About this listing
Hi, we're a friendly warm and well-travelled couple with a toddler and a lovely house in a convenient and sought-after location. Will is a journalist working upstairs from our loft and Petica is a full time mother who normally works in tv.
This is a charming and quiet Victorian house with a distinct style, and I think if you come from abroad you would feel you were truly staying in an English house - though with evidence of much international travel in the house's decoration!
We're based in a convenient and vibrant residential location popular with media and arty types. You could hang out in this area for weeks and not get bored - lots of trendy bars and pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, boutique clothes shops, parks and clubs and the lovely Queen's Park with tennis courts etc. As well as supermarkets, farmer's market and so on. It is really one of the nicest parts of London in the spring/summer.
The room itself looks out on the garden, has a 125cm-wide double bed (with a brand new mattress as of 20th March 2014) with storage drawers, hanging space, shelves, and a little desk-bureau. . The bathroom is nearby and shared with us, but there is also a pleasant shower room and a third toilet, so it's never crowded. There's a lovely garden, and a well equipped eat-in kitchen. There is wireless broadband all over the house.
I should say that our garden backs onto the trains of the Overground about 30 metres from our house, but they are amazingly quiet and there has never been anyone complaining. There is also a skipyard between our garden and the trains, but this is not a problem either unless you are very fussy about seeing a few skips and a lorry or two! If they make any noise, it's after 8am in the morning and only on weekdays, and only for 10 mins or less at a time.
Please note - clean and tidy, responsible grown-ups preferred, who are sympathetic to toddlers! We are particularly open to single people who want to stay longer than a week, but get in touch whatever you are looking for!.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Sitting room (within reason)
utility room (with washing machine)
Interaction with Guests
We are around all the time and can interract as much or as little as you like! We generally eat early in the evenings though before the toddler goes to sleep, so we would be unlikely to be eating dinner with you in the evenings. We would expect that you would be out for much of the day, on weekdays.
The community feeling, the houses, the park, the convenient transport, the amenities and shops.
We can go easily in any direction from this location. Buses and trains and tubes take you to all sorts of interesting places within 5 to 25 minutes! Or you can walk - for example, along the canal to Camden, or down the hill to Portobello Road.
It's only 30 seconds from our house to the Overground train (Kensal Rise) which gets you to East London in 25 minutes, and to Richmond and Kew Gardens in 20 mins, Camden and Hampstead in 12 minutes, Shepherd's Bush Westfields shopping centre in 10 mins; and the Bakerloo line tube (Kensal Green) nearby is also very convenient (20 mins to Oxford Circus, 15 mins to Euston) . You can get lots of buses to useful places - Notting Hill is 15 mins away, kensington, Sloan Sq, etc.
If you have a car, it is possible to pay for a permit (either around £1.50 a day) and we're extremely convenient for motorways ( M1, A40/M40, and M4, and north circular) or there are carclubs you can sign up to.
Other Things to Note
If you are staying more than a day or two, it would probably be better for you to buy your own breakfast ingredients but you are welcome to borrow larger and costlier items that you wouldn't finish during your stay - eg Marmite!
Laundry (sheets and towels ) washed for you for short term stays, but would be great if you strip the beds when you want them washed
Please wash up after yourself in the kitchen and don't leave stuff in sink. there is a dishwasher. Also, wipe surfaces.
Use burglar alarm.
Lock your windows and all doors if you are not at home.
Petica and her husband were such nice and welcoming hosts. They live in a very beautiful and lovely area of London with their cute little son. My room with an absolutely great view over a little garden was very comfortable and clean as well as the rest of this marvellous house.
I can recommend this accommodation in every way!
I had a completely fantastic stay with Petica, Will, and Billie - they could not have been kinder or more hospitable, and both the room and their house were totally lovely and incredibly comfortable! The location was absolutely ideal given where I needed to go in London. I'm very grateful to them for their generosity and efforts to make my experience a wonderful one!
The house is in a great location, a stones throw from Kensal Rise overground station, a small supermarket and Chamberlayne Road with lots of great cafes, bars and restaurants The room is beautiful. Very comfortable bed, lovely view of the garden and ample wardrobe space. I felt really at home here. The room is at the back and overlooks a really lovely small garden so I enjoyed a real sense of peace. Everything else equally good - bathroom clean and practically yours for sole use. I didn't cook much but ample cupboard and fridge space was made available. Petica and Will are lovely hosts, very easy to talk to and willing to help in any way.
Petica, Will and little Billy form a really, really nice family. it's difficult to imagine how I could have felt more at home and more warmly welcome. It was a wonderful stay, in a very pleasant house and surprisingly convenient location, and I would go back anytime. My only reservation concerns the bed, which is ok but not very exciting - it would definitely be very small for two people - but then I stayed one month, which is long. All the rest gets top grades! The garden is a very pleasant summer addition. And Will's quiet sense of humour (Petica was usually busy with the baby) was a treat after my busy and exhausting days.
Petica's house makes your experience very special. The house is extremely charming, with an Asian touch and an incredible spirit as Petica.
As for the location and the environment, I found it perfect and convenient. Within 15-20 minutes you are in the heart of London.
I highly recommend Petica's house, as Petica herself who is an amazing hostesss and who will make your stay in London memorable!
