About this listing
Gorgeous simple wooden house with beautiful rice field views all the way to Mount Agung. 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and landscaped garden. Peaceful and calm but only 20 minutes walk from Ubud main road through the rice fields or 5 minutes by road.
For your next stay in Bali, why pay for a hotel when you can have an entire house with a gorgeous private garden and rice field views for cheaper?!
Our cozy wooden house in the rice fields has views on both sides, with an uninterrupted view to Mount Agung. You can get up early and watch the sunrise over the volcano and the mists in the rice fields from the balcony - magical!
There are 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed and mosquito nets, and 2 living areas, over 2 floors- ideal for up to 4 people with an additional travel cot for a child if required. There is an open-air (covered) kitchen, which is lovely for sitting in and enjoying your breakfast in the rice field breezes. The bathroom is located to the side of the main house across a covered corridor and has hot water and includes a bathtub and separate shower. The toilet is separate from the main bathroom.
We built this home for our own family and we want you to enjoy staying there as if it was your own home. We've included everything you may need during your stay in Ubud. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, fridge, toaster oven, rice cooker, plates, cutlery and cooking equipment. In the living room is a TV, dvd player and a selection of books and DVDs. We even have a washing machine so you don't need to worry about taking trips to the laundry.
The gazebo in our walled garden is perfect for relaxing in and there is ample parking space behind a lockable gate (we are located on a road with full car access, unlike many Ubud villas which can only be accessed by motorbike).
There is a lovely walk through the rice fields into Ubud which takes about half an hour. We're located about 2km away from the Yoga Barn so this is ideal if you're planning on taking some yoga classes while in Ubud. I can also supply a yoga mat on request and our upstairs living area is ideal for practicing at the house.
Just down the road is a lovely Indonesian restaurant (Sawah Indah) which is perfect for dinner if you don't feel like going into Ubud. We're also within a few minutes walk of Bale Udang and Janggar Ulam restaurants - search for them online to see how gorgeous they are and how yummy the food looks! If you just feel like a night in, many restaurants in Ubud deliver free of charge and we keep takeaway menus and a local mobile phone in the house for your use.
We provide bed linens and towels and the house will be stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, soap and bottled water before your arrival.
If you have young children, feel free to make use of the travel cot and mattress in the house. We can also supply toys and books on request.
Breakfast can be arranged for an additional cost and we can also organise cooking classes, airport pickup, day trips, motorbike hire and other transport. My husband Made is Balinese and grew up in Ubud and will be happy to show you around some amazing sights off the beaten tourist trail!
Wi-Fi internet is available - please ask for details.
We live just down the road so we're easy to get hold of if you have any problems. We also provide a mobile phone with local sim card so you can call us if you need anything.
We look forward to welcoming you into our home!

Interaction with Guests
We live very close to the house and normally pop over a couple of times during your stay to check everything is ok. However we appreciate many guests enjoy the privacy of the house so we'll generally leave you to it unless you have any problems.
We've also enjoyed drinks, dinner and days out with many of our guests in the past - we're keen to make new friends with those who want to!
If you need us for anything we're just a phone call away and we provide a phone with local sim so you can get in touch easily.
We have a housekeeper, Komang, who will come to clean the house between 10am and 12pm each day. As we understand some guests prefer to enjoy their privacy, please let me know if you would prefer her not to clean inside the house.
Our house is located in a small village on the outskirts of Ubud with lots of families and a community feel. We're blessed with beautiful rice field views but still very close to the centre of Ubud. As this is mainly a local area there are lots of great restaurants around with good local food at reasonable prices.
Getting around by motorbike is the easiest option in Ubud and we provide motorbike hire for 50k rp per day. It's also possible to catch a local bus "bemo" from the main road into town. Taxis (private cars) are easily available from asking at Sawah indah restaurant or on the main road.
Walking into Ubud is possible either via the rice fields (highly recommended) or the road (not so recommended!) - it takes about 30-40 minutes to walk in, depending on where you want to be. If you're planning to walk, I'd advise leaving either early morning or late afternoon as it can get very hot during the day.
We also provide a transport service to anywhere you need. Prices are in the house manual or ask me for a specific destination. We offer airport pickup for 350,000rp
The house has full car access and secure car parking.
Other Things to Note
Please think of our house as a rustic tropical countryside cottage - it's not a 5* luxury villa so if this is what you're looking for, this might not be the place for you. Most of our guests love the peace and quiet, simple lifestyle and closeness to nature.
The house is not completely sealed to allow the breeze to circulate. While this means it stays cool, it also sometimes allows rain to blow in during heavy storms. We have waterproofed as much as possible but the tradeoff for having a beautiful wooden house means that sometimes we have to deal with a couple of leaks in rainy season!
There are some new houses being built on the road leading up to the house at the back. This work is usually very quiet and does not interrupt the views to the front of the house. Unfortunately there is building everywhere in Ubud at the moment!
As we built this house as our family home, we expect our guests to treat it with respect as if it was their own. As we live in a quiet residential area and sound travels easily over the rice fields we ask that guests don't play loud music or have wild parties late at night!
Smoking only outside the house please. As the grass roofing material is highly flammable, no cigarettes, candles, incense or mosquito coils are permitted inside the house or on the balcony. The kitchen and gazebo are both lovely breezy places to sit if you wish to smoke. Please make sure cigarettes are extinguished in a suitable ashtray!
Lovey place, about 15-20 minute walk from central ubud. We loved our stay there and would recommend it. The view from the upstairs bedroom is amazing
Amazing experience in a beautiful little wood house with views of rice fields. Welcoming & helpful host. Friendly neighbors. Restaurant really close.
The first thing we noticed upon arrival was the beautiful and well-kept garden, such a nice entrance! Rachel welcomed us at the house and showed us around after which she was still in the area for a bit if we had any questions. The contact beforehand was also good with very quick replies and Rachel had arranged both transport and motorbikes for us. The view from the house, especially the balcony, is stunning and the location close to Ubud. We didn't walk but it was an easy drive.
The house itself is comfortable, clean and fully equipped. You can clearly hear someone walking on the upper floor when you're downstairs though, so maybe not the best choice if you're a very light sleeper and share with more than two. And you have to be a little bit patient for the warm water if you e.g. need to wash your (long) hair. None of this was really bothering us though.
We also did a day tour with Made which was great and easy to arrange. We had a bit of a miscommunication about a temple which I really wanted to see but confused with another one, but he solved this very kindly and in the end we were able to see everything we wanted without a problem.
All in all, a great stay for a good price which I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for a more local experience but with all 'western' amenities.
I stayed here for 3 nights with two of my good friends. The house was spacious and although two of us had to share a bed, we never felt cramped.
The house is very close to nature (cracks in walls, outdoor kitchen and bathroom) so if you aren't a nature person, I wouldn't stay here. It also isn't the best for those with accessibility issues because there are steps to get into the house and more steps to get back out to use the bathroom. The bathroom was really nice!! If you take too long of a shower the water pressure and heat go away, but aside from that the shower was amazing. I also really appreciated the washing machine!! Overall, a very lovely and clean home.
The view from the house was absolutely beautiful!!! It was a bit far from the center of town which isn't really a problem if you don't mind paying for cabs into town (not too expensive). We tried walking, but it's not a pleasant walk in the dark. There is a really good restaurant right down the street though which is nice.
Rachel and Made were really nice and welcomed us to the house upon our arrival. They got us settled nicely and always responded promptly to any questions or problems we had. Made is a tour guide, so he took us around for half a day for 400,000 rupiah. It was a nice tour and we had a great time seeing lots of things. Made is a fun guide! However, the next day he came into the garden and waited around for about an hour until we came out to tell him we didn't want another tour for our second day. His services felt sort of pushed on us. That was the only thing I really didn't like.
Aside from that we had a great stay!
I would definitely recommend it.
- Great place, good breakfast and laundry offered
- Owner offered to pick us up on the first day
Host said place was under construction the day before arrival and offered us a new place that was 5km away from the city. We later found it was only accessible to city by car. We also never met Rachel in person because she said she was sick. It felt like a bait-and-switch.
We were offered a tour with her husband, which turned out to be a ripoff. It was advertised as a tour, but actually a private driver. We still had to pay admission to sites, and no explanation was offered as we were just told to go in while he waited outside. We were taken to really expensive restaurant when we said we wanted cheap local food, each tourist site was rushed, and we were brought to a jewellery shop that consisted of 5min tour and 55min shopping... (Get a tour from someone else)
We asked for a 5minute ride and assumed it was free. Last minute the host's cousin charged us 100k rupiah. Before the last day we asked for a FREE ride to central ubud for the day after. The hosts cousin brings up a 50k fee for driving us. Would not recommend.
Hi Dognewei, I'm very sorry you were not completely happy with your stay and that I asked to change your accommodation last minute. As I explained, we had been doing repairs that ran over schedule despite the builders promising right up until the day before that they would be finished. I did tell you that the other house was 5km away and you agreed to this as it was almost half the price of the original house. I also provided free breakfast for your inconvenience. If you hadn't said you were completely happy with this, I would have helped to find you different accommodation. I was actually ill during your visit but knew that the family were right next to the house to take care of any problems you had and I spoke to you several times over the phone and you never said you were unhappy. As for the tour, I'll pass on your comments. Most people are very happy with Made's tours and tell us it was the highlight of their stay. he only takes people to shopping places if they say they are interested in going there and how long you stay in each place is up to you. I also apologise that Gede did not understand you had asked for free transport. this is not normally included but I would have been happy to arrange it for you if you had asked due to the last minute switch, just as I gave you free pickup. however I did give you a 900k refund (before airbnb fees) before you even checked in so this would have more than covered your additional transport costs.
We had a great stay at Rachel's place in Ubud. The house was just as advertised, and has a wonderful view of the rice paddies and Mount Agung. Rachel's husband, along with his friend Ari, acted as excellent local guides while we were there, and Ari even showed us around other parts of the island after we had departed Ubud. Wonder experience at a wonderful location. Would definitely stay here again.
