Room in peaceful vegan flat

Apartment - Private room · Humberstone Avenue, Manchester, M15 5EE, United Kingdom

An artist-owned green oasis with good connections & parking just fifteen minutes from the city centre. A warm, quiet and comfortable flat that looks out onto trees and blends quirky old furniture with a minimalist design ethic. Good (vegan) food, home comforts & coffee always a priority here.

The Space

A calm oasis owned by a musician & just minutes away from the bustling city. Sleep in a comfortable bed and enjoy waking up to birdsong and good coffee on the small balcony. Read, eat, rest, explore, make yourself at home.

NB: Please read note at end before sending a request!

You'll be staying on the top (second) floor of a low-rise, late 1940s block containing just three flats. The flats were originally council flats but were taken over by a 'social landlord' a few years ago. Since then, the kitchens and bathrooms have been replaced, double glazing and a new heating system has been installed in all of the flats. I have also put in laminate flooring & the flat's decorated in pale colours / white.

The flat has two bedrooms, a small kitchen, bathroom, an office / third bedroom and a large and sunlit living room. Due to the fact it's from the 1940s, the flats have a slightly deco feel to them and if you look out along the road from the balcony you'll see that they're set at a gentle curve.

The windows are big & light comes into the bedrooms in the morning and onto the 'living space' and balcony in the afternoon. If you're lucky enough to be here when the sun is shining, at around 3pm the living room is flooded with light!

Remember though, this is Manchester...

The bath is small but there is plentiful scalding-hot water, bubble bath and fresh towels! ; )

The guest room has a comfortable Natural Bed Company wooden bed frame with memory foam mattress & pillows. There is a locker, a beautiful old chest of drawers & an old school desk. Hooks for coats are behind the door.

Outside, you'll see that there are many green spaces in the immediate vicinity: it's fun to watch the squirrels leaping from tree to tree and there is a community garden two streets down and a community garden centre two minutes' walk away. Should you need to stretch your legs, Hulme park is a hop, skip and jump from here and the Manchester Aquatics Centre and Moss Side Leisure Centre are both within easy walking distance.

You'll find the nearest supermarket, a huge Asda, at 8-10 minutes' walk away and you'll be a minute or so from a small row of shops including a post office, takeaway, chemist and grocery stores. There's a health food shop & vegetarian cafe about 12-15 mins away on Oxford Road (On the 8th Day) and you'll find a wonderful vegan, sugar-free grocery store called Unicorn in Chorlton, about 10 minutes away by car.

For more up-market vegetarian eating I highly recommend visiting Bistro 1847 (2: in Manchester and in Chorlton). For more basic Indian home-cooking, try the Yadgar in the hip Northern Quarter rather than chancing Rusholme, Manchester's 'curry mile'...and if you're after gluten free pizza, Dough in Northern Quarter is excellent. V Revolution on Oldham Street sells vegan junk food and punk records...and for a real treat, there's a sit-in chocolatier called Bon Bon near Manchester Craft Centre that sells exquisite hot chocolate etc.

Whilst you're here, you will probably want to visit museums and buildings around the town: Might I recommend the following:

Castlefield Canal Basin (huge columns, mazes of bridges & canal boats. The pubs can be a bit busy if the sun's out but it's actually a nice place for a stroll at night when all the city lights reflect in the canals.

Museum of Science and Technology (clacking machines and a hall full of old aeroplanes)

John Rylands Library / Portico Library

There are several art galleries in the city, a regular museum and numerous places to see theatre and entertainment of all descriptions...Areas of town to discover include the gay village (Canal Street), Chinatown and the Northern Quarter. From the flat it would take you around 15 minutes to walk into the centre of town. Manchester's a very flat city if you're a cyclist, and you're around 12 minutes' walk from the nearest train station, Oxford Road, where you can get trains to pretty much anywhere including Liverpool and the nearby Manchester airport...The flat is just off the Princess Parkway (5103) and the M602 so very convenient for car drivers too...

Manchester, like any big city, has its fair share of crime, but having lived most of my life here I have to say it's not too bad. The flat is in an area that I consider to be pretty safe and the people that live here tend to be pretty mellow, left-wing & down to earth. There is free street parking - (take out valuables and leave your glove box open to show that it's empty as you would in any big city!..)

I can't promise you a hotel, but I can promise you that you'll be made to feel very welcome! I've done my best to make the room as nice as I can make it & tried to think of everything to make for a comfortable stay. Having been a touring musician for over a decade & a host for many years on other networks, I believe I know a thing or two about home comforts..but if there's anything you need, do please ask, and if I can help, I will.

Unfortunately, as it's on the second floor, without a lift, the flat isn't suitable for people with mobility difficulties. In general I'd prefer to host quiet people, couples and women - up to two guests as there is only one bathroom/toilet!.. Vegetarian and vegan guests and fellow musicians and artists of all kinds are, of course, very welcome!...but whoever you are & whatever you do I hope to make you feel at home!

One last thing: I'm unable to accept reservations very far in advance as I'd much prefer to be here to welcome you & often don't know my plans ahead of time. Sorry if this is inconvenient! The upside is that I'm usually happy to welcome guests who are 'caught short' or need a place at short notice!

Try me & I'll see what I can do to accommodate you.

Interaction with Guests

I'm happy to interact with guests if that's what you'd like and if I'm not too busy working when you're around. I'll generally make some kind of breakfast to share & am happy to give you some ideas for places to visit / eat etc.

Other Things to Note

IMPORTANT: Please note! I am unable to accept booking requests any more than a couple of weeks in advance due to the nature of my touring work & commitments. I need to be there to let you in & also to ensure high standards are kept up! ; ) if you'd like to stay, please do get in touch but be aware that I can't give you a yes very far in advance! I really want to make sure your stay is a happy one!

  • Kirsty was my first AirBnB host. And she had exceeded all my expectations and needs. Just what you need after your house has had a leak and you and your partner need somewhere to stay for the night. Here place was warm, full of great energy and easy to get too. I have certainly made a new friend. And would highly recommend this lovely flat. Clean, hospitable, friendly, great value and really fun. Had a great night sleep too as the bedroom was calm and relaxed and well stocked. Also got a hot water bottle! Overall experience 9/10.

In my "turbulent" trip to manchester kirsty was an esencial piece to make my way right, at all! She took care of me and my boyfriend, who unfortunately became sick, almost, all the trip. She was really warm with two both.

She show us practically all the city and took care to explain us all typical place to be and some of we tell her to recomende it to us, at all.

Room was perfect, and perfectly fully. she lives in a cozy, clean and confortable flat really near to city center (just 10 min walking, maybe less, i think). And there is a train station just 2 min walking from the flat! I think, it is a perfect place to stay, and if you go to visit the city for a short time it is an ideal site. Quite place with good connections with all the principal places to visit in.

For sure, if i go back to Manchester i will rest in your home again.
Thank you so much : )

  • Kirsty is an absolutely fantastic host who goes above and beyond to look after her guests. The room is lovely and just like the photos. Kirsty's whole flat is really calm and chilled with really stylish quirks.
Kirsty went out if her way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

  • My boyfriend and I were in Lancashire County for a good friend's wedding and we stayed one night at Kirsty's in Manchester on our way back to Munich. We wish we had more time because the flat was gorgeously remodelled, clean and cozy. Kirsty was warm, inviting, and out going. She even made us a little lunch thinking we would be hungry after our train journey! We would definitley stay again at Kirsty's and would recommend anyone to stay there too! It's great. We walked to and from her flat into the center with no problems. It is located in a cute residential community about 15 min from Manchester Oxford Rd Station. At the end of touring around Manchester we were exhausted and Kirsty greeted us with some fresh baked treats! It was amazing!
