The Space

The top-down renovation, completed in 2012, establishes this spectacular 1899 Victorian Farmhouse as one of Portland’s prime locations for travelers, professionals, romantics alike wanting two bedroom/1 bath housing with extraordinary amenities.

The Living Room, furnished with plush Italian leather, antiques, photo collection of Oregon's historical pictures provides an ideal gathering place for enjoying a game or movie (Direct TV with HBO, Showtime and expanded sports), napping or board games.

Joining the Living Room through a large archway the Dining Room table keeps a wide open connection to the fully equipped kitchen via pass-through and counter bar. Whether you’re making drinks, preparing meals, or making sure no one looks at your scrabble letter this social layout is ideal for small groups who enjoy each other's company.

As well, the two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the floor plan allowing for maximum privacy.

The kitchen is thoroughly stocked to make meals from scratch, or for the quick, click and go/reheat leftover.

A fantastic feature of the front bedroom is that it opens through glass doors second story outdoor deck with seating for four as well as a natural gas infra red BBQ. Take your fresh salmon to the natural gas BBQ for summer grilling. For easy morning coffee and breakfasts or candlelight dinners its hard to find a better location to enjoy the surrounding city views as you watch live Portlandia go by in the streets below.

The apartment’s full bathroom has everything you’ll want for a soaking bath, shower, lots of lighting.

The back ¾ bedroom (no built-in closet) is adjacent to the bathroom, ideal for those who like the bathroom at arms length.

You have a private rear exit that takes you outdoors to the common backyard Jacuzzi hot tub, common BBQ area and sunken firepit seating area.

You can relax in the jetted hot tub or hang out in the sunken firepit dining area. Fenced and gated, this back yard is a wonderful place to socialize, catch up on or read a book. The wifi works throughout but is especially strong in the backyard for those who enjoy being outside when its nice.

From the covered front deck of the house you can watch the newly planted permaculture edible garden come to life.

Located in the Buckman neighborhood, you are right in the heart of all things Portlandia. Some of the local favorites include The Screen Door, Larylhurst Theatre and Pub, Matador, Eastburn for restaurants. Whole Foods is 8 blocks away, so is NE/SE 28th Ave where you'll have over a dozen eating drinking options.

Likewise, the common areas in the back will be shared with the myriad of travelers, professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, iconoclasts from the four corners of the planet,

Please know that we love animals, a lot. We don’t allow pets on the property however. Even if yours is wonderful, quiet, adorable and irresistible without knowing it they attract critters we really don’t want. So we just have to say a regrettable but firm no. Please don’t try to appeal this. It breaks my heart to say no.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Rob was a great host and the place was exactly as described. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the living room was an awesome place to hang out. My sister and I stayed for a week and had a marvelous time. The only issue we had was with the internet but Rob immediately fixed it. The location was awesome- great restaurants all around. Highly suggest visiting the Screen Door and Crema as the food and beverage was fantastic at both. Would definitely stay there again when I come to Portland!

  • My colleagues and I had a great stay at Rob's wonderful property. The whole process - initial contact, follow up, booking, check in, stay and check out - was easy and friendly. The apartment was pristine and it had everything we needed. The beds are comfy, the living areas spacious, the kitchen is big and ready to cook. The location is great with many places to eat and drink walking distance and a convenience store right at the next corner. I recommend this property to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, easy access place to stay in Portland.

  • Rob's place was great for our visit to Portland. We had a car during our trip so getting to and from downtown was very easy, even during the weekdays. The neighbourhood was nice and quiet but still close to great cafés and groceries. The apartment has everything you need and Rob was very friendly and quick to respond to any questions we had.

  • I stayed here for a couple days recently when I came to Portland for a friend's wedding. The apartment was amazing! Everything was clean and well-taken care of, Rob had set out a complimentary bottle of wine for us, and the jacuzzi out back was hot and ready to jump into when we arrived. I would highly recommend staying here!

  • Rob's listing was exactly as pictured and as expected, except it was BIGGER! :) Checkin and Checkout were both fantastic and super easy. Rob is an excellent communicator, and we had everything we needed during our stay! The spa hot tub was such a great addition to our stay, so relaxing and beautiful under the stars. The most amazing coffee shop (Trailblazer Coffee) is just 2 blocks away, as are some great little eats! Thank you Rob for an amazing stay! Although this was a work related trip, your listing made us feel like it was more of a vacation!

  • Rob and Allison where amazing. Our flight was delayed....and then of course everyone knows how awful renting a car is....so we were late they were more than helpful in accommodation our late arrival. Even let my cousin in to cook us dinner! :) Amazing!!!!! The house was beautiful with great open floor plan and they even left a bottle of wine for us! (That was appreciated after a long day of travelling!!!) The two night were perfect even got to chat with Allison a bit which was pretty cool. She was gracious enough to bring us more blankets the second night. Overall it was a great stay and I cannot wait to get back to Portland. We will be staying there again!!!!

  • This was my second time staying at Rob's (different unit this time) and it was just as great! The apartment was spotless, exactly as advertised, and the check-in and check-out processes went very smoothly. The location seems unbeatable. I look forward to visiting Portland again.

retired psychotherapist
I've recently retired my practice of many years as a psychotherapist and am opening this new chapter 1) running my 1899 Victorian Farmhouse Fourplex as a guesthouse for travelers and visitors and 2) exploring the intercoastal waters of Puget Sound, Southern BC and Vancouver Island via sailboat. I've sailed the last two summers into what I call the Tropical Alpine waters of Desolation Sound. I will be going again this summer as well. I love jazz (I bang out a decent amateur clarinet), water, people, reading, comedy, salmon, red wine and Amy Goodman and the fine (email hidden). I enjoy meeting thoughtful, mindful, playful, friendly people from all over. As a host I'm fun, casual, curious about everything, capable as a landlord. I've lived in this neighborhood over 20 years and can help you get your bearings. When I travel I prefer bouncing aimlessly towards various convergence points with friends usually to sail or ski.
