About This Listing
A large sunny room with amazing mountain views and its own private balcony. Come see why our guests rave about our views, especially at night from our hot tub. Full gourmet breakfast included!
The bluebirds are mating and we are waiting--for you! Our mountains may be snowcapped, but the grass is green and trees are in bud. It's spring in the San Juans! The Twin Spruce room (2nd flr.) in this rustic retreat has a private bath and a guest laundry. There's a private balcony with a fantastic 180 view of the Mt. Sneffels Range and Dallas Divide, and you have exclusive use of the living room with its stellar views of the San Juans! Please be aware that we have two listings: The True Grit Rustic Mtn. Retreat-Mexican Queen is our other one.
You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: (website hidden) for more things to do.
Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and the Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Did you know Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are hand-crafted right here in town, and you can tour the workshop! Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.
Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!
First flr. living and dining rooms, plus limited kitchen privileges (please see House Rules below). Private bath. We encourage our guests to make full use of our decks and the hot tub in the summer months.
Interaction with Guests
We love to interact with our guests, but always let them set the pace. We are always willing to offer advice on places to dine or visit.
We live in a very quiet neighborhood of lovely homes on 2 1/2 acres each. The 35 acre ranch on our west side has horses and cows, plus several neighbors have horses as well. The only sounds you will hear are the cows lowing & the Mtn. Jays chattering:). There is a 35 acre parcel across our road, which is ideal for x-country skiing or snowshoeing. The views of the mountains are unparalleled from every angle.
No public transport.

The listing was very accurate and this is a lovely room in a very nice house. The breakfast was excellent, Lysa had the coffee set up (I am an early riser) and Gini and I enjoyed talking to Lysa. It is on a large lot with a herd of deer visiting in the evening although they probably were not "invited". Looking out our bedroom window at the snow covered mountains was a bonus.
We were welcomed in the driveway before we even got out of the car and it only got better from there. Don and Lysa are happy, friendly, interesting, and congenial hosts. We loved their accommodations and it fit our traveling needs just perfectly. We enjoyed each other's company, but we also had our own down time when we needed it. We'd go back, for sure!
great host, very kind , respectful and friendly
they were also very accomodating on my late night arrival
the house is beautiful and they make a great breakfast
We had a wonderful time staying with Lysa. Her home is gorgeous and was very clean and tidy. The breakfast was terrific and you can't beat the hot tub under the stars. Our only regret was that we only had 2 days to enjoy.
The True Grit Rustic Retreat with Lysa and Don was my first airbnb experience and I have been spoiled! They are so great - they make you breakfast, have a GREAT dog, provide local what-to-do literature, wireless password and a very clean, nice and welcoming home. The views and hot tub are super too. Thank you Lysa!
Lysa is seriously the kindest, most caring and nurturing individual! Her home is lovely, and she does everything she possibly can to make her guests feel welcome. Her comfort is your top priority. In addition, she's just a wonderfully interesting and generous person, and I'm very glad I met her. The neighborhood is so peaceful and beautiful, and the surrounding countryside is spectacular. The amenities provided are every bit as nice as the kind of B&B you'd find anywhere, if not nicer. I would highly recommend staying there.

About the Host, Elizabeth (Lysa) And Don
My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
Beautiful walking, prayer, and contemplation space along the river. Picnic space on river and hiking trail to the top of Eagle Hill.
A lovely modern space with a great book collection, plus a collection of ranch memorabilia in a special corner donated by Ralph Lauren.
A locals favorite for breakfast & lunch. Organic, sustainable cuisine and super wait persons.
Best casual fine dining in town, plus a high end sports bar in a separate room with numerous big screen TVs. Cuisine is top-drawer and service is also.
Terrific place for award-winning craft brews, popular locals hang-out, and artisan pizza.
Great spot to see a lot of True Grit movie scenes, plus many other Westerns. Always good food served in a very rustic venue.
If you forgot a fleece or some other gear you probably will find it in this second hand store, and your dollars go to the shelter for lost or abandoned animals.
Authentic, fresh Costa Rican food. Very reasonable.
Best place in town for coffee, books, magazines, snacks & just relaxing.
Visit the Visitors Center for all kinds of info on our area. Loads of brochures, maps & guides, all free!
Good Mexican food in a very authentic Spanish adobe building. Great service & margaritas!
