Garden available to use. Near restaurants, wine bars, shops, bus line, Whole Foods. Portland at your doorstep!

The Space

Buckman is a close in SE Portland neighborhood which is an increasingly popular place to live. The apartment is at the eastern end of the neighborhood. There are parks, a picturesque cemetery, good restaurants, wine bars, craft brewing pubs and the Laurelhurst movie theater, all within walking distance. The #15 bus line runs to downtown on the other side of the cemetery (6 blocks). A little further afield (just over a mile) is the Hawthorne district where there are some off beat shops and more places to eat and drink. Downtown is 2 miles away.
The apartment is part of a new build and is situated at the rear of the property next to the garden It is one story up (over the garage) and receives a lot of natural light. It is fully self-contained, all appliances are new which makes self-catering very easy. What it lacks in history it more than makes up for in convenience!

The Neighborhood

Buckman is pretty close to downtown while still having a residential flavor. It also contains a number of agreeable restaurants, wine bars and brewpubs.
Everyday shopping needs such as grocery stores are also well served. Additionally it is pretty easy to get to the major freeways for travel purposes.

Getting around

Buses run to downtown and back a few blocks over.

  • This cozy studio was just as excellent as the other reviews led us to believe. Coming from New York City, it felt more spacious than expected with four walls of natural light (and lush Portland foliage visible through the windows).

The washer and dryer were very handy, as well as the refrigerator and dishwasher. We thought we'd use the stove more, but nearby restaurants were too enticing. Everything was clean and tidy.

We'd never stayed in SE Portland before, but it's great neighborhood, plenty of breweries, restaurants, and coffee shops nearby. Cara and Roger provided plenty of tour books for the area and greater Portland. Our two cents for the best places in walking distance: Paadee Thai Food (sit at the bar and it is happy hour menu anytime), Crema for great coffee, Coalition and Migration brewing for local beer, and the Rocking Frog for fresh coffee and donuts and a relaxing afternoon reading. For a little bit of a hike, go to Enso's Urban Winery ($15 a bottle!), steal one of the couches or armchairs and kick back.

Most importantly, Cara and Roger were so friendly and hospitable. We're recommending all of our friends to stay here and we hope to return as well. They were great hosts and we had the most relaxing, wonderful week here.

  • Our stay at Cara's place was absolutely perfect! The apartment was very clean and bright, with all the amenities we could have wanted. It was close enough to walk to a lot of shopping & restaurants (including VooDoo donuts and some of Portland's famed food carts.) Thanks, Cara and Roger, for helping to make our vacation great!

  • Cara was a great host and the apartment was spectacular. It felt very much like being home whenever we were there. Would highly recommend this listing to anyone and if I am ever in portland again I would try to book Cara's place again.

  • We enjoyed our stay very much! The apartment has nice furnishings and includes everything you need. The hosts were easy to contact and helpful. The only thing we would change about the apartment is the firmness of the bed, it was a little too firm for our tastes. Even if you added a down mattress topper it would make a big difference. This place is beautiful and feels a bit luxurious.

  • We completely enjoyed our stay at this Cozy Portland Studio. It was very comfortable with all the nicest amenities. The bed was soooo comfy! And it was such a pleasure to have a nice kitchen to use, plus the washer/dryer & ironing supplies proved very convenient after my hub bought a few new shirts. He wanted to wear them ASAP, so we had a chance to wash and iron them right there! Yay! Our one suggestion for future guests is to be sure that you are "good" with the stairs. Fortunately we were fine, but someone who has some physical limits might keep this in mind. That said, this is a PERFECT PORTLAND PLACE!!! In a wonderful neighborhood with easy walks to nice restaurants and shops on the Eastside. Easy, quick access to Downtown PDX by car or public transport. Lovely, warm and very relaxing spot! Very thoughtful hosts, who laid out a delightful Welcome! mat! Thank you very much!!!!!

  • This is beautiful, very private accommodation at a reasonable price

Location is in a trendy older suburb with great shops and restaurants. While we walked into the down town area busses are cheap and easily available.
It is a huge studio with full modern kitchen, comfortable bed and dining and living space - all almost new. This is one of the best airbnb accommodations that we have had. The hosts have provided all the comforts that one may need.
The hosts were very welcoming without being intrusive and communicated promptly prior to our arrival
    Great stay

  • I never made it to Portland, needing to turn around mid-trip due to a family emergency. Cara kindly gave me a refund.

  • This was my first experience with Airbnb and what a start! If all airbnb places are like this I'm going to give up staying at hotels!!! Staying at Cara and Roger's was like staying at a five star hotel but with a homely feeling. Their attention to details is impressive. They have everything you could possibly need during your stay for example, herbs and spices to cook, great kitchen ware. The location is awesome. It is close to Wholefoods and great restaurants and cafes. Cara and Roger are great hosts and very helpful. I really enjoyed meeting them. I highly recommend this place.
