Stand alone mother-in-law apartment, brand new, bright and quiet. Close-in in Portland's Buckman neighborhood. Sleeps 2 comfortably. Amenities include free wi-fi, cable, w/d, full kitchen. Garden available to use. Near restaurants, wine bars, shops, bus line, Whole Foods. Portland at your doorstep!
Buckman is a close in SE Portland neighborhood which is an increasingly popular place to live. The apartment is at the eastern end of the neighborhood. There are parks, a picturesque cemetery, good restaurants, wine bars, craft brewing pubs and the Laurelhurst movie theater, all within walking distance. The #15 bus line runs to downtown on the other side of the cemetery (6 blocks). A little further afield (just over a mile) is the Hawthorne district where there are some off beat shops and more places to eat and drink. Downtown is 2 miles away.
The apartment is part of a new build and is situated at the rear of the property next to the garden It is one story up (over the garage) and receives a lot of natural light. It is fully self-contained, all appliances are new which makes self-catering very easy. What it lacks in history it more than makes up for in convenience!
Buckman is pretty close to downtown while still having a residential flavor. It also contains a number of agreeable restaurants, wine bars and brewpubs.
Everyday shopping needs such as grocery stores are also well served. Additionally it is pretty easy to get to the major freeways for travel purposes.
Buses run to downtown and back a few blocks over.

We completely enjoyed our stay at this Cozy Portland Studio. It was very comfortable with all the nicest amenities. The bed was soooo comfy! And it was such a pleasure to have a nice kitchen to use, plus the washer/dryer & ironing supplies proved very convenient after my hub bought a few new shirts. He wanted to wear them ASAP, so we had a chance to wash and iron them right there! Yay! Our one suggestion for future guests is to be sure that you are "good" with the stairs. Fortunately we were fine, but someone who has some physical limits might keep this in mind. That said, this is a PERFECT PORTLAND PLACE!!! In a wonderful neighborhood with easy walks to nice restaurants and shops on the Eastside. Easy, quick access to Downtown PDX by car or public transport. Lovely, warm and very relaxing spot! Very thoughtful hosts, who laid out a delightful Welcome! mat! Thank you very much!!!!!
This is beautiful, very private accommodation at a reasonable price
Location is in a trendy older suburb with great shops and restaurants. While we walked into the down town area busses are cheap and easily available.
It is a huge studio with full modern kitchen, comfortable bed and dining and living space - all almost new. This is one of the best airbnb accommodations that we have had. The hosts have provided all the comforts that one may need.
The hosts were very welcoming without being intrusive and communicated promptly prior to our arrival
I never made it to Portland, needing to turn around mid-trip due to a family emergency. Cara kindly gave me a refund.
Great place with all the necessary amenities. Awesome location to get around Portland! High recommend
This was my first experience with Airbnb and what a start! If all airbnb places are like this I'm going to give up staying at hotels!!! Staying at Cara and Roger's was like staying at a five star hotel but with a homely feeling. Their attention to details is impressive. They have everything you could possibly need during your stay for example, herbs and spices to cook, great kitchen ware. The location is awesome. It is close to Wholefoods and great restaurants and cafes. Cara and Roger are great hosts and very helpful. I really enjoyed meeting them. I highly recommend this place.
Cara & Roger were thorough, thoughtful and responsive in every way even though we were unable to meet in person. Their instructions were precise and they prepared a folder with all needed neighborhood and city information. I really enjoyed the Portland magazines and the tour books they left, while enjoying the bottle of wine they left as a welcome. The beautiful lily was a particularly cheerful touch! (It lasted all week!) The apt is airy, bright and very comfortably furnished. Wonderful to have washer & dryer in the studio apt & a well stocked kitchen. I had visited Portland many times before & always stayed in downtown SW. Our son opened the Hungry Tiger - a vegan pub just 12 blocks away - reason why I stayed at the Buckman location this time. Cara & Roger's place is my favorite Portland stay. It made me feel like a fortunate local. Besides all the wonderful places to explore around the apt, I walked to the beautiful Chinese Garden in Chinatown via Burnside Bridge in 30 (website hidden) can be reached easily going north on 28th. Hawthorne likewise very accessible. To go downtown to the art museum on foot was also 30 mins via the Hawthorne Bridge. So many interesting streets & shops & cafes & restaurants along the way - and lovely gardens, even in the middle of winter! I want to move here!
Cara and Roger were perfect! My boyfriend and I arrived in Portland around 11:30 and the place wasn't going to be ready until 3:00. Roger kindly offered to take our bags into their home so we could walk and explore the neighborhood without lugging our suitcases around. When we did go into the studio it was absolutely perfect! There was a bottle of wine, coffee and books about Portland waiting on the coffee table, as well as a little binder of information Cara and Roger put together full of bus routes, restaurant recommendations, etc.
The neighborhood is very quiet and only a few blocks away from the #20 bus to downtown. There are plenty of shops nearby and a Whole Foods 1/2 mile away to get a few groceries. My boyfriend and I walked south to the Hawthorne district and west to downtown a few different days - it is a bit of a jaunt but totally doable if you don't want to take the bus.
Cara and Roger are fantastic hosts and made our trip so much more enjoyable! I recommend this location to anyone visiting Portland!
Great location and a fantastic space. A great space to explore the city or to serve as a base for a work trip.
We had a great experience staying at Cara's apartment. It was very comfortable, with plenty of space us for us to relax. The apartment is above a garage but it is very well insulated and was nice and warm throughout our stay during a chilly stretch in Portland. Its in a great location, very convenient to getting anywhere in the city, and we were able to park on the street across from the property without any trouble. The apartment is in a quiet neighborhood and we felt completely at ease walking around it at any time of day. Its also located very close to a number of great restaurants, bars, etc. All in all, its hard to imagine a better, more reasonably priced place to stay in the city.
We never met Cara in person, but she was super friendly and responsive in our virtual interactions. She laid out clear instructions for accessing the studio and finding the place was a breeze!
When we arrived, the heater had been turned on ahead of time, which was such a cozy relief from the chilly weather. A bottle of wine and fresh coffee awaited us and everything looked perfect!
The entire studio is beautiful-- very clean and new. All the appliances worked great (we loved having a washer and dryer with our five month old in tow!)
For couples with a baby: this is a great spot. There is soft carpet to crawl around on, ample space on either side of the bed for a travel crib, and the whole place is just generally cozy.
Thanks so much, Cara, for giving us a lovely place to rest and relax in between our Portland adventures!
