We are a young artist couple in our twenties. There are three bedrooms in the apartment for guests. Amazing public transportation (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, C, E, B, D subway, M60 bus), clean, friendly atmosphere, fun, safe neighborhood. : )
Thanks so much for your interest! Before you read on, please know that this listing is not a good match for you if:
You have more bags than you can carry up and down three flights of stairs.
You are afraid of cats-- our very gentle and friendly cat may walk into your room if you leave the door open, and you should be comfortable with picking her up and putting her outside of your room if you don't want her in there.
Need a very quiet place to stay. NYC is not the city for you if you need utter silence to fall asleep.
If you are okay with the above, then keep reading! :)
The Indigo Room is our largest room, suitable for two people. It has a comfortable queen-sized bed, large South-facing window, shelves for storage, a study desk and chair, and roomy custom-built clothes-rack. There is a window air conditioner in the bedroom and in the main areas in the summer time. The apartment has heating, and in winter we also provide individual space-heaters for guest bedrooms.
We have three bedrooms available in one apartment. We live in the apartment; there is one bathroom.
Our other guest rooms are the Forest Room, which is the same size and price as the Indigo Room, and the Scarlet Room, which has a twin sized bed, and is strictly for one person.
To view the other two rooms and their availability, please click on our photo to get to our profile, and then view the listings on the left.
We charge no deposit, no cleaning fee, and no fee per person. The only extra fee we ask is for $20 if you check in before 12 pm or leave your bags after 11 am.
We give a 10% discount for reservations of 7 nights or more, and a 15% discount if you reserve more than one room *and* stay for 7 or more nights.
The neighborhood is very safe, and the subways and buses in NYC run 24/7. You're welcome to check in as late as you need to, and to come and go as you please with the keys you will receive. There are lots of restaurants and stores open all night in our neighborhood, great for if you're jet-lagged and hungry~ :)
We live in an amazingly well located 4 bedroom in Harlem, New York. We're unusually close to all major subway and bus lines not only of Manhattan, but to all of NYC and the surrounding area. The apartment is recently renovated, spacious, and bright, with tons of South-facing windows. We love plants, interesting books and art, stones, candles and cool decor and furniture! As free-lancing artists we put a lot of love into the home, constantly updating the design and utility of each room. We're open to your critique and suggestions, especially for the guest bedrooms!
Our place is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic New York City experience-- a relaxed, artistic home with a few friendly faces waiting for new guests!
See you soon!

Interaction with Guests
We live in the apartment, and work from home most days, running in and out throughout the day for meetings and errands. Interaction is up to the guest-- we respect your privacy, but if you'd like to chat, we'd love to get to know you.
We are located in the heart of historic Harlem, home to generations of world-famous artists, intellects, and art and social movements, from Jazz to the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement to hip hop, street art, and the Harlem shake. Not to mention the great architecture, parks, restaurants, and entertainment!
Popular places to visit include Maysle's Independent Cinema, the Lenox Jazz Lounge, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the world-famous soul food eateries Red Rooster and Sylvia's, the Apollo theater, and much more-- all within 5 minute walking distance from the apartment. Central Park is a 10 minute walk; we walk our dog Juniper there almost every day, if we're not at Marcus Garvey, Morningside, or Riverside Parks! There are three gyms within a block of the apartment. Lots of restaurants and cafes, grocery stores, delis, and weekend Farmers and Craft Markets in the neighborhood.
People hang out outside in Harlem a lot, especially on weekends and when the weather is nice, since most people don't have yards. Don't be surprised to see people on stoops, and beach chairs, playing chess, talking, barbecuing, or just hanging out. The neighborhood is safe and it's not dangerous to walk around at night even if you see groups of people outside hanging out. :) They're there to have a good time, not harass visitors.
Our apartment's location is rather unique in that ALL major subway lines are within a 5 minute walking distance from us. This almost *never* happens in this city. Getting to anywhere in NYC and the surrounding areas is amazingly.
15 minutes from Times Square by subway.
Closest subway station is about a 1 minute walk from our door.
Subway lines within 5 minutes' walking distance: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, B, C, D.
We are 3 blocks from the MetroNorth train station.
You can travel to and from JFK by walking to the subway and taking it straight there (no transfers).
Newark Airport is easily accessible via the subway and LIRR.
The M60 bus from LaGuardia Airport lets you off on our block.
There is free parking on our street, but if it is crowded, there are several parking garages nearby.
Other Things to Note
We are on the fourth floor (third floor in Europe)-- no elevator.
We have a quiet, friendly dog and a cuddly cat.
Our neighborhood is very safe, very busy and not always quiet at night.
At check-in, you will get your own keys and you'll be free to come and go as you please. The neighborhood is very safe to walk at night, and New York really never sleeps!
Check in is any time after 12 pm noon. Please let us know what time you will arrive as soon as you know, so that we can schedule to be home for you. Check out is by 11 am. We ask for a $20 fee for checking in early (before 12 pm) or leaving your luggage past 11 am.
Please, do not bring anyone other than the people in your reservation into the home without speaking to us first. If you have a friend who would like to join you, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Please write your name on any food you keep in the kitchen.
You can smoke on the fire escape, which you can access through the kitchen window. It's a great view of the neighborhood!
We would love it if you would leave your shoes at the door.
Asani, Sueminn, Rudy and Laura were all very cool people! We felt welcomed the whole time. I would now call them my new friends for sure :)
The art around the house is beautiful and so creative. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in New York! It is a 1 minute walk to the 2 and 3 subway lines, 10 minute walk to 4,5,6 lines, and in a nice area of town. We felt like we were home away from home. Thank you guys! I miss your place already!
Great apartment, plenty of space plus all you might need as a traveller - extra information about the area, coffee and tea, soap and shampoo. Neighbourhood seems decent, although I didn't spend much time there. The bed was pretty soft.
Excellent place to stay at. Warm room, comfy bed, a fluffy cat frolicking around, all the info you need on a "wall of info" in the living room, an artistic ambiance. Parfait ! Thank you Asani & Sueminn.
Asani and Sueminn were very hospitable and welcoming. My friend and I had a stopover in NYC before heading to school in a different state and came with huge baggage (almost 60lb or 27kg) each, even though we knew there were stairs to climb to their apartment. Sueminn readily helped us in lifting the baggage up to the apartment on our first day, while Asani helped us with bringing them down on our last day! The room is much bigger than it looks in the picture and their home is really cosy, with friendly pets, louie and juniper (who are respectful of our personal space as well!) Sueminn also provided us with extra heaters, which were really useful in our case, coming from a warm climate to winter in NYC. Subway stations were also close by, and did not take more than half an hour to get to Times Square.
Harlem was a joy to be in, the area had good food, all within walking distance from the apartment. The people were polite and friendly, never hesitating with providing directions, or simply holding the door for us.
We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and would recommend this place to anyone who wants a culturally enriching experience in NYC.
Asani and Sueminn provided a lovely Indigo room in an artistic apartment. I frequent Harlem often and wished a "pied a terre" especially on evenings with multiple events and changes of clothing. The price, location and ambiance fit my fantasy. I am old enough to be a parent but the accommodations were fresh attractive and more than comfortable giving or an old lady.
During my stay my partner who had a recent stroke needed to leave quickly they were discreet and more than kind in helping me to get him to a cab to return home.
I hope to return many times and give them the highest recommendation to both family and friends here and in France.
This experience was amazing! We arrived later. Expected because of a plane delay and Asani and Sueminn stayed up for us. We stayed in the indigo room and it was nice. The bed was super comfortable. We came and went as we pleased. We weren't there very often as we were there to see New Year's Eve in Times Square but it was still accommodating. The subway is very close and the bus drop off is a block from their place.overall the experience was convenient and very pleasant. I recommend them to anyone who travels to New York! Thanks again guys! Us South Dakotans enjoyed our stay!
Translated from Italian: "The apartment is very clean and very close to the subway (the number 3 if I remember correctly), which makes all the places of the city within easy reach. Asani & Sueminn two guys are very helpful, hospitable and friendly. The house is inhabited by a friendly dog and a cat very sociable. The apartment is well equipped for every need."
