About This Listing
We are a young artist couple in our twenties. There are three bedrooms in the apartment for guests. Amazing public transportation (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, C, E, B, D subway, M60 bus), clean, friendly atmosphere, fun, safe neighborhood. : )
Thanks so much for your interest! Before you read on, please know that this listing is not a good match for you if:
You have more bags than you can carry up and down three flights of stairs.
Need a very quiet place to stay. NYC is not the city for you if you need utter silence to fall asleep. Central Harlem, Manhattan, is not your neighborhood if you go to sleep early and need quiet!
You need an address to receive mail or packages. We do not accept mail on your behalf-- but UPS, USPS, and FedEx have short-term mailbox options, and they're all nearby. If you're ordering from Amazon, there are also several 24/7 Amazon Locker locations nearby.
If you are okay with the above, then keep reading! :)
The Indigo Room is our largest room, suitable for two people. It has a comfortable queen-sized bed, large South-facing window, shelves for storage, a study desk and chair, and roomy custom-built clothes-rack. There is a window air conditioner in the bedroom and in the main areas in the summer time. The apartment has heating, and in winter we also provide individual space-heaters for guest bedrooms.
We have three bedrooms available in one apartment. We live in the apartment; there is one bathroom.
Our other guest rooms are the Forest Room, which is the same size and price as the Indigo Room, and the Scarlet Room, which has a twin sized bed, and is strictly for one person.
To view the other two rooms and their availability, please click on our photo to get to our profile, and then view the listings on the left.
We charge no deposit, no cleaning fee, and no fee per person. The only extra fee we ask is for $20 if you check in before 12 pm or leave your bags after 11 am.
We give a 10% discount for reservations of 7 nights or more, and a 15% discount if you reserve more than one room *and* stay for 7 or more nights.
The neighborhood is very safe, and the subways and buses in NYC run 24/7. You're welcome to check in as late as you need to, and to come and go as you please with the keys you will receive. There are lots of restaurants and stores open all night in our neighborhood, great for if you're jet-lagged and hungry~ :)
We live in an amazingly well located 4 bedroom in Harlem, New York. We're unusually close to all major subway and bus lines not only of Manhattan, but to all of NYC and the surrounding area. The apartment is recently renovated, spacious, and bright, with tons of South-facing windows.
Our place is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic New York City experience-- a relaxed, artistic home with a few friendly faces waiting for new guests!
See you soon!
Rudy + Laura

Please feel free to use our living room and kitchen are free for use at any time. Feel free to cook, eat, work, and hang out.
We provide soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner for guests in the bathroom.
There are always clean sheets and towels in the living room.
Dish soap and laundry detergent is always available for guests in the kitchen. Feel free to also use our pots and pans, eating utensils, and basic ingredients like salt, spices, and oil. :)
Interaction with Guests
We live in the apartment, and both work outside of the home. Interaction is up to the guest-- we respect your privacy, but if you'd like to chat, we'd love to get to know you.
We are located in the heart of historic Harlem, home to generations of world-famous artists, intellects, and art and social movements, from Jazz to the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement to hip hop, street art, and the Harlem shake. Not to mention the great architecture, parks, restaurants, and entertainment!
Popular places to visit include Maysle's Independent Cinema, the Lenox Jazz Lounge, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the world-famous soul food eateries Red Rooster and Sylvia's, the Apollo theater, and much more-- all within 5 minute walking distance from the apartment. Central Park is a 10 minute walk; we walk our dog Juniper there almost every day, if we're not at Marcus Garvey, Morningside, or Riverside Parks! There are three gyms within a block of the apartment. Lots of restaurants and cafes, grocery stores, delis, and weekend Farmers and Craft Markets in the neighborhood.
People hang out outside in Harlem a lot, especially on weekends and when the weather is nice, since most people don't have yards. Don't be surprised to see people on stoops, and beach chairs, playing chess, talking, barbecuing, or just hanging out. The neighborhood is safe and it's not dangerous to walk around at night even if you see groups of people outside hanging out. :) They're there to have a good time, not harass visitors.
Our apartment's location is rather unique in that ALL major subway lines are within a 5 minute walking distance from us. This almost *never* happens in this city. Getting to anywhere in NYC and the surrounding areas is amazingly.
15 minutes from Times Square by subway.
Closest subway station is about a 1 minute walk from our door.
Subway lines within 5 minutes' walking distance: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, B, C, D.
We are 3 blocks from the MetroNorth train station.
You can travel to and from JFK by walking to the subway and taking it straight there (no transfers).
Newark Airport is easily accessible via the subway and LIRR.
The M60 bus from LaGuardia Airport lets you off on our block.
There is free parking on our street, but if it is crowded, there are several parking garages nearby.
Other Things to Note
Please note that we are on the fourth floor, and do not have an elevator.
Mon-Fri: 4.30PM or later
Sat/Sun: Message to coordinate for particular dates.
By 11 am of your last day. The front doors lock automatically, so you can just leave your keys in the bedroom (don't lock the bedroom door).
We ask for a $20 fee for leaving your luggage past 11 am.
Our schedules do shift around so this may change at some point.
At check-in, you will get your own keys and you'll be free to come and go as you please. The neighborhood is very safe to walk at night, and New York really never sleeps!
Check out is by 11 am. We ask for a $20 fee for leaving your luggage past 11 am.
Please, do not bring anyone other than the people in your reservation into the home without speaking to us first. If you have a friend who would like to join you, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Please write your name on any food you keep in the kitchen.
You can smoke on the fire escape, which you can access through the kitchen window. It's a great view of the neighborhood!
We would love it if you would leave your shoes at the door.
The room is exactly as promised. Everythig is clean and of good qualit. The hosts are relaxed and easy to communicate with, if you so wish. If not it as easy going with them. I would definitely go there again.
This is my first time using airbnb and I must admit it won't be the last. Rudy and Laura made me and my guest feel welcome before we arrived in NY. With a quick response rate they were both waiting on us to arrive at their flat. I'll try not to echo what was said before but if your looking for a clean, comfortable, convenient place to stay while in NYC, hit these guys up. They gave advice on where to go, places to eat and what to do. Rudy even bought me water and brought coffee (where he's an expert btw)
When I visit NYC again, I hope these guys can accommodate.
We are a couple from Germany and stayed for three nights at the indigo room. This was our first time using airbnb. We really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was clean and had a good size. Rudy had to work when we arrived but his sister was there to let us in and show us around. There is nothing bad we could say about this place. The subway and bus station are right around the corner along with some shops and cafes. Thank you so much for this experience.
L'appartamento è in posizione eccezionale; vicinissimo alla metro (linee 2 e 3 con percorso utilissimo) e non distante da altre linee: in 10 minuti si arriva a Times square.
All'interno è semplice e carino, esattamente come nelle foto.
Ci tornerei sicuramente!
Rudy and Laura are very welcoming, they gave us some advices.
The flat was clean !
we recommend to stay in this flat !
