The Castro is a neighborhood of economic success that brings in capital all year round with many events catered to the gay community along with everyday business.
The Castro is a “thriving marketplace for all things gay” meaning there are gay cafes, gay theatres, gay shopping malls, and all other possible amenities with the word “gay” placed before it to make it a specialty establishment aimed at gay consumers. These establishments make the Castro an area of high spending and lead to high tourist traffic. Local residents to the area are not the only people who frequent the streets of the Castro. People travel from outside the city to visit the shops and restaurants as well as the events that take place such as the Castro Street Fair. Travelers make the trek from all over to experience this annual event and though it is advertised as LGBT, that does not stop heterosexual people from attending and partaking in the festivities. Events such as the Castro Street Fair drum up business for the community and bring in people from all over the world who visit solely for the atmosphere the Castro offers.

Jan responded the same day. This listing is a great place to stay and was even better than described on Airbnb.. Very very clean and comfortable. And a good value..
The sweetest little studio on earth!! The location, the furnishings, the patio, the amenities, the host, the price, were all simply perfect down to the last detail. If being in the heart of the district is a priority for you, this is the property! At the peak of Pride Weekend our studio was still quiet, tranquil, safe and secure. Thanks to it's prime location we could be in the thick of the action is seconds, but, sleep undisturbed while the party continued. Lots of convenient transportation (public & private) are immediately at hand. All-in-all an exceptional listing!
I had a great time staying in the studio. I mainly only needed a quiet, comfortable, and secluded place to sleep, as I was out and about all day each day, and this studio was perfect. The bed is comfortable with more pillows than I knew what to do with. The door to the unit opens out into a lovely little courtyard, and the courtyard opens onto a quiet side street in one of the best neighborhoods in SF, walkable to so many amenities. I would definitely stay here again.
A fabulous find! Jan's flat is everything listed and more. The flat itself is adorable and very well kept. Very comfortable bed. The TV is huge and awesome for watching in bed. The fireplace makes it so cozy. The patio is a nice bit of serenity. The location is perfect. It is a perfectly serene street in the midst of all the hustle and bustle that surrounds you. You are in the Castro with all it has to offer and it has a lot to offer. And you are also only about a 10-15 minute walk to the Mission depending on which part you are going to. Jan is so easy to communicate with and quick to respond. We feel lucky she hosted us. We would stay again in a heartbeat.
The studio was very cozy, comfortable, and clean, and was exactly as advertised. I didn't actually meet Jan in-person to check in (you enter codes for entry and unlocking), but she was always available via text/messaging, esp. when I had a question about the lock codes. The size of the place was just right, as I spent most of my time out and about visiting friends and heading to restaurants. It served as a great "homebase" given its convenient location and the calming private garden. The location of this studio can't be (email hidden) is central to the MUNI underground, which you can use to transfer to BART and Caltrain very easily. It's also walking distance to the Castro's main strip, and Upper Mission/Valencia St. I will definitely recommend this place to others.
Note that the fireplace is the studio's heat source during foggy/windy SF summer nights, if you are sensitive to dry indoor air.
Lovely studio with a charming garden -- conveniently located and easy to access. Thank you!
The studio is really great! I loved staying there. The location is perfect, close to the MUNI, bars and restaurant. However, the noise was never an issue. The little garden outside is really great to relax and forget about the traffic. A little piece of heaven! I will definitely come back again!

About the Host, Jan
I've lived in the Castro for 26 years and love it! The house is centrally located in the Castro district of San Francisco in the Castro village (flat ground no hills). It has a "walk score" of 100 out of 100! and transportation score of 98 out of 100. Within 1/2 block of fantastic restaurants, shops, clubs and bars! Dolores Park, Duboce Park, Castro movie theater are less than 5 minutes away. Yet, in the middle of all this action, I live on a very quiet tree lined street.
I grew up in Honolulu and have traveled extensively to Costa Rica, Puerto Vallarta, British Virgin Islands, St Barths, Berlin, Munich, Braunschweig, Germany, Tuscany Italy, and London. I lived in Sydney Australia for a couple of years. Worked in Braunschweig Germany for two and a half years. I love to travel and meet new people and experience different cultures.
I don't offer just a place to sleep but a friendly, quiet, warm environment where you can relax after long hours of sightseeing, sip a glass of wine in the beautiful garden or just soak up the sun.
