We have 3 bedrooms, currently set up as a double which is ensuite and then a double and a twin which share a bathroom. All rooms can accomodate an additional single bed if required. They all have their own TV but there's also a guests only TV lounge, and you have full access to the kitchen/diner. We also have a lovely conservatory with views over Strathnairn. We're in the middle of a field, with a half mile track between us and the village shop, which is also where the bus to Inverness goes. It's about 9 miles but it's your best bet for eating out, although there are a couple of bars/restaurants about 6 or 7 miles away which provide very good food.
The property is pleasant but nothing fancy, we just like guests to make themselves at home and be comfortable. I leave cereals, bread, fruit, yoghurt, milk and fruit juice in the kitchen for you to help yourself to.
Birch Cottage is the perfect rural retreat but it's within close enough range of Inverness and all the sights the Highlands has to offer as to be perfectly placed. We also have fantastic light here so it would make a great place to come and paint - the landscape never fails to cause joy - even on a rainy day it has its own beauty.
We may be able to accomodate pets but please bear in mind we have a cat on sight.
We request that guests don't smoke in the house, but there are plenty of ashtrays for outside (under cover happily!)
Because we have 3 rooms but have listed this in a single listing it may show as unavailable when in fact I may still have 1 or even 2 rooms still available, so it's always worth dropping me an email to check. Not sure how that works with booking it but I'm sure we can work something out.
I've put check in as 6pm or later because that gives me time to get home from work and change the beds from the previous night before you get there, but should you want to check in earlier just let us know as my partner Paul is around and he does change beds if he has to!
Had an excellent stay!!!! Highly recommended for all those who want to live at a beautiful countryside. Louise was a lovely host :-) Thank you
Louise was lovely, very kind and helpful, the cottage was really nice with spacious and clean rooms. We really enjoyed to go for a short walk long the little river near by the cottage. We definitely recommend Louise and her lovely cottage.
Louise is a very nice host! She helped us a lot and we are so greatful that everything she had done for us!
She has an amazing house and the view around her house is breathtaking. Everything is so peaceful. But if you want to live at her house you must have a car otherwise you can only take a nice walk near the house with the lovely sheep.
Anyway, we really enjoyed staying at her house and highly recommended if you are looking for a place to live in highland or near Inverness!
Firstly, this place is very far out from Inverness. If you're staying here a car is essential. We were planning to just go by bus back and forth from Inverness everyday, but they don't run very frequently and it was impractical. We ended up having to hire a car. This turned out not to be such a bad thing as it gave us a lot of freedom to explore the highlands during our stay. It's quite easy to get to by car and well signposted, but note that there is no actual address, so make sure you get a map and read the directions before trying to get there on your own.
Louise is such a nice, friendly person and an amazing host. She helped us with choosing a car rental company and told us about things to do around the area. And the cat is gorgeous too!
The rooms themselves are great - clean, comfy and warm, exactly what you want in the highlands ;) It was a great place to come home to each night!
The one negative point (other than being far from everything) was that the wifi only worked on one side of the house and even then didn't have a very strong signal.
In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by sheeps, à lovely an comfortable house with à funny shower.
Louise was friendly and hospitable, and her house was so peaceful and beautiful. Thank you, Louise !
Louise was lovely and this place is away from town on a secluded back road from Inverness. It was perfect for me. There were other guests but plenty of space, a great kitchen and lounge area and own bathrooms. Great if you have a car and want to stay out of town.
Well-kept, homely place with beautiful surroundings.
This was a great place to stay! The warm room had excellent views and skylights that provided a great place to see stars from bed when the sky was clear. Rural and secluded, yet not that far from the main highway. Well situated to see the highlands.
We really enjoyed staying at Louise's warm and cosy cottage in the Scottish heartland. Located in a quiet and tranquil glen you can really get away from it all in this country retreat. Close to Inverness Louise welcomed us and made us feel at home. Highly recommended if you are looking for something away from the noise of the city.
