Being one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Yogyakarta has many heritage buildings and monuments. The number one must-see attraction is Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono's palace, better known as Kraton Ngayogyakarta. Other heritage buildings from colonial era are: BNI '46 building, Kantor Pos Besar (Central Post Office) building, and Bank Indonesia building, all of them are located near Sultan's palace. The famous Borobudur and Prambanan temples also is in the must to visit list, and dont forget to visit Kota Gede is a silent witness of the rise of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom that ruled almost the entire Java. The cemetery of Islamic Mataram Kingdom forefathers, the fort’s ruins, and the other historical remains can be found in Kotagede. Not to mention the traditional market Beringharjo and Malioboro street it just 15 to 20 minutes walk from our Casa.
What can we say! We loved staying at Casa Mia Room 2. It was immaculately maintained with attention to detail. The bathroom was luxurious with towels and selections of soaps and oils.
We arrived late in the afternoon and were welcomed with a selection of tea juice and cakes served in the impressive pagoda. Breakfasts varied from Continental to Indonesian with plenty of fresh fruit.
Emi (pronounced Amy) with her lovely smile was always helpful, whether on local eating places or on tourist sites in and around the town centre. She arranged for us to be driven to the impressive Borobudur Temple and the Merapi Volcano – we were sadly too late for the Prambanan Temple, but that was our own fault for getting carried away with Borobudur.
When we arrived in Yogyakarta we hadn’t decided on how to spend our time. It was thanks to Emi’s suggestion that we decided to fly out to Bali and take in the beaches in and around Seminyak. It was late Sunday night and to this end, with Emi’s help we managed to book the flights and hotel online and found ourselves on the Air Asia flight at 6:25 the following morning! - for this we will be eternally grateful.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Emi's house. She was an incredibly helpful and welcoming host. She arranged a driver to take me to some of the outlying temples (Borobudur, Prambanan, Boko), which was really great, and was always forthcoming with recommendations as to places to go (and not go) in Jokja. The room itself was very comfortable, clean and in a convenient location. If you are looking for a 'home-base' in Jokja, look no further. I cannot recommend highly enough, and will definitely stay again when returning to Jokja. Thanks Emi!
Great stay at Emi's home, we really enjoyed the place : not too far from the city center (at least 20minutes walk, depends where you want to go) and a beautiful place to be, especially the bathroom!
The room is spacious with a good bed ans a TV with satellite. Very clean.
Emi is such a wonderful host, alway's taking care of us. She will help you to plan what you want todo/visit and she is very friendly and easy to communicate with.
We will definitly recommand her place for anyone going in Yogya!
Our stay at Emi's home was just amazing and definitely one of the best we have had in Indonesia. Emi is the perfect host: very helpful, extremely nice and friendly, interesting to talk to and doing everything for a perfect stay. She helped us with getting a driver and several cabs, flight tickets, she recommended the best sightseeing places and secret spots in Yogyakarta and - when it comes to food - she knows many really good places with delicious food. The house and the surrounding garden are just wonderful equipped with beautiful traditional furniture. The room we were sleeping in is spacious, tidy, stylish and kingsize bed is so cosy. Furthermore there is an open bathroom with a huge tub. Staying at Emis is like being in a really good hotel including all amendments like AC, TV, mini bar, daily cleaning and new towels, Wifi, delicious breakfast, etc. in combination with a very warm, very caring, personal touch. The only thing you need to be aware of is the mosque nearby starting to pray at 4.30 am. But thats a thing you should try to get used to when travelling on Java island.
Great stay in a great home and great host! Thanks Emi for making our stay in Yogya memorable!
Emi was very friendly and eager to share her knowledge about her city and Indonesia in general. She helped us organizing our trips to Pramaban, Borobudur and its surrondings.
The room in itself is spacious, very clean, charming and the breakfast, yummee (homemade)! An upside though is the bathtub which is huge and very inviting but there is NOT enough hot water available to enjoy it (barely enough hot water for 2 showers per day).
We stayed for 5 nights at Amy's place. We had a great time there. Amy is a wonderful host who makes you feel right at home. When we arrived she treated us with a delicious home-made dessert and each morning she prepared an extensive breakfast in either indonesian, French or english style and everyday it was so delicious.... The room is spacious, clean, has satellite tv and a remarkably beautiful open garden bathroom with a huge bathtub.
Furthermore Amy is more than willing to help out with anything you might need (transport, tickets for ramayana ballet, restaurant recommendations.
The house is located 20 minutes walking up north from the train station. As the main attractions ( kraton, water castle) are south from the train station this means you need to either walk quite a bit, or arrange a taxi / motorcycle / bicycle taxi.
All in all, great stay and Amy is a lovely host!
