Other Things to Note
The Crete Senesi refers to an area of the Italian region of Tuscany to the south of Siena. It consists of a range of hills and woods among villages and includes the comuni of Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme and San Giovanni d'Asso, all within the province of Siena.
Crete senesi are literally ‘Senese clays’, and the distinctive grey colouration of the soil gives the landscape an appearance often described as lunar. This characteristic clay, known as mattaione, represents the sediments of the Pliocene sea which covered the area between 2.5 and 4.5 million years ago. Nearby is also the semi-arid area known as the Accona Desert.
Perhaps the most notable edifice of this area is the monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
The region is known for its production of white truffles, and hosts a festival and a museum dedicated to the rare fungus (genus Tuber).

la casa estaba muy bien equipada, más que nada en lo que respecta a la cocina
nos sentimos como en casa
Michele has a has a clean, well maintained, beautiful place that was extremely comfortable for my wife and I and our 2 children. Michele was so helpful with recommendations and directions for restaurants and places to visit. He welcomed us with wine and snacks. It was the perfect place to stay for our Tuscany visit. I would strongly recommend staying with Michele if you're visiting the Tuscany area.
Our stay at Le Splandole was perfect in every way. Michele was a generous and thoughtful host, sending driving directions in advance, along with very helpful recommendations, and he even welcomed us the night we arrived. I cannot thank Michele enough for his hospitality, and I will recommend Le Splandole to anyone looking for a quiet home-base in Tuscany.
This was our very first AIR BNB experience and our breath was simply taken away as we drive up the road (thinking this cannot possibly be it!!!) but to our surprise it was and how we enjoyed it .. We were so welcomed by Michele as everyone else has mentioned he provides any information you need to make your stay a memorable one - the views from each window are something you'd see in a beautiful movie ! Thank you Michele we loved the villa
I have to say my great experience started from the time I've booked our stay at Le Splandole. Michele was very nice and made an inquiry about our plans. Usually I ask the owners myself and get some recommendations back. But Michele is not an ordinary host, he sent me very details directions, descriptions, recommendations for places, restaurants, grocery stores, local markets even before I've got a chance to ask. We tried so many delicious things from "Consorzio Agrario" in Siena, enjoyed great time in thermal pools, visited beautiful places and tasted local wine. Not to mention the apartment made us feel like home, it is beautifully decorated and filled with so many interesting books. From our 15 days journey around Italy I can with no doubt say this was the place all four of us enjoyed the most. It was a pleasure to be Michele's guest!
The house, environment and hospitality of Michele was great! We really enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to everyone who is looking for a relaxed stay to explore the Toscana region.
We stayed with 2 small kids and the house was perfect and comfortable and cosy.
Michele was very helpful and caring.
