About this listing
Cross the bridge and enter our little artsy, woodsy, heaven. Our eco-friendly, timberframe style home was designed by us, and is located along a winding brook on 17 wooded acres in central Vermont. We offer a double bed in a private, sun-filled, first-floor bedroom with separate bathroom. Though the property is on a quiet country road, it is just 15 minutes from the Vermont capital, Montpelier, and even closer to Waterbury, home of Ben and Jerry's and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. The Mad River Valley is an easy 20-minute drive, and Stowe Village is 30 minutes away. Opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking, swimming, and fishing abound. There are hiking trails on the property, flower and vegetable gardens, and a babbling brook that is wonderfully soothing to fall asleep to. An on-site hot tub is available and is especially nice under the stars.
In addition to being artists, Galen and John are professional massage therapists, and can book you for a treatment for an additional fee.
Local bread , cheese, eggs, and cereals are usually on hand, and if the time allows, happy to whip up some eggs or French toast.! Good coffee is brewing early, help yourself!
We are down to earth types seeking same. We want guests to feel welcome and relaxed here, and expect people to be respectful and not overly rowdy. No smoking inside, please. We have one dog, Luna, she's fairly old and loves people, but not other dogs so much.
Please give us at least 24 hours advanced notice of your reservation request, so that we will be more likely able to accommodate you.
Our stay at the art house was fantastic! John and Galen were very laid back and flexible with our arrival time. The house is on top of a hill in a woodsy area, which was perfect for peace and privacy. A nighttime dip in the hot tub while looking at a sky full of stars was a relaxing treat. They also have a big spa-like shower that was extra relaxing as well. John and Galen made us very welcome in their home while allowing us plenty of space to do our own thing. When we rolled out of the bedroom to greet the morning, they were ready with a fresh breakfast and hot coffee. They gave us lots of useful suggestions for places to eat and sights to see, and they even gave us a jar to fill with maple syrup! If you are looking for a unique place to stay, that is peaceful and private, with friendly and laid-back hosts, look no further.
Galen is great and really communicative. Their house is beautiful and really unique. I didn't love the area, which is why I'm not giving it high marks across the board, but that's just my opinion.
Our room was ready upon arrival with clean bath towels and plenty of space to unpack our belongings. The home is in the country with a creek running next to the home which was peaceful and serene. The property sits on 17 acres of woods and was exactly what I had hoped for.
This was such a lovely place to stay! From the comfy room and much needed hot tub to the funky art and layed back feel, this is truely a treasure. If you are lucky enough to stay here, do yourself a favor and get a message from John. Our only regret is that our stay was too short. Thanks again for a wonderful stay in your gorgeous home!
We really had a good time here. It is a beautiful house and very cozy. Their hot tub is wonderful, you can see stars and even firefly there. We will definitely come back again.
Galen and John were kind, generous, and hospitable. They have a lovely, bright home, which provided a great mid-winter getaway--an opportunity to enjoy, and not be inconvenienced by, the snow. We hope to return in the summer to enjoy the region--and the company--again.
Galen and John are totally great people and are great hosts. they were responsive and made us comfortable in their home. Great location to hit up northern Central Vermont/southern Northern Vermont. The room was exactly as advertised, clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom. The house is groovy and on a cool piece of property which they even let me explore. John whipped up some awesome breakfasts for us and encouraged us to use his outdoor hot tub, which even at 11 degrees F outside was not something to pass up. Amazing how that works. Their wifi actually works; we were able to stream Netflix at night. John, a massage therapist, even worked on my fiancé the morning after our xcountry ski day, and she said he was outstanding. I would definitely recommend Galen and John's AirBnB experience. Good times and thank you to them!
So glad I have the opportunity to elaborate! Daniel and Marina were positively delightful. They were everything you would want in a houseguest: friendly, warm, quiet, and considerate. The are fun people, and nice to hang out with over coffee. We hope to see them again!
About the Host, Galen
My husband, John, and I are artists and massage therapists. He's a New Yorker, I'm a New Englander, and we are both Vermont lovers. John designed our house and we both helped build it six years ago. We would love to provide a cozy, mellow, artsy home base for anyone visiting central Vermont.
