, nor did that cute frog in the garden right were the sitting area is.

If you decide to stay here, I am sure the hosts will try their best to make sure you have a pleasant stay and make you feel comfortable in their own home in the Cambodian country side.

  • Très beau séjour à Siem Reap. Cela a été intéressant de discuter avec Blaise et sa fiancée qui ont pu nous conseiller quant à nos visites. Retrouver le calme de la maison est très agréable après des journées chargées.

  • We decided to go on low budget to Siem Reap . Blaise's house is perfect match for those travellers who prefer this way . House in good condition and located in close proximity to city center . We've got excellent recommendations where to eat , we have got Russian speaking guide upon Blaise's wife recommendation . We were charmed by this couple and highly recommend this house .
