The apartment is a one bedroom with a dining area, living room, full kitchen, one full bathroom, and a deck with sliding glass doors. The deck faces southwest into New York Harbor and has clear views of the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty. The bed is a queen size with a three year old memory foam mattress. The apartment also has wifi, a laundry room in the building and a garbage chute on the floor. There is also a DVD player with many DVD's for your viewing pleasure.
The apartment is located in a luxury, twenty-four hour doorman building directly adjacent to the Battery Park City esplanade.
The immediate neighborhood is almost exclusively residential and therefore very quiet and safe at night. There are restaurants, shops, a movie theater, two Gristedes grocery stores and a 24 hour bodega in walking distance. Parks and bike paths also abound. The apartment is a five to seven minute walk to the 1, R, 4, and 5 subways, a few more blocks to the 2, 3, J and Z and around the corner from the M20 bus stop and a cab stand.

We had a totally positive, 5 star experience staying at Rich's place! His rates are so affordable when compared to other similar places that we actually kept wondering if it was all "too good to be true," but the many enthusiastic reviews convinced us to snatch this place up while we could. We're so glad that we did! We've been raving to all of our friends about what a great deal we got and how nice Rich's place was -- especially the location. Add to that how nice, responsive, helpful, and accommodating Rich was, and we couldn't be happier with our choice! If we plan another trip to NYC, we will definitely hope that Rich's place is available again!
Location is amazing ... Close to transportation, shopping, and dining options. It has excellent views of Hudson River and Statue of Liberty. Very spacious flat and comfy bed. Lovely little balcony that gives fantastic sunsets behind the Lady Liberty.
Arrived on Christmas Eve late evening and was kind of put off by first impression ... Trash in kitchen and dirty bathroom with visible dirt and hair on the silicone around the tub and grout in the bathroom. Television only has DVD availability, no local or news stations ... However, Rich DOES have a large collection of DVDs for your viewing pleasure.
Understand that it is an old apartment that needs some work ...
When I travel, I don't always expect perfect, but I do expect clean.
I didn't get to meet Rayette though we communicated via text and email and we got along great. I would like to clarify a few things however: the trash in the kitchen was in a bag in a trash pail, I forgot to take it out before they arrived which I absolutely should have. It was not, however, littered around the kitchen as the review may seem to imply. And while it's possible I rushed my preparation this time around, I do think the bathroom was much cleaner than reported, as the other 20 reviews would indicate. Lastly, the apartment is not old, the building was built in 1986. It's a modern doorman building. Rayette mentioned some cabinets not closing perfectly. These imperfections to my eye are barely noticeable, no other guest has ever commented negatively in this regard.
Richard's place is wonderful! It was neat and clean. The view from both the livingroom and bedroom, that has a balcony, is fabulous! The river and Statue of Liberty is right there!! Great location and close to the train. Walking distance to Battery Park and all of the downtown sites. Wifi and laundry is available too. I love going to NYC and will definitely stay at Richards again!!
Loved the apartment. Definitely much better than a hotel and the view was great.
Loved it! Everything was easy to get to and close for what we wanted to do! Thanks again Rich for letting us stay! If we need a place in New York again we'll check with you 1st.
The place is awesome! It is a great location, very spacious, and has everything you could need/want. Rich is fantastic- very nice man. The bed is comfortable, the little balcony makes you feel like you are on an awesome vacation! Laundry in the building, door man, elevator building, and super nice/very flexible host. If you ever have opportunity to rent this apt., don't hesitate! Couldn't have been happier!
Great. Exactly like it looked in the photos, and way roomier than we were expecting. Richard was out of town at the time but was extremely attentive and was in contact via text. Great location, and close to as many subway stops as you'll ever need.
The apartment is exactly as described - very cozy and perfect for 2 people for one or more weeks.
The position is great for visiting NYC during the day as it is in a central position and very well connected with Metro lines at walking distance; maybe in the evening (being a residential area) there is not much to do around.
We did not get the chance to meet Richard – however he was available over the phone for any need – btw everything in the flat and in the neighborhood was as expected so we did not need any further help from Richard.
The apartment was spacious, affordable, and an overall great experience. Couldn't recommend enough!
Staying at Rich's place was my first experience using airbnb and it was all I could wish for...great location, easy access to transportation, reasonably priced and awesome (email hidden) is one cool dude...STAY HERE!
