The Space

For your next stay in Bali, why pay for a hotel when you can have an entire house with a gorgeous private garden and rice field views for cheaper?!

Our cozy wooden house in the rice fields has views on both sides, with an uninterrupted view to Mount Agung. You can get up early and watch the sunrise over the volcano and the mists in the rice fields from the balcony - magical!

There are 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed and mosquito nets, and 2 living areas, over 2 floors- ideal for up to 4 people with an additional travel cot for a child if required. There is an open-air (covered) kitchen, which is lovely for sitting in and enjoying your breakfast in the rice field breezes. The bathroom is located to the side of the main house across a covered corridor and has hot water and includes a bathtub and separate shower. The toilet is separate from the main bathroom.

We built this home for our own family and we want you to enjoy staying there as if it was your own home. We've included everything you may need during your stay in Ubud. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, fridge, toaster oven, rice cooker, blender, plates, cutlery and cooking equipment. In the living room is a TV, dvd player and a selection of books and DVDs. We even have a washing machine so you don't need to worry about taking trips to the laundry.

The gazebo in our walled garden is perfect for relaxing in and there is ample parking space behind a lockable gate (we are located on a road with full car access, unlike many Ubud villas which can only be accessed by motorbike).

There is a lovely walk through the rice fields into Ubud which takes about half an hour. We're located about 1.5km away from the Yoga Barn so this is ideal if you're planning on taking some yoga classes while in Ubud. I can also supply a yoga mat on request and our upstairs living area is ideal for practicing at the house.

Just down the road is a lovely Indonesian restaurant (Sawah Indah) which is perfect for dinner if you don't feel like going into Ubud. We're also within a few minutes walk of Bale Udang and Janggar Ulam restaurants - search for them online to see how gorgeous they are and how yummy the food looks! If you just feel like a night in, many restaurants in Ubud deliver free of charge and we keep takeaway menus and a local mobile phone in the house for your use.

We provide bed linens and towels and the house will be stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, soap and bottled water before your arrival.

If you have young children, feel free to make use of the travel cot and mattress in the house. We can also supply toys and books on request.

Breakfast can be arranged for an additional cost and we can also organise cooking classes, airport pickup, day trips, motorbike hire and other transport. My husband Made is Balinese and grew up in Ubud and will be happy to show you around some amazing sights off the beaten tourist trail!

Wi-Fi internet is available - please ask for details.

We live just down the road so we're easy to get hold of if you have any problems. We also provide a mobile phone with local sim card so you can call us if you need anything.

We look forward to welcoming you into our home!

Interaction with Guests

We live very close to the house and normally pop over a couple of times during your stay to check everything is ok. However we appreciate many guests enjoy the privacy of the house so we'll generally leave you to it unless you have any problems.

We've also enjoyed drinks, dinner and days out with many of our guests in the past - we're keen to make new friends with those who want to!

If you need us for anything we're just a phone call away and we provide a phone with local sim so you can get in touch easily.

The Neighborhood

Our house is located in a small village on the outskirts of Ubud with lots of families and a community feel. We're blessed with beautiful rice field views but still very close to the centre of Ubud. As this is mainly a local area there are lots of great restaurants around with good local food at reasonable prices.

Getting around

Getting around by motorbike is the easiest option in Ubud and we provide motorbike hire for 50k rp per day. It's also possible to catch a local bus "bemo" from the main road into town. Taxis (private cars) are easily available from asking at Sawah indah restaurant or on the main road.

We also provide a transport service to anywhere you need. Prices are in the house manual or ask me for a specific destination. We offer airport pickup for 350,000rp

The house has full car access and secure car parking.

  • This was such an amazing place and Rachel and Made were lovely hosts! It is a completely self contained two-storey house (all to yourself - at such a cheap price). I would definitely stay here again as it was a very peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Amazing service - was not expecting this from Air BnB place! Rachel was so responsive and checked in via text to see if I needed anything regularly. One night (late) I asked for a refill on the gas that heats the kitchen stove and Rachel arranged someone to come and sort it out before I even got to reading her reply!! Also Rachel arranged a cleaner to come mid week (since I was staying over 7 days) to change the sheets and tidy the place up. I was so surprised and it really made my stay that bit more fantastic.

The house came with a washing machine so I managed to clean all my clothes before coming home which was so convenient. The kitchen area was more than sufficient, however I only cooked one night and once you buy all the ingredients for something you can actually eat cheaper (and better) simply going out. Do try the restaurant only 200m walk away (Sawah Indah) where I had the most amazing meal that I couldn't finish and beers for $10 AUD!!

The only things I would do differently is rent a motorbike (Made can arrange this) since walking into central Ubud in the heat for 40mins was not the cleverest of ideas!! Also make sure you take Made up on his offer of showing you around Bali - there is a really sweet travel guide to the area in the house that Rachel and Made have prepared so I have so many plans next time I come and stay!

  • Rachael's place is a quiet oasis of calm, perched amid the rice paddies yet only minutes from the centre of the action in town. With lovely Balinese restaurant metres from the front door, you probably won't use the simple outdoor kitchen, but it's all there. Would definitely recommend.

  • We Stayed four nights in Rachels house. The location is okay, after a 25. min walk trough the rice fields we arrived at the ubud palace. Nearby the house is a supermarket. Rachel was very flexible and very kind. We had a washingmachine, a (very) simple kitchen, and some usefull accessories provided by Rachel (e.g. a torch, a mobile phone for calling her and her husband and a booklet with all the points of interest around ubud and much more information)
The house was very clean and the beds are comfortable.
What you should be aware of, if you book a stay here: the location in the rice fields means, that it is pretty noisy at night and you will encounter some insects and ants! But for us that was no problem. And there is no Aircon at the house. But there are some fans and the house didn't heat up too much so it was surprisingly cool at night.
However we would stay in Ubud again and recommend Rachels house, because of the friendly atmosphere and the fair price!

  • This was my second time staying at Rachel and Made's home in Ubud. It was lovely once again, as expected.I had such a great time when I stayed here last year with my sister that I decided to stay here with my brother this year. The home is in a perfect location. It is in a quiet and secluded area in the rice fields, yet it is extremely close to the main strip in Ubud and all of the major temples are easily accessible by motorbike. Check out Sawah Indah or Bebek Tepi Sawah restaurants near the house (just one will do - as they are quite similar!). Enjoy your stay! I have already recommended this place to others.

  • Rachel her husband, Made, were fantastic hosts. Our stay felt very authentic, as the house is located away from the noise and business of downtown Ubud (but only a 15-20 minute walk away). The house was clean and had beautiful views of the rice fields. An added bonus was the binder of things to do (in addition to house rules/specifics), which was convenient for helping us plan for the two days we were there. Overall, great experience! The value for money is incredible... would definitely recommend!

  • We stayed at this wonderful bungalow for a few nights. The bungalow and the surroundings were everything we've hoped for and more! Waking up in the rice fields and having breakfast in the amazing garden is something we won't easily forget.

Rachel and her husband Made were extremely helpful. They provided us with lots of information and really made us feel at home. We were given a local cellphone to call them if we needed anything. Made also does trips around Bali and is by far the nicest driver we've had. His English is perfect and his enthousiasm about Bali was really appreciated.

Rachel and Made, thanks a lot for making our stay in Ubud one of the highlights of our trip to Indonesia! Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • The house is lovely - quite nice for three people. Rachel was very communicative and answered all our questions and also provided options for transport if we were interested.

  • The wooden house was perfect! Rachel greeted us and showed us around, and the house had everything we needed. The house is in an idyllic spot, the directions were spot on, and our three days were wonderful. The outdoor kitchen was a treat to cook in and the house is spacious and comfortable. Should I ever return to Bali, the wooden house and its amazing view is on my list!

    Response from Rachel:

Thanks Joanna and family! It was great to meet you and we're so glad you enjoyed staying at our house while in Ubud. Hope to see you in Bali again soon :)

  • We stayed at Rachel and Made's house for 2 nights. It was more than I expected because I didn't expect to get an entire home to ourselves! It was located right on the rice fields and was beautiful!

They had an amazing well-kept garden, laundry, television and 2 huge sized beds!

They arranged airport pick up for us and Made also offered to take us out on day trips for reasonable prices. Made was very flexible where he took us and even took us to off the tourist route food places!

I would definitely recommend this place to stay at for anyone that wants a little getaway from the city life!
