About This Listing
Charming, beautiful cozy home (800 sq. ft/75 qm) located right above Candlestick Park with beautiful garden and great view of San Francisco Bay. Internet included. 2 bedrooms, the downstairs room has French doors that open onto the garden. From the upstairs bedroom you can see the sun rise over the water and East Bay hills. The garden contains many beautiful flowers, around 10 lemon trees that produce fruit all year round. In September the plum trees will have a lot of fruit and the Pippin Apple tree will have a million apples on it (great for pie). Full kitchen (I love to cook). Full laundry down stairs. Bathroom has a shower (no bath tub). Plenty of parking and super neighbors. Shirley & Earl will chat you up. Shirley will probably come over and pick plums to make jam. If you're nice, Josh & Ray will invite you to dinner.
The neighborhood is quiet. Cafe's, bars & restaurants in the Mission are 10 minutes away, downtown 5 minutes more by car. The light rail stop is a 10 minute walk. The views and garden beautiful and my home is perfect for a single person, couple or couple with one or two small children.
When I go to Berlin, I go to school and work remotely.

Michael and his neighbor Shirley and her husband were all great. Had a minor hiccup getting in phone or email contact with Shirley for key arrangements but that may have had to do with us trying to figure out when we exactly might be able to arrive with our car-seat adverse toddler 12 or so hours before ETA -- our drive time was a little longer than we expected in the end and we just knocked on Shirley's door upon arrival when we couldn't reach her by phone. Our stay really all went swimmingly. Shirley graciously lent us an additional space heater -- SF gets a little cold for a couple of Angelenos. Shirley even brought us some homemade jam the next day. We got the history of the bungalow and its previous owners -- father and son from Holland built the cottage from the Sears catalog in the 1930s. Her husband lovingly waters the plants that he can from his front yard to help Michael out. I wish I lived in the neighborhood myself. The house itself is cozy. Kitchen is well stocked with spices. The balcony is great to sit and sun with a coffee. Street parking is really easy. My husband used the Caltrain station about a mile away to go to work. Close enough for a 5 minute drive/dropoff. There's enough hot water for three adults to shower one after another. Washer and dryer works well. Wifi internet connection works. It was a good stay for us -- felt like home away from home. I would highly recommend staying at Michael's.
We recently moved to San Francisco and used Airbnb for 6 weeks of temporary accommodation while apartment hunting. Mike really went out of his way to help us out, picking us up from the airport 2 weeks before we even started our stay at the cottage. He met with us a few times to show us around the city, helped us move between the places we stayed at, gave us loads of advice on apartment and job hunting, and was generally an excellent tour guide with in-depth knowledge of seemingly every corner of the city!
The cottage itself is beautiful, very peaceful and we never tired of the view over the bay, particularly lying in bed watching the sun rise every morning! The kitchen was amazingly well equipped for everything we tried to cook, and we had plenty of evenings in front of the fireplace. We loved the garden, the incredibly friendly neighbors, Mike's collection of books and records, the endless supply of fresh lemons!
We didn't eat out much in the local area, but there are grocery stores within walking distance, and it's easy to jump on public transport to get around San Francisco.
Very highly recommended!
Thanks to Mike, we had a great stay at 86 Ignacio. The cottage has very nice sized rooms, a fantastic kitchen with all the works, and a backyard complete with orange and lemon trees. Not too much else you can ask for.
If you have a car and are commuting to the Peninsula/South Bay, the 101/280 are a stone's throw away although when traveling north, I really enjoyed taking advantage of 3rd Ave which allows you to cruise right through Dog Patch into the heart of the city. Potrero Hill / The Mission are also very close via the 3rd Ave and new public transportation on 3rd Ave is also very convenient.
I have nothing bad to say about Mike's cottage except that as I type from my cramped diggs in Brooklyn, it makes the places here feel that much more inadequate. Good luck and book this place with confidence knowing you'll have a terrific stay!
We had a great stay! We were comfortable and happy with everything Michael's house had to offer. His neighbours are the best, and we probably talked with them every day. We definitely felt like we were in good hands. Get some help with directions from Mike or his neighbors--we noticed that some cab drivers and airport shuttles weren't sure where the house was! Other guests might mind that there isn't a microwave and no cable tv, but we were fine without.
We had good time! Nice, quiet and independent house with a big garden and nice view to the bay. Neighbors were fantastic. Location is great. It is 15 min from the airport and downtown. Once you become familiar with the highways 101, I80 and 280, you move around the city very quickly. Mike was very meticulous in providing all details to use the house and to find grocery stores.
Mike was absolutely AMAZING!!!! He went out of his way to pick us up from the airport and take us for groceries on the first day we arrived there. He did everything he could to make our first time in San Francisco incredible!! After the first time talking to him on skype my friends and I were just like "Mike is AWESOME!!" and he continued to be more and more awesome as we talked to him more! He's a great guy, his house is amazing!!! (An incredible deck with an amazing view and fresh plums and lemons every morning!) His neighbours are also fantastic! They were super friendly and gave us great advice!! Our experience at Mike's place was amazing and we would definitely do it again!!!!!

What I love about my house (in no particular order) seeing the sunrise from bed, looking out over the bay, I love my neighbors. When I'm away I really miss my garden and lemons. It's quiet, safe and beautiful here.
