Yurt in the Pocono Mountains!

Yurt - Entire home/apt · Greentown, PA, United States

What is a yurt you ask? It's a modern spin off of the circular, dome-shaped hut used by pastoral nomadic Mongolian and Turkic people. More conveniently located than Mongolia might be this yurt is located in the Pocono Mountains!

The Space

Come stay at our cozy yurt in the Pocono Mountains!

The yurt is tucked in a private totally secluded area of the woods 1/4 of a mile from our family's farm. The front porch of the yurt is the perfect place to sit back and relax in the adirondack chairs. Eagles and many other birds are often sited flying along the creek which is just steps off of the yurt porch. There are hammocks in the trees next to the creek and a fire-pit right along the water as well.

The yurt is completely off the grid... There is no electricity and no running water. There is an outhouse, we use water from the creek for cleaning and we have small solar powered lights. We recommend bringing headlamps or flashlights. There is an outhouse. Feel free to take a dip and bathe in the creek (although it is very chilly). Feel free to peruse the bookshelves for some fun reading.

The space is on farm property... and is therefore pet friendly! Please let us know if you plan on bringing your pup!

You are welcome to check-in after 4 and check out is before noon.

We will provide bedding and lots of quilts/blankets, but the yurt is minimally insulated so if visiting when the weather is chilly then it's best to bundle up, it can get cold at night!

We are near to Promised Land State Park, Lake Wallenpaupack and Bushkill Falls... all make for great day trips. If you search "discover pike PA" you'll see quite a few options for outdoor activities.

If your airbnb profile is not complete then please just tell us a little bit about yourself so we can see if our place is a good fit for you!

Once you confirm a booking then I will message you with more details of the yurt and the property.

Please message if you have any questions!

The Neighborhood

Getting around

Mount Pocono is the closest bus stop from NYC. Most people from NYC opt to rent a zipcar as it's a rural area and a car makes getting around easier.

  • Over the past weekend my wife and two of our good friends stayed at Brittany's family Yurt. The entire setting was so peaceful and beautiful. The Gross family has done a fantastic job of maintaining the wilderness feel of the Yurt, while providing the necessities for a relaxing stay. Brittany was very responsive to our questions and her answers were very helpful. I cant say enough about the accommodations that were provided here as well - fresh water, pot/pans, candles/lanterns and extra blankets for the chilly nights. The little touches were the best - the soap by the water basin, the toilet paper and hand sanitizer in the outhouse, the wheel barrel for our belongings. We loved all of the personalized items that filled the Yurt and we were proud of have signed the guestbook along with all of the previous guests. We spent most of our time around the camp fire or lounging in the hammocks. It was wonderful to unwind and disconnect from the everyday craziness and we will definitely become frequent visitors to this property!

  • Wow! Staying at this yurt was an incredible experience and a relaxing escape from the city. The setting is beautiful: right next to a bubbling creek, big towering trees, and cozy fire pit. I loved lazing in the hammocks while my boyfriend waded in the creek. It was also fun getting to know the little town: Spanky's is a must and the Hotel bar was full of local color and mega cheap beers at happy hour. The yurt at night is incredibly romantic with twig lights and the sound of the gurgling river in the background. The only downside was that since it was the beginning of July the yurt got pretty humid and cool at night, a somewhat clammy effect. But even that couldn't detract from the magic of the yurt! We went away relaxed and eager to come back!

  • The yurt was a wonderful get away for the weekend and it was nice and cool the entire stay. We had a great time relaxing by the water and using the grill- it was the perfect amount of comfort matched with outdoors/camping feel for us. We would recommend it for couples looking for a unique getaway!

  • We spent a weekend at the yurt and couldn't imagine a better place get away from it all. The yurt is very cozy with plenty of space and lots of nice little touches. From seeing a family of deer as we walked out the front door in the morning to relaxing in the hammocks with a good book in the afternoon to going to sleep to the sound of the creek in the evening, we loved every minute we were there.

  • The Yurt is a truly magical destination! The trees surrounding the creek are massive and gorgeous. We had a wonderful time with our two dogs. We appreciated the extra amenities provided including Brittany's handmade pottery and freshly picked flowers. There were so many lakes and state parks near by the options for day trips and hiking seemed limitless. We will definitely come back later in the summer so we can really swim!

  • My girlfriend and I spent the weekend there and we thought it was fabulous! The whole property is really nice and remote. We both took a dip in the creek and it was c(phone number hidden)ld but, it was certainly refreshing. They also have a gas grill, a beautiful fire pit (with plenty of firewood), and a bag of charcoal. Though, I would recommend bring some kindling, as the sticks and leaves in the surrounding area were a bit wet and hard to start. The yurt itself is beautiful and though it gets really dark at night they do have plenty of lights (we brought a couple of our own which did not go amiss). We found that flashlights to walk around at night were a must. Also, bring your own mugs if you want coffee or tea! One of the dogs (Tucker) came down to hang with us for awhile and he's such a friendly dog! Unfortunately, someone came to claim him later on that day :/

Other than those few things, they had every accommodation that could be thought of. My only regret is that I didn't see any of the family! I would have loved to have been able to greet our hosts. Oh, well...next time! If you do have any questions they reply by phone or email pretty quickly.

  • What a great experience at the yurt! The yurt is located at a site that's even more beautiful than the pictures. The campsite was wonderful and the yurt was very well-furnished and -provisioned with everything you need for a stay there. Our dog loved being able to run around off-leash and enjoy the woods. We will recommend to others and hope to return soon!

  • Absolutely magical. The setting and the Yurt. Great sense of creativity and whimsy and style. So lovely in the spring.

Brittany was easy to communicate with. Always responded quickly and with clarity.

Great bird watching. Better sightings around the Yurt than in the nature preserves we visited in the area.

It was very much like camping in some respects, including how your experience will relate to the prevailing weather. Be prepared in terms of lights and warmth and supplies.

The bed seemed nice enough, but was too soft for my back. Having a decent sleep is really important to me.

Some highlights of our trip included:

Bird Watching and a light walk during the day at Dorflinger - Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary. We did not go to Lacawac Sanctuary, but heard it was also a good spot.
Italian dinner at Napolitano's (do try the home-made cannoli dessert !)
    Pretzels at Callie's Pretzel Factory.
    Driving along the Delaware Gap.

    I highly recommend this experience.
