True Grit Rustic Retreat-Spruce Rm.

House - Private room · Meadows Circle, Ridgway, CO 81432, United States

A large sunny room with amazing mountain views and its own private balcony.

The Space

The trees are budding out and summer isn't far off! The Twin Spruce room in this rustic retreat has a private bath and a separate guest laundry on the 2nd flr. There's a private balcony with a fantastic 180 view of the Mt. Sneffels Range and Dallas Divide, and you have exclusive use of the living room with its stellar views of the San Juans!

You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: (website hidden) for more things to do.

Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and the Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Did you know Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are hand-crafted right here in town, and you can tour the workshop! Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.

Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!

  • Lysa and Don are a treat and their dog, Tristan, is just wonderful. I couldn't have asked for better hosts and let me just say, that is only the beginning. Their home is beautiful and the views are absolutely stunning! Lysa makes wonderful breakfasts and even though I would typically be out the door before she had the chance to do so, when I was able to have the full breakfast it was a real treat. Even getting out the door before they woke up, she had the coffee pot ready to go and yogurt and fruit awaiting me. Such a wonderful AirBNB experience has really spoiled me and sets the bar very high for anything to follow. I can't recommend them, their home, and this area enough. I'd love to go back and they ran a real risk of me never leaving! :)

Melinda, you're a card, and we hope you come back soon:)

  • First let me start by saying the house and views are every bit as awesome as they look in the pictures. I LOVED this town, this home and the hosts! It was peaceful, breathtakingly beautiful, welcoming and just downright comfortable. It's a true place of healing and recharging of your spirit and soul. I stayed in the twin bedroom which has an amazing view and its own little balcony. The twin bed was so incredibly comfortable that I would reserve that room again just to sleep in the twin bed again. I slept with the sliding door and window wide open. The sounds are so relaxing. I could hear the wind, the little creek and cattle in the fields. I could also lie in bed and see the stars twinkling outside and yes they do twinkle. Tons of them do! Ridgway is so cute and small and stakes it's claim to the original True Grit movie and the home of the Grammy Award. There is some cool history to be sure. Ouray is just down the road 10 miles and is such a cute town. You have Telluride only 45 minutes around the mountain (an easy ride) and if you are coming from the Durango area then get ready for an overwhelming and probably the most gorgeous drive of your life over the Million Dollar Hwy. Lysa and Don are so warm and easy to be around and I became fast friends with both of them. They are super knowledgeable and well traveled through out Colorado and the western states. Lysa makes a fabulous breakfast every morning. One of the highlights of my day for sure. I enjoyed myself so much that I extended my stay by two days and barely left the house or town. I will be back! Most importantly I must mention their sweet pup Tristan. I swear he never left my side the whole time I was there. We became fast friends. I mean, how couldn't you when he gives you so much loyalty and love.

  • We had wonderful time with Lysa and Don.

  • Lysa and Don went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. The house is located in a perfect spot for east access to biking, hiking, and to get into town. The room was clean and inviting, breakfast was delicious, and both Don and Lysa helped us find locations to enjoy our stay in Ridgway. I highly recommend staying here, the house and the hosts are wonderful.

  • From the moment you enter Lysa and Don's picturesque home, it becomes clear that you're not merely renting a room - you are being welcomed into this lovely couple's own Bed & Breakfast.

Lysa will be sure to note your breakfast preferences and create a morning meal "to die for" that will prepare you for tackling the basket of brochures they've thoughtfully gathered for your perusal.

Feel free to take advantage of the multitude of exciting adventures awaiting you in the Ridgway/Ouray area, or indulge in the more hedonistic pleasures of vacationing such as coffee and reading on the patio, or stargazing in the hot tub with a bottle of wine. Lysa and Don will do their best to encourage your adventures while offering fantastic company or quiet solace in your downtime at home.

The house itself is located in a gorgeous meadow with lovely views of the mountains outside every screened-in window. One could get lost simply sitting in their (or should I say your own) living room, watching the clouds glide over the plains.

On a personal note, I feel as though my time spent with Lysa and Don was reminiscent of days before modernity when strangers were met with hospitality by those able to offer it. Not only will I take with me memories that will last my lifetime, but I've returned with a renewed optimism concerning community and the benevolence of strangers.

My only concern is that these two have spoiled me too much!

Drew, you really are a poet & an excellent writer. Please come again & just hang out. Your and Verene's spirit brings peace to our home.

  • When you step into Lysa and Don's home you know you have entered a level of nirvana. Everything about our stay was perfect.Their home has an amazing view of the Cimarron Range that was a gift to wake up to each morning. Lysa and Don were very helpful with hiking recommendations. Lysa made the most delicious breakfasts! They both made us feel completely at home and graciously gave us access to their kitchen. We felt welcome with the first email contact with Lysa. True Grit is a true gem - a 10 out of 10 ... I cannot recommend them highly enough!

  • Beautiful home in a glorious setting. Lysa and Don were extremely warm and welcoming. Sorry our schedule allowed only one night's stay.

  • Congratulations: it seems like you came across Lysa & Don listing! It is a Jackpot, so just book it!
Seriously, the only unpleasant thing which can happen to you is that they would not have a room available.
It is a true retreat and it can beat any ***** Hotel (believe me, I stayed at Columbia in Telluride and at Sainte Claire in San Jose, the latter is only **** though, as well as at many others which are not worth mentioning). Lysa's breakfast is a dream, as is the whole house. We were in the twin room and it was extremely comfortable. The room features even a small balcony, of course with a breath-taking view, though such views are just everywhere in and around the house. The bathroom is luxurious.
We loved everything here, including our adorable hosts and their sweat dog Tristan. My only concern when writing this review is that it is so good that the place gets overbooked and we will not be able to come again:)
Lysa, Don, we are very grateful that we had a chance to meet you and to stay at your house!

My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
