The Space

Buckman is a close in SE Portland neighborhood which is an increasingly popular place to live. The apartment is at the eastern end of the neighborhood. There are parks, a picturesque cemetery, good restaurants, wine bars, craft brewing pubs and the Laurelhurst movie theater, all within walking distance. The #15 bus line runs to downtown on the other side of the cemetery (6 blocks). A little further afield (just over a mile) is the Hawthorne district where there are some off beat shops and more places to eat and drink. Downtown is 2 miles away.
The apartment is part of a new build and is situated at the rear of the property next to the garden It is one story up (over the garage) and receives a lot of natural light. It is fully self-contained, all appliances are new which makes self-catering very easy. What it lacks in history it more than makes up for in convenience!

The Neighborhood

Buckman is pretty close to downtown while still having a residential flavor. It also contains a number of agreeable restaurants, wine bars and brewpubs.
Everyday shopping needs such as grocery stores are also well served. Additionally it is pretty easy to get to the major freeways for travel purposes.

Getting around

Buses run to downtown and back a few blocks over.

  • I booked this place for my cousin and his wife, as they came to Portland for my wedding. They absolutely loved their stay! They commented a few times about all of the amenities and how Cara thought of every little detail. They were so impressed. Thanks so much for a great place for my family to visit. Sherika

  • Honestly can't wait to get back to stay at cara's cool bungalow getaway. It's perfectly appointed, fantastic neighborhood, really easy to get in and out and super comfy when you're there. The hosts are smart and helpful and helpful. The room is large, bright, clean and has everything you'd need. First rate all around.

  • A brand new, very nicely furnished, well-equipped studio apartment. It was sparkling and spotless, comfortable and spacious for 2 people. Filled with natural light, and everything a guest might need. The attention to detail is fabulous, down to the luxurious bath towels, filled ice trays and I really appreciated the oscillating fan on warm days. Thank you also for the welcoming bottle of wine and fresh morning coffee!

The neighborhood is very convenient. A short walk to some great bars and restaurants. Easy access to downtown. This is a city apartment, so you do hear some traffic noise.

Cara is an excellent host and communications were thorough and quick. We would love to return on our next visit to Portland.

    Response from Cara:

Thanks for pointing these things out, particularly the tacks issue.

In some ways we are learning as we proceed. The place was new last year and neither of us would have thought about tacks. We have fixed the problem now but I think that we will need to check this regularly.

Coincidentally, I had begun to think that the shower mat was not looking right and in fact decided to wash it before even reading your comments. This was unsuccessful, so a new one is in place now.

We will look into shower head options.

    Thanks again for your feedback.

  • The cozy studio is perfection for a single traveller or couple. It's cozy; it has everything you need and nothing you don't. My favorite aspect: natural light on every side! Highly recommended!

  • My stay at Cara's cozy apartment was perfect. I found it exactly as pictured in the listing. The keyless, coded entry made accessing the separate garage apartment very easy and convenient. The apt was supplied with everything that one might need. It was super clean and smelled fresh. On a non-specific note, the place just had a good vibe about it. It was so nice having laundry in-unit so that we could leave after our stay with all clean clothes. Also, the apt is located in a quaint, safe neighborhood that is walking distance to bars and restaurants. Accessing downtown via Burnside was a breeze which is locate just a few blocks from her house. I would definitely stay again!

  • This apartment was just lovely. Very comfortable and well taken care of. The neighborhood puts you in close proximity to the activities on Burnside and Belmont Avenues and with a stretch, Hawthorne. It also is close to bus routes into the city. I highly recommend this apartment.

  • Cara's place is a sterling example of what airbnb can be at its best. The place was spotless, location was great, and her personal touches were so welcoming. She left a little bottle of wine, made certain all amenities were included, and left a nice little booklet that helped orient us to both the place and Portland in general. The washer and dryer were really nice to have as well. We couldn't stop talking about how much we loved the place, and we were so sad to leave it. But we are already planning our return to Portland, and we're hoping to make Cara's "cozy little apartment" (which is actually quite spacious!) our temporary home again!

  • This apartment lived up to its listing. It was extremely clean and well appointed with many amenities including outdoor access to the garden. Both the apartment itself and neighborhood were quiet with easy walking access to both downtown and Hawthorne areas as well as public transportation. Local tourist information was available for planning daily excursions made more enjoyable by both the coffee and wine that was provided. Would not hesitate to book a return visit.

  • My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in Portland. Cara was very attentive and a great communicator. She was available but at the same time given us privacy.
The studio was clean and a perfect size for a single person or couple. Cara set the apartment up with city maps and guidebooks, a few items for cooking (ie cooking oil, spices), and even some local coffee to brew and a small bottle of wine.
The location is quiet and within walking distance of restaurants/bars/grocery store/parks. Our stay was very enjoyable and I highly recommend this spot.

Professional couple who enjoy urban life with 2 simple cats. New York is too fast, Seattle too crowded, Portland is just right. Hosting out-of-town friends (and now strangers) is pure pleasure in this great town!
