The space
Fundo Arawishka is about four hectares; on a small scale we grow coffee, pitahaya (dragon fruit), banana and about a hectare of lawn.
There are three fully equipped apartments all with independent entrances , a two bedroomed upper one with 65m2 (Arawishka A) and then two apartments (Arawishka B & C) of about 30m2 each on the ground floor with one bedroom each.
All apartments have a kitchen and living cum dining room and are fully furnished and very well equipped. We leave you with the ingredients for your first breakfast so that you get off to a good start.
The local market in Pedro Ruiz is 5km from here and has a good stock of locally grown fruit and vegetables and practises social distancing effectively.
The climate is kind all year round, we don’t need heating or air-conditioning, and neither do we need mosquito netting, although there are a few moths that come to visit.
You get a set of keys, so you can come and go as you like. There is plenty of covered parking.
There is a minimum stay of 4 days so that our guests can appreciate their surroundings. Many guests stay here for a month or more.
The Airbnb enhanced cleaning protocol has been carefully implemented.
Arawishka isn’t for your average tourist.
“Kuelap, Gocta, Karajila, etc. in three days” go to Chachapoyas
You have the independence
We have the space.
Come for as long as you need.

Guest access
We have carefully planned the services; rarely have problems with water, gas and electricity (with a standby generator if necessary). The internet is beamed in from 20 kms away which works most of the time, and more or less reasonable mobile phone coverage.
Otherwise if you’re not plugged into the internet, you can wander along the kilometre of paths around the Fundo, help sort the coffee, mow the lawn or just watch the bird life.
There is a “Palapa” in front of the flats that can be used for barbeques or just hanging out or entertaining visitors.
Attached to the apartments we have a washing machine and clothes lines

Other things to note
For those who are curious “Arawishka” is the local name of a beautiful tree which we have in the middle of the “Fundo” Cojoba Arboreo for those Latin lovers.
Weather, what with climate change and being in the mountains, it is a bit unpredictable. But taking the average over the last 5 years the wet season is March to May and again September and October. Though no promises.
Temperature, June to November min 15C and max 32C the rest of the year between 18C and 30C.
If you wanted an extended stay and for lack of availability the internet won’t let you, book a shorter stay, and we can look for a solution later.

Location

Provincia de Bongará, Amazonas, Peru

Fundo Arawishka is nestled at 1,500meters up in the Northern Andes in a hamlet of about 60 souls, called Chaquil, at kilometre 300 on the main road from the coast to the jungle. The scenery around here is spectacular as is the tourism.
Due to the present varying states of emergency, some of the places in the following list have restrictions and need to be checked on the internet for their availability.
We are only about 15 minutes from Pedro Ruiz by Moto taxi ($1.50), probably the most comfortable way for “doing” tourism is renting a taxi by the half or whole day ($75).
Just a quick checklist, starting from the nearest:
Sulphur pool in Chaquil
Marvelous Spatuletail hummingbird sanctuary at Huembo
Yumbilla waterfall (4 tiers 895m high) at Porvenir, also at Tingo or Yumbilla we can fix you up with a day of canyoning, there are also other waterfalls nearby, the most remarkable being: Pabellón (400m high) and Chinata (580m high)
The lake at Pomacochas
Sarcophagus El Tigre at San Jeronimo
Gocta waterfall (2 tier 771m high)
Lamud with more sarcophagus and Quiocta cave
Chachapoyas and the Sonche canyon
The mountaintop ruins of the fortress of Kuelap with its new cable car
Bird sanctuary at Abra Patricia Owlet Lodge
Leymebamba and the museum of the mummies from The Condor Lake, etc. etc. etc.
A naturalist’s paradise, we have had specialists in birds and plant life passing through, last count was 78 different species of birds.
Trekking tours and canyoning can be organized upon request.
There are some walks that take from 2 to 6 hours locally.
For the family, there are three swimming pools in Pedro Ruiz, water rafting on the Utcubamba, Discotheques in Pedro.
Culinary delights, apart from what you get up to with the local ingredients in your kitchen. Especially useful for Vegetarians and Vegans who are fed up with eating the same “vegetarian” menu in the local restaurants.
Sunday is local market day in Pedro Ruiz.
Pedro Ruiz is not renowned for its restaurants but it’s cheap and not bad, there are places we can sort of recommend. Chachapoyas has a good selection and variety.

We love to interact with the guests, (taking into account social distancing) so that they make the best of their time here and will show you around the “Fundo”, so you can take full advantage of what we have here.
We want you to be independent, but if you need any help with tourism, groceries, health problems etc. we will do our best, as we live next door and if we are not there, we have a caretaker who lives at the entrance.
When available we share with you any coffee, bananas, pitahaya, passion fruit and avocados from the “Fundo”.
