About this listing
Our 1 bedroom cottage is located in Haiku on the North Shore of Maui. In the heart of our farm, our cottage built on poles overlooks a water lily pond. From the Lanai that surrounds the cottage you see the Pacific ocean that lays a mile down the road.
The bedroom features a queen size bed while a mezzanine offers a sleeping area good for a child. The mediterranean style bathroom and the full kitchen on the covered lanai make this place very comfortable and hard to leave!
Our farm is very quiet and private with very few houses around. The little town of Paia with its numerous restaurants, bars and shops is a 10 to 15 mn drive away while world famous Hookipa surfing beach is a 10 mn away. Going the other way on Hana Hwy is the jungle side of Maui with numerous water falls and hikes.
We all share the garden and the barn that offers a office to which guests have access to. They can use the desk inside or the table outside that usually has a better internet connection than the cottage.
Our neighborhood is made of single houses on agricultural land so the population density is low which is why our area is very quiet.
There is no public transport in the area so a car is mandatory but there is a nice walk to take from the cottage all the way down to the bottom of the street, looking at the ocean from the cliff.
Other Things to Note
We have a 7 nights minimum stay between December 20th and January 5th, otherwise it is 3 nights minimum unless we have a 2 nights opening between 2 reservations.
We try to recycle as much as we can so we expect our guests to use the recycling boxes for glass, plastic bottles, cardboard and aluminum containers.
We also have a compost disposal in the garden that guest can use.

We did not meet Emmanuel and Carine as they were in Chile during our stay. But Nico, who substitute them, was a very cool and friendly host. We stayed at the cottage for one week.
We loved it and would definitely come again. The majority of the space is open and it felt like living in the beautiful nature of Maui.
Unfortunaly there is a building site next to the property with a loud generator or something similar by day. Anyway, this was not a big problem for us, because we usually left the cottage after breakfast.
If we ever come back to Maui we would love to stay there again. In this cottage you can feel the aloha lifestyle.
Staying at the Lily Cottage is a sweet retreat especially if you want to get away from the touristy aspect of Maui. Even though it is mostly a living outdoor feel, it was very clean and there were no bothersome bugs. Our hosts were not at the location but their property caretaker was there if we needed anything. The frogs were cool and very loud which was what we expected. There was a sweet cat that would chill out with us. The bed was comfortable and we had all we needed to cook out meals. The shower was great, large with window to beautiful greenery so it felt outside. The toilet room is very small, I'm only 5'4" and my knees hit the wall. It rained a lot during our last day and things began to get a damp feel in the cottage but that could not be helped. It was an adventure!
We loved the Lily Cottage and would definitely stay again. It is simple and sweet, the majority of the space is open and in Hawaii that's perfect. The bullfrogs from the pond were quite talkative, and the view from the porch is gorgeous. Don't leave any food out and the bugs won't be a problem. Overall this was a wonderful place and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a getaway that isn't a sterile resort experience. This was truly a relaxing and enjoyable week!
I did not get to meet Emmanuel and Carrie as they were in Chile during our stay. My husband and I stayed at the cottage for our honeymoon. It was very enjoyable I just have a few recommendations. First, all of the pots and pans were teflon and there was only metal utensils to use. Not a huge deal just a personal thing. Second there was something, we think it was a water pump, that was making very loud noises all throughout the night. This got to be very annoying as we were trying to sleep. Other then these minor issues our stay was just what we wanted. Nicolas who was tending to the place was great as well!
Emmanuel greeted us shortly after our arrival, making sure we were settled and had everything we needed. We had corresponded ahead of time and he had left beach chairs and some guide books out for us. Niko, who was working on the farm while we stayed, would ask if we needed anything and how we were every time we passed him. They gave us our privacy and were always available to answer a question. The cottage is just as described, a small, well organized outdoor living/kitchen space with a cozy indoor bedroom and bath. The property is about five miles East of Haiku Town in the rolling hills above the Pacific Ocean. It's the best of both worlds, quiet with stellar views and close enough to some exceptional dining in Haiku (Colleen's and Nuka). And if it happens to be raining, the Southern beaches in Kihei or Big Beach are only an hour away, where it is almost always sunny. We were lulled to sleep each night by the sound of frogs, and awoke to blooming water lilies each morning. Heaven.
Absolutely Beautiful, clean, thoughtful , and we plan to come back and stay again next year!

About the Host, Emmanuel & Carine
Originally from France, we moved to Maui Hawaii to become professional windsurfer. We have been living our dream for the last 15 years, traveling the world in search of perfect waves and rich experiences. We fell in love with Costa Rica and built The Beach Bungalows nearly 3 years ago. We are proud to offer a project that has a low impact on the environment. Our friends and partners Christian and Heidi are also the owner of The Beach Club, a restaurant/bar that has the best nights in town. They will welcome you in town and guide you thru your stay if you need help.
