Interaction with Guests
I am a French woman, and I like to meet my guests and share my knowledge about Montevideo, the great location of the apartment, and many good suggestions to enjoy your time here. Your welfare is important to me. It may be possible also that our dates dont coincide, in that case somebody of my trust will welcome you, give forst informations and we will follow communicating by (website hidden) or mails. Work very good.
But I am not in Montevideo all of the time; I live in Buenos Aires and sometimes cannot be in Monteviedeo at the same time as you. I also go wiht people for horseback treck wiht gauchos, very authentic but bad conexion internet. In that case, my answer could be delaiyed.. And so, we will interact by email, a website (url is provided in the apartment), and my local friend.
The area is full of coffee shops, restaurants and bookshops. A 2 minute walk from the turn-of-the century grand theater and tango music, supermarkets, and bakeries and a butcher is one block from the corner, or they also do deliveries. Theater Solis is less than a block away. It takes only a few minutes to walk to the bustling city. All administrative offices and banks are in the nearby district. One block away is the famous Academy of Languages. Only a 2 minute walk to the seaside promenade called The Ramblas and the old port, the famous “Puerto del Mercado” where the Ferry lines depart for Buenos Aires (a 3 hour crossing of the channel) – a 5 minute walk on two pedestrian streets. The district is a 20 minute walk to the first beach, and 10 minutes by bicycle along the large pedestrian ramblas on the seaside. There are busses going to each beach, and the stop is only 1 block away.
all bus stations, one block, street buenos Aires, the one one front to the Solis theater; the bus D1 go direct to all beaches, and Pocitos, it is a nice bus. But only each half and hour, and less in sunday.

Internet/WiFi: All the information for WiFi, the RED and password, are on a white carton at the entry to the apartment.
Gas: BBQ and Gas Range in the kitchen. When the gas is finished, it is necessary to request recharging from Supergaz (phone numbers in the apartment), who will replace the container in about an hour, for 400 pesos. You must give them the exact address and your mobile phone #. It is better to do this between 2 – 7 pm weekdays, while Jorge, the doorman, is at his desk downstairs. Jorge can also help with the phone call if you do not speak enough Spanish.
Hot Water: The temperature of the shower water is predetermined between 30°-50°, depending on if it is winter or summer (see website). It is CRITICAL to find the correct temperature for you WITHOUT adding cold water, as there is a risk of malfunction when using both hot and cold water.
Garbage and Filters: in Uruguay you must always use filter in both the bath and the sink. You must gather the residues or hair, food and sand and throw into the garbage, else the system in the floor will begin to smell. You may put plastic bags from the supermarket in the service boxes. On the same floor as the apartment, there is a chute near the stairs where you can put tied off bags of garbage. For wine bottles or other glass bottles, put them under the chute and Jorge will collect them. For a large garbage bag or many glass bottles, put them downstairs in back of the white door, close to the (website hidden) bottles are refundable at all supermarkets.
On rainy days with the door closed, you may want to use the dehumidifier. When the water level gets full, make sure to empty it. If you are using the terrace or during dry weather, make sure to put the dehumidifier on zero (0).
There are 3 plants on the floor. If the leaves are beginning to come loose, or the dirt is dry, they should be watered until the dirt is damp.
The electricity in Uruguay is very expensive because it must be purchased from Brazil. PLEASE be responsible with the use of heat or AC, not forgetting to turn them off if the terrace is being used or the windows open.
Ventilation: There is an electric fan in the bathroom to use when taking a shower. There is also ventilation in the living area. When the weather is nice, it is much better to open the door to the terrace, while keeping the screen door shut.
You can use the products left on the sink, and replace what you use before you leave. There is a closed box, which is NOT to be used – it is for the cleaning staff. Thank you for respecting this rule.
The shampoo, conditioner and soap can be used. Please replace the toilet paper so the next person has it (website hidden): and Internet are from satellite. There is one general plug. On the table behind the screen are two remote controls. One is for the TV screen, programs; the second remote is for the DVD player to enjoy my collection of films in English, Spanish and French.
Although the host was unable to greet me a neighbour met me and explained the apartment to me. I did get to met the host at the end of my stay. She is charming. Email contact was excellent.
The apartment was as described. The other reviews really say it all. Funky in a charming way is appropriate. The location is excellent at the top of Sarandi, a pedestrian mail. steps from Plaza Independencia where all the buses pass. Being on the seventh floor with a lovely balcony with barbecue, the view up and down Sarandi is spectacular. You can even see the container and cruise ships enter and leave the harbour.
The apartment is well equipped. I found everything I needed.
There is a choice of grocery shopping close by. Full service laundry is a short distance away with excellent service and price.
Excellent restaurants are within easy walking distance. I even found one with vegetarian items on the menu.
The apartment was exactly as described. The view from the terrace was fantastic. One night there was a parade on Avenida 18 de Julio and I was able to watch it from the terrace. The kitchen is very well stocked. The location is excellent. There's even a pub nearby that serves craft beer. I would definitely stay here again.
Nice apartment in a great location. In the old town area of the city, it has good transport to go anywhere else. Close to the coast, restaurants, museums and other interesting sites. Despite its location, it's very quiet. And you will see the most amazing sunset colours ever. Last but not less, Sophie is a superb host. Very good option.
Let me first say that I lived in this apartment for 2 months so I have a good idea on it's pluses and minuses.
The Location: In a word, superior!! Sarandi, a busy pedestrian street, allows you to hear more interesting sounds and do some people watching than an normal street with auto and motorcycle engines whizzing around. Sarandi connects all of the important plazas in MVD and is easy walking distance to three grocery stores, one daily street market, and the laundry services on Andes.
The Building: well built 1960's modern on Sarandi -a pedestrian only street. There is a doorman every afternoon (not weekends) who is very kind and helpful (Jorge). The interior of the building has a few offices, but is mostly residences. Everyone is very kind and isn't noisey. The public spaces are very clean and vacuumed weekly.
The Apartment: Cozy is a good word to describe the space -a little funky is a good word, too (in a good way). The floor plan is not efficient as the living room and sunroom are additions to the main structure and this causes the kitchen to be located in three rooms. Somehow this quirkiness is what gives the apartment charm. Everything is clean and worked. The plethora of DVDs and the hard drive with movies are a nice addition when it's raining outside (and it can really rain in MVD!). The WiFi was fast at 13 MB (Uruguay has good WiFi).
The Host: The host was in Paris when I arrived, but she had things set up for the neighbors to be there to greet me and that worked well. She was always available by email or (website hidden) if a question needed to be answered. I talked to the host by (website hidden) before leaving and it was decided that I would give the keys to the doorman upon leaving. All very easy.
The View+Balcony: The apartment is on the 7th floor (there is an 8th floor, but no one lives above you. You can see the River Platte, the length of Uruguay's most important street (18 de Julio), and all of Sarandi. Also, the bells of the church in nearby Plaza Matriz keep you on time.
The negatives are few: low (but adequate) water pressure in shower, a small freezer for ice cream, and you may have to order cooking gas (but it is actually quite an easy process).
All and all a great place to stay!
All that is true. Sorry i will not find place for an addicional freezer, it is already satured with several machine usefull. For the gz, ther is not other possibility, when the tank is ended, for the BBQ or cooking, everyone has the charge to call the gaz service for changing the tank of 13 liters, quick and not expansive. But there is one microwave also for saving the moment. All sugestions are always welcomed, thank you. Argentine
Sophie was terrific. While not in the country at the time she emailed in English, providing useful information, and real time help to any queries or issues. A wonderful location, in the middle of Ciudad Vieja (the old city of Montevideo), with easy access to restaurants and sites. And great views from the rooftop deck. A great value.
