Please note: one private bath is located on the 2nd flr. & the other on the 1st).
Although we are now closed for the winter, we reopen in late May. The Twin Spruce room (2nd flr.) in this rustic retreat has a private bath and a guest laundry (one of the baths is on the 1st flr). There's a private balcony with a fantastic 180 view of the Mt. Sneffels Range and Dallas Divide, and you have exclusive use of the living room with its stellar views of the San Juans! Please be aware that we have two listings: The True Grit Mtn. Retreat-Mexican Queen is our other one.
You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: for more things to do.
Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and the Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Did you know Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are hand-crafted right here in town, and you can tour the workshop! Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.
Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!

Interaction with guests
We love to interact with our guests, but always let them set the pace. We are always willing to offer advice on places to dine or visit. Our private quarters are located in a separate wing of the house, so the primary interaction is in the kitchen.
We live in a very quiet neighborhood of lovely homes on 2 1/2 acres each. The 35 acre ranch on our west side has horses and cows, plus several neighbors have horses as well. The only sounds you will hear are the cows lowing & the Mtn. Jays chattering:). The views of the mountains are unparalleled from every angle. Deer are ever present early in the morning or early evening. In the all it isn't uncommon to see elk grazing nearby.
No public transport.

Our baked goods are all home-made, plus we offer fresh seasonal fruit, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, juice & coffee or tea. We try to serve mainly organic food from our local Farmers Market & also from our own garden.

My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
