Exceptional check-in experience

Recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
This homey retreat is perfect for for nature lovers exploring Acadia National Park.

The space
This guest apartment is the second floor of an extended New England Cape Cod house. Enjoy views from the windows of open fields and the mountains of Acadia National Park. There is a private entrance and off-street parking. You will find lots of extra detailing and an attractive, compact layout. Lithographs and prints of local scenes from Mount Desert Island are featured on the walls. A washer and dryer are adjacent to kitchen. The library includes classic fiction, mysteries, and nature books. Current tourist materials will help with planning your visit. The linen closet has all the sheets and towels you will need during your stay. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, flatware, cookware, and some basic condiments.

Note there is no television: the night sky provides evening entertainment.

Guest access
The guest suite is a self-contained two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and access to shared laundry. A screened “Guest Retreat” offers private, relaxed outdoor seating with views of Western Mountain. WiFi internet access is included.

Other things to note
This residence is gay friendly. Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island merchants do not particularly cater to queer tourists. However, there are some gay-owned businesses and welcoming congregations on the island. I offer my local knowledge to help gay visitors find their way.

Neighborhood highlights

Located in Seal Cove, Maine, at the Long Pond entrance to Acadia National Park. 'Ferncrest' is on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, near Pretty Marsh. It sits on the edge of a field overlooking Western Mountain. Two ponds are within walking distance. A short drive on unpaved roads brings you either to the ocean or the largest lake in Acadia National Park.

The bustle of Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. The islands, mountains, oceanfront, ponds, trails, motor roads, and carriage roads of Acadia National Park are the biggest attraction in the area. Some of that beauty is right out the door of this guest apartment; the rest is close by.

Nearby convenience stores are located in Bernard and Somesville; grocery and other shopping can be found in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor.

My work: Facilitator + Planner
Speaks English
I have been helping public and private landowners protect New England's special places since 1974. Positions with The Nature Conservancy, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and National Park Service support my facilitation and interpretive planning services for parks and conservation organizations. I purchased "Ferncrest" in 1984. The rural road and view of Acadia National Park are what drew me. I have been making it my own ever since.
