The Space

This is a lovely large double room in a beautiful Georgian house in the James Joyce area of Dublin. Our house is part of the historic story of James Joyces book Ulysses and the building, Belvedere House was the original school in which Joyce would have once attended. The house has been fully modernised and mixes 19th Century architecture with a modern flair; beautifully furnished mixing old world with new. Your hosts, Amelia and Sam have a love of mixing the old creative styles with some contemporary pieces to make their home.

The apartment is in an area of Dublin City Centre above what's become the Asian district of the city, and you’ll be staying just a stones throw from the modern historical centre of the city with O'Connell Street's GPO, The Hugh Lane Gallery where the world famous Francis Bacon studio is replicated and 10 mins walk from Temple Bar, Dame Street and Georges Street, with Grafton Street less than 15 mins walk away. Airport buses stop very close at the end of the street.

Your room is a clean, bright, warm double room with sash windows and views over Dublin’s charming redbrick rooftops, with the Dublin Spire visible in the distance.

Popular tourist sites of Dublin Castle, Christchurch and St. Patrick’s Cathedral are less than 10 minutes walk away and Dublin sightseeing buses stop at the end of the adjoining street – less than 3mins away.

The house really couldn’t be more central, and is ideal for the food lover with wonderful restaurants, cafes and delis, including the famous Chapter One, Michelin Star restaurant only moments away. It’s at the heart of the shopping district with Irish design and clothing boutiques in the immediate vicinity. You can explore the city on foot with ease, or sign up for Dublin Bikes, which has a bike stand moments away – on O'Connell Street.

The house itself dates from the mid 1700's and has all original features including original fireplaces with wooden floors throughout.

  • Sam and Amelia are quite wonderful hosts! My mom and I had everything we needed and company and conversation as well! The apartment is beautiful and centrally located, we walked everywhere! I would stay with this lovely couple again and it couldn't be soon enough :)

  • We had a great time in Dublin and Sammy and Amelia's apartment made it even better. The room was nice and clean, the location is perfect as any points of interest are practically just around the corner. Sammy and Amelia themselves were super friendly and gave us great suggestions not only about things to do in Dublin but also for our further trip. We can highly recommend staying at their place when in Dublin.

  • Sam's apartment was very clean, cozy, and conveniently located close to city centre. He gave us a laundry lost of unique to-do's for the short time we were in Dublin. I would highly recommend Sam to any traveler.

  • The apartment was just like the photos, clean and cute. Sammy and his fiancé were nice. However the hospitality was very disappointing. We had to share a bathroom, which made things a bit difficult when we were getting ready in the mornings. The bathroom was also right outside our bedroom, so it was pretty loud when they were getting ready in the mornings. The 2 pillows on the bed were very thin and the bed was not very comfortable. Overall we were dissatisfied with our stay. A hotel would have been better for the price we paid.

    Response from Sammy:

Thanks for the comments Nathan. Unfortunately your comments are not just or realistic. The shared bathroom was something you knew about from the time of booking and has never been a problem for any of our guests before, some have commented on this point. As we explained when you arrived there was extra pillows and bed clothes in the wardrobe and in the hall closets in addition to the six already on the bed. The bed is a brand new mattress pocket sprung and has been commented one of the best nights sleep some of our guests have had. We pride ourselves in our hospitality and our reviews confirm this.

  • Sam and Amelia are friendly, open and helpful hosts. We received a very warm welcome on Saturday evening and for the whole period of our stay they were ready to offer their advice on how to find ourselves in Dublin.

The apartment is spacious and comfortable and has very interesting interior with designer's touch to it - as can be seen on the photos. We were provided with everything we needed during our stay to live on our own (we spent two weeks there).

The location is very convenient. There are plenty of pubs, shops (Tesco, Lidl) and restaurants - especially great for fans of asian cuisine. Thanks to staying in the city centre, we were able to make trips around Dublin both on foot and using public transportation without problem.

To sum up, we had a really great experience and have wonderful memories and we highly recommend staying with Amelia and Sam.

  • Sammy's place is very central. All major spots are in walking distance. Sammy and his girlfriend are great hosts, very friendly and outgoing. We had some nice chats and overall a very good time in Dublin. Thanks!

  • Me and my wife had a very good experience staying with Sam and Amelia. We
stayed during the St. Patrick's Day holiday and had a blast. They were very
accommodating, making themselves available if we had any questions about the
area. Though they share the apartment, they spent most of the holiday out
visiting friends and family so we had the whole place to ourselves. When Sam
and Amelia were around they were very friendly and made us feel like old
    friends.

  • This is a great apartment in a street full of beautifully restored houses. Sammy was not here for the weekend but made sure that we had a great stay anyway.
