About this listing
What is a yurt you ask? It's a modern spin off of the circular, dome-shaped hut used by pastoral nomadic Mongolian and Turkic people. More conveniently located than Mongolia might be this yurt is located in the Pocono Mts!
Come stay at our cozy yurt in the Pocono Mountains!
The yurt is tucked in a private totally secluded area of the woods 1/4 of a mile from our family's farm. The front porch of the yurt is the perfect place to sit back and relax in the adirondack chairs. Eagles and many other birds are often sited flying along the creek which is just steps off of the yurt porch. There are hammocks in the trees next to the creek and a fire-pit right along the water as well.
The yurt is completely off the grid... There is no electricity and no running water. There is an outhouse, we use water from the creek for cleaning and we have small solar powered lights. We recommend bringing headlamps or flashlights. Feel free to take a dip and bathe in the creek (although it is very chilly). Peruse the bookshelves for some fun reading. We have a grill and a campfire. We offer a tea pot and coffee percolator which you can use over the stove portion of the grill.
The space is on farm property... and is therefore pet friendly! If you are scared of dogs or would rather not have any interaction with animals, this may not be the best place for you. Please let us know if you plan on bringing your pup!
You are welcome to check-in after 4 and check out is before noon.
We will provide bedding and lots of quilts/blankets, but the yurt is minimally insulated so if visiting when the weather is chilly then it's best to bundle up, it can get cold at night! You are welcome to visit in the fall and winter - however please treat it like winter camping and bring your own heavy sleeping bags!
We are near to Promised Land State Park, Lake Wallenpaupack and Bushkill Falls... all make for great day trips. If you search "discover pike PA" you'll see quite a few options for outdoor activities.
If your airbnb profile is not complete then please just tell us a little bit about yourself so we can see if our place is a good fit for you!
Once you confirm a booking then I will message you with more details of the yurt and the property.
Please message if you have any questions!
Spanky's - diner style breakfast and is the local hang out
Newfoundland Hotel – awesome dinners and the local bar
Mount Pocono is the closest bus stop from NYC. Most people from NYC opt to rent a zipcar as it's a rural area and a car makes getting around easier.
Wonderful!! Wish we could have stayed a week. Clean, private, beautiful. Thanks for a great stay.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the yurt. It was extremely peaceful by the stream. We had a nice campfire at night and there was propane and everything we needed to BBQ. Inside the yurt was extremely cozy, we especially liked that it was extremely secluded. It gave us the feeling of camping but without the tent of course. Overall our stay was great! Cute pups greeted us and we had everything we needed :) Thanks Britt!
We had an amazing time at the yurt!We were greeted by a sweet little dog and a lovely woman named Linda. It was beautiful, peaceful and we loved it!our kids absolutely loved it and ask daily to go back! After we put them to bed you got to have some much-needed romance under the stars :-) The pigs and chickens or a bonus and we love them too! Spanky's was a great breakfast spot the next day!
Everything was as mentioned, though actually experiencing it is worth more than words.
Beautiful, serene, great place to just sit back, relax and enjoy some time with friends or loved ones. The yurt is very cozy and anything but basic. We were greeted by a couple of friendly dogs who love people. Very clear and friendly communication with Britt. Highly recommended
We had an amazing relaxing weekend at the yurt! Beautiful, secluded property with everything we needed. Though we didn't meet Britt or her family, thoughtful touches were everywhere from the twinkly lights decorating the yurt to the extra bug spray and coffee. A magical weekend, we'll be sure to return!
Stayed one night in this charming and secluded yurt in South Sterling! It was easy to find and I can't recommend it enough if you are looking to build a fire, chill.. Listen to a rushing stream, cook some food, and sleep in nature. The yurt feels secluded but not in far enough from civilization that you feel stranded. The host, Britt, was quickly responsive, friendly and polite! We will definitely be returning to the yurt!
About the Host, Britt
Thanks for checking out our profile! The yurt is built in the woods on our family farm property. As is the case with farming - there is always work to be done... Since building the yurt in 2011 it has been the place for family and friends to kick back and relax. In 2013 we began welcoming visitors to the yurt on airbnb... we've had an absolute blast doing so. We don't always get a chance to meet 'yurters' but we love sharing our special hide-away. We hope you enjoy!
