We have a free car service to the subway and its 20mins plus to downtown Manhattan with service every 10mins from 6am to 10:30pm then every 20mins. We are also a block away from the B4, BM3 Express and B44 Select bus terminus.
The Select busses provide high speed service with few stops and auto green light ability. The Express busses are slightly more expensive and luxury motor coach type vehicles.
The B4 goes to Sheepshead Bay subway station with access to the B Express and Q Local subway lines and then continues on Bay Ridge. B44 Select goes to Flatbush Target Mall/Brooklyn College (20mins), with access to 2 and 5 subway lines and continues on all the way to Williamsburg. The BM3 goes to Manhattan
Other Things to Note
Compared to Manhattan and even the Burroughs, the boat is in a very quiet area. This is mainly due to an 8' high imitation grass fence and the fact that the marina's is well below the surrounding ground level. This also protects us from wind making the marina very placid
Notwithstanding, we are next to a large cinema complex, 4 restaurants, a 24/7 deli with excellent prepared foods. A short walk away is an excellent beach situated in a national park.
We live on quiet dock...we ask that people observe quiet hours that go from 9 pm to 9 am.
There are wood floor installed in boat. If they get wet we ask that you dry them (we will provide towels to do so). We have spent a lot of time upgrading and making the boat very livable. We just ask that you would treat our place like you would yours! Thank you!
Please also note that no pets or animals are allowed. The waterway we are moored on is part of the Gateway National Park and regulation prohibit the same for our location.
I had a wonderful time! Lisa was an excellent hostess, and Angus was extremely friendly when we spoke. Using the MTA, it's about an hour to the city. That was absolutely no problem! After a long day of sight-seeing, it was so nice to return to a quiet houseboat. :-) Best sleep I've had in ages! The WiFi was excellent, and having the 24/7 Bagel Shop right there (which has a Hot + Cold Buffet, to boot - the Cops love it for good reason) was excellent! I'd stay there again ... in a heartbeat! My visit was blessed by beautiful weather. :-) If it were a "bad weather day"; I would have hit the TGIF restaurant (coolest TGI Friday I have ever seen - better view of the same harbor you see from the houseboat), and the UA Theater with IMAX across from it. I lucked-out with great weather. If I hadn't, I could think of no better place to stay, because of the options. No Regrets.
Lisa is a lovely person who immediately makes you feel comfortable. It was great that she picked us up and offered to drive us to the subway station if needed. Lisa and Angus offered a lot of information about what to do in the neighborhood and how to get there.
Sitting on top of the boat was one of the most peaceful moments in our vacation and it is a wonderful spot to stay for several days!
One note: If you're a bit tall (over 6 feet) the bed can be a bit short, but that's something you can expect on a boat :)
We had a lovely experience from booking through goodbye.
Lisa was incredibly helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations, and just such a welcoming and generous host.
The boat was clean and well-stocked with anything you could ask for.
Will definitely book again for another quick getaway from the city!
We had great time at Angus & Lisa's Houseboat! It's a little far from the subway station (8$ taxi ride). Angus & Lisa gave us lifts to the Subway station, which was very kind. We also did some kayak in the bay. You have a Satellite TV & Wifi. Make sure to eat at the Lobster restaurant. You Can also find everything to eat at Knapp street bagel. We would return!
Enjoyed hosting Catherine and we would welcome her (website hidden) we enjoy taking our guest to the the subway as it gives us 3 to 4 minutes to get to know how they are doing and if we can help. Also if you really want to go it alone, the B4 bus runs every 10 mins and stops right at the station's Voorhees exit and only costs $2.50
The place was actually really quiet. I was expecting it to be bigger but in general it was a good place. The hosts were very nice friendly and helpful. Their information was always accurate. There is food 24 hours nearby, so you can rush to the supermarket if you feel hungry or want some snacks.
On the other side it was far away from the venue (Uptown Manhattan) where I was having a conference so it always took 1.5 hours to get there and coming back. My mistake, not theirs.
Great guest who went his own way and was very quiet.
We strongly recommend using our free car service to the subway stop some 3mins away. However the local B4 bus service has dramatically improved and now runs every 10mins. D there is one every 7 mins during peak hours and once every 10 mins
From MTA's schedule for the B express subway.
Our stop 7:10, downtown Manhattan 7:40, midtown 7:47 (34th st), uptown 7:55 (59th Str Central Park) and far uptown 8:06 (125th street. Past upper Manhattan and in the middle of Harlem)
These times are about the the same right up to the last train at night. In other words it takes 30 mins to Manhattan and 37 mins to the top and Central Park.
As a visitor it's very important to realize you are one of almost 4 million others roaming around Manhattan and sharing facilities with the one and a half "townies" that live there so getting from A to B will take time.
We loved our experience on the boat, it's different.
Thank you Lisa and Angus your availability and your welcome.
I loved eating breakfast in the morning on the roof of the boat.
I recommend your "housebarge" to our friends and family who want to go to Brooklyn.
Thank you again!
