Response from Christy:
I'm sorry Sarah didn't enjoy her stay -- Most people find the space quite comfortable, though it does, as advertised, have only 1 private bedroom. This works fine for some groups but is not ideal for everyone. Many of my renters are single people or couples. The private bedroom has a very comfortable Q size bed, and the yoga room has a super comfortable Q size futon mat (3" hypoallergenic latex foam) which is absolutely just as comfortable to sleep on as the regular Q size bed, except for those with mobility issues who have trouble getting on and off of the floor. There is a sitting area with 2 sofas and a lounge chair, a desk that seats 2, and the kitchen table seats 4-6 people. There is another room (my office) which has a sofa and coffee table. There are certainly plenty of comfortable places to sleep and to sit. Since Sarah rented for 2 people I had not set the house up for 6. As advertised, this is a historic house that a real person lives in a lot of the time, and thus has many amenities of staying in a home, and all the stuff of a home. If you cook or need a bandaid or shampoo, or extra pants because the airline lost your luggage, my "clutter" is a super-bonus (ask the guest who still has the pants). This apartment has my home office and a Yoga/exercise room that are used primarily for those purposes when I am here. Again, these are assets to those who stay here long-term or to work, though they are unconventional for a hotel. There are no granite countertops or luxury fixtures but there is AC, washer/dryer, iron, hairdryer, clothes hanging space, extra linens and pillows, dishwasher, wifi, places to plug your electronics, tv, a color laser printer, basic tools, cleaning supplies, etc. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator stocked with dressings and condiments, pots, pans and dishes, a dishwasher, oils and spices. The historic stove is lit with a match and everything works. There are also about 30 house plants and which most people find quite charming and remarkable and outdoor plants as well. When guests rent, the space is set up so that they have sleep space, kitchen space, space to relax and hang out, and space to put their luggage. My stuff is there, but it's not obstructing guests from having space to themselves or a clean environment. And it keeps getting more even more organized and useful the longer I'm here and the better I get at doing AirBnb. (I have been a host for almost 1 year now) Being a historic 3rd floor walk-up (as advertised) this apartment is not ideal for those with mobility issues, bad knees, obesity etc. If you are afraid of heights let me know and I will arrange for you to enter through the interior of the building. I carry guest's bulky luggage if they have any so they don't have to mess with it on the stairs. Sarah and friends may not have preferred my space because although 2 paid to rent, there were 6 people who showed up, with a large quantity of beer to stock the refrigerator and then they went immediately on the Urban Pirates adult drinking pirate cruise. Honestly, a third floor walk up may be difficult to access if your reason for visiting Baltimore / Fell's Point is primarily drinking, because regardless of whether you have mobility issues previous to drinking you may afterwards. Some people, on the other hand, have come with large groups, gone to festivals like Moonrise, partied responsibly, and been fine with the third floor. I've also had a large multi-generational family group come for the Army/Navy Football game, share the space, and love it. It just depends on your style. I also set up for 6 people to use the space those weekends, because their groups accurately represented the number of people who were coming. I believe only 2 people from Sarah's group were planning to actually sleep at my place, but I didn't know that they were bringing their friends to hang out or I would have prepared the space to make them more comfortable. Thanks!
I stayed here with a colleague while attending a business conference. Christy was really helpful in providing directions and help with whatever we needed. Great location- easy walk to the inner harbor area, quiet neighborhood. Plenty of bars, restaurants, and a whole foods within…
Response from Christy:
RE: Kitty - The house can come with or with out the kitty depending on your pet preference. If you are super-allergic you don't want to stay here. RE: Luggage - I do offer to carry guests' larger luggage or extra bags upstairs for them when I meet them for check-in, and the same at checkout. I myself often travel with a large (45lb) suitcase because of the nature of my trips, so I have gotten good at maneuvering bulkier items up and down the stairs. I will help you out so don't worry! :)
