Spacious nicely furnished room with 2 separate sections and 2 beds (Queen & Full) with shared bathroom (excellent for 3-4 guests). It has a private garden entrance. The room is now equipped with a new compact fridge, mini electric stove cooker and a coffee brewing machine. Full kitchen is also available at all times. The Beautiful lanai makes observing sunsets over the ocean the spectacular event. Huge open space with almost 300 acres of raw Hawaiian land is right in front of the house.
The location is very special - the sacred Place of Refuge Park and Paleaku Gardens Peace Sanctuary are just about 5 minutes away. It is also near the most beautiful sites and wild dolphin bays on the west side of the Big Island (always sunny Kohala Coast, just south of Kailua-Kona): Kealakekua Bay, Honaunau Bay, Ho’Okena Beach Park, etc. The house is also conveniently located just several miles south of some great restaurants, cafes and grocery stores.
There is a shuttle bus that runs around the island just couple times a day, but it definitely would be a great idea for you to get your own vehicle. Before booking the car at a rental place, please check with me if we have a car available for you to rent for a time of your stay. That may save you some money - all national rental companies are quite expensive.
To summarize, we can offer you a peaceful and beautiful environment in a fun and happy atmosphere, Aloha spirit, hoping to help you experience one of the best places on Hawaiian Big Island in the most comfortable way possible and we’re sure you will LOVE it!
See you soon ;)
We really liked our stay at Will`s place. It`s a nice house in a beautiful area of Big Island. The view is amazing. Will shared lots of tips and information. Since our flight got delayed and we arrived late he even stayed awake to welcome us. There was not lots of room for four of us though, but it still was OK. We can highly recommend this place.
We enjoyed our stay! Will was nice and helpful in offering suggestions on where to eat and things to do. I really liked the location because we were near some cool spots to snorkel. It's a very scenic and quiet part of the island. If you want a party scene, my suggestion is to stay in the town of Kona. If not, this place is perfect and all for a reasonable price too.
We had a excellent time staying at Will's house. The room is very nice, clean and enjoying fantastic ocean views from the mountains. It's conveniently located, avoiding the rush of Kailua-Kona yet close to both Ka'u and the Kona coast district. It is inside a very large beautiful house, and we enjoyed watching sunset in the terrace. Will is a great guy, fun and interesting to talk to, but he also respected our privacy at all times. I recommend the experience!
Let's get two things straight : the views from this house are as stunning as the pictures show and Will is a nice guy. Unfortunately though, the house isn't even close to what we expected. When we got there, the smell of cat urine was all over the entrance. There is a cat staying there and no one knows where it came from but it is being fed, so are two dogs staying outside the house and one of 'em is on a leash 24/7. It seems to have been traumatized by it's ex-owner because whenever a male approaches it, it starts growling. Then you get inside and the first thing you find is a smelly basket of rotten fruit that no one throws away, even though flies are everywhere around it. The old carpet that covers the whole floor has that same urine smell, as if it had not been washed for years. The stains on it are also good witnesses of the lack of care that it has been given.
Some doors don't even close up front! Bugs and small animals can get in very easily and we found many spiders inside the house and quite big ones I must say. Thinking of watching the sunset drinking a mojito on the terrace? Forget it : the chairs are grimy and there are tens of ants all over the floor. I would be too afraid to fall asleep and wake up with all these red ants on my body.
We thought we were gonna use the kitchen and save money from eating at restaurants...wrong! Everything was incredibly dirty : the cabinets, the sink, the counter. Obviously, no one is cleaning that house, neither the owner (Will) or the long-term tenant.
We then went to our room : it seemed fine at first glance but we found many larvae on the ceiling and on the floor. At that point, we were scared that we would catch bed bugs and infest our baggage. The sheets were clean but the room was full of bugs of different kinds.
The worst part came when we got in the bathroom. First, the strong smell of fongus invades your nose and there are plenty of ants on the floor, in the bath tub and on the counter. It was just horrible. That tub has obvisouly never been cleaned and everything seems out of date.
All in all, it troubles me to think that humans in the US can live like this in 2013 and dare rent a room in this dump. Will has only been there for a couple of months but he obviously doesn't clean the place. That house seems to have been built without a plan and it is definitely falling apart. I'm not exaggerating : I traveled in remote places in Asia and I have never seen anything this putrid. Don't be fooled by the pictures. Do not go there. I hope Airbnb pulls this place away from its site.
Best hilarious review ever. Thank you!
The horror story, with lyrical flavor, kindly shared here with us by Phil is really scary and entertaining, like a small version of Jurassic Park. Can’t wait for the second chapter to come out! ))
Well, what can I say to my dearest guest Phil, since he is the only one that felt so unbearably hurt and unsatisfied – “Sorry for the inconvenience and not meeting your expectations, sorry for such unpleasant experience while staying in our “falling apart”, “never cleaned”, “dump” and “putrid” house, the bad mood and all other troubles in your life!”
To everyone else who is reading this I want to say the following:
Before I came to Hawaii I had a very different lifestyle, living in a small Manhattan apartment that had never seen any ants, bugs, spiders or other monster creatures sharing a space with its tenants. Unfortunately, the city life is full of much more horrifying things surrounding people in their everyday life. Hawaiian land is a totally different world. If you are here to experience the moment, the nature, the spirit, you should take things as they are, more maturely and accepting some change in the environment.
The house I live in was built, I think, about 30-35 years ago. The place is just beautiful. Yes, it is surrounded by lots of trees and bushes, and of course, there are some insects living in a close proximity to the house. Ants, for example, don’t eat humans here, they don’t even bite; they only search for water and in spite of all the efforts to keep them away from the bathroom, they mysteriously sometimes find their way in. Obviously, our unhappy camper just happened to unwillingly become a witness of such perfidious invasion.
I share the house with two housemates that have their own life, priorities and schedule. Frankly speaking, we all do everything we can to make our guest’s stay at our place, which is very special, as much comfortable and enjoyable as possible. With that said, I don’t find it necessary to even comment on all other terrifying things that Phil described in his highly intelligent review including the unprecedented and very optimistic ending...
Friends, please feel free to contact me and ask me any questions regarding the room, house or anything else you might be concerned about before you decide to book!
cozy room, gorgeous views, and Will was an exceptional host. He even went out of his way to send us things that we'd left behind and didn't ask for compensation for his time and effort. would love to stay longer next time. this is a beautiful part of Hawaii.
Will was a great host. He was very friendly, gave us advise as to where to go and what to do. The room was very comfortable and clean. Will was easy to talk to and just a nice guy.
