Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • First time using Airbnb and we liked it. The place itself is an efficiency apartment just as pictured. The room had a dorm feel to it. The building's hallway and back entrance could use some cleaning up but the room itself was as I expected it to be. I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't see any critters or bugs at all during our stay.
One issue my Husband had was that the outdoor window shutters could not be closed and were 3/4ths open which allowed light in the room at night. Nothing major.
The bed was somewhat uncomfortable as one of us was always sinking to the center...not sure if the bed was on cinderblocks lacking support in the center?
The host was very friendly and we felt comfortable calling him if anything came-up.

  • Great location! This apartment was just a few steps from a plethora of places to grab a quick bite to eat. Moreover, it is a short walk to the UT campus and there is a city bus stop just behind the building to take you anywhere you might want to be. Stephanie made checking in and out a breeze! I texted her when I landed and she was there to meet me with the key when I arrived at the apartment. While the building itself leaves a lot to be desired, the apartment is everything you'll need for your stay. I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a good value in a great location in Austin.

  • I think the fairest way to outline our experience is by listing the pros and cons.

    * Very spacious, plenty of room for 2
    * All the 'essentials' incl. hair dryer, towels, ironing board etc
    * Onsite parking and easy walk to Sixth Street
    * Upon arrival, Jon Cory was friendly, inviting, and provided good local knowledge.

    * Noise. Our first night we woke to the neighbours getting home at 3am. We thought they were hanging out in the hall, right outside our door, but it turned out that the walls are so thin and the doors so close together that we could actually hear everything they were saying in their apartment. They weren't shouting or playing music, just talking and it sounded like they were in the room with us. The second night we woke to a woman wailing/screaming for around an hour in another apartment. Obviously this is out of the hosts control, but unless you are a deep sleeper I would recommend bringing some good ear plugs.
    * The bed had a big dip in the middle which meant that you naturally ended up rolling towards it - this would be no biggie for one person, but with two we were very uncomfortable as we both ended up in the middle of the bed.
    * The hallway did smell quite bad as mentioned by others - this didn't really extend into the apartment.
    * Smaller issues that normally wouldn't warrant mentioning, but on top of the above were a nuisance: old light switches/fans that required some fiddling to get working; the window needed to be propped open for fresh air as it didn't stay open by itself; the fridge had items including half drunk Starbucks leftover from a previous occupant; and the bath/shower needed a good scrub.

We decided to cut our stay in Austin short, mainly because we wanted to check out some other cities. Unfortunately, at this point Jon Cory stopped responding to my messages, which was disappointing.

All of my previous experiences with airbnb had been excellent and great value, so we chose to stay here thinking it would save us some money even though it wasn't that much cheaper than a 3 star hotel in the area. In hindsight we wished we had just paid a little extra to stay elsewhere.

  • My roommate and I couldn't have asked for a better spot to crash in Austin during SXSW 2014 than Jon Cory's place.

He let us drop our bags at the apartment before check-in so we could head to the convention center the morning of our arrival. By the time we made it back hours later we had no trouble meeting him for keys and official check-in. On our way out a week later Jon Cory was super flexible with our check-out because of a late flight, and once again held bags past the scheduled time. He was super personable and helpful throughout the whole stay. He was also easy to communicate with via airbnb during the booking process months before.

The apartment is perfect for a spot to crash during an adventure vacation in Austin. Several city buses (that go to all the right places) have stops right outside the property. The pub across the street is great and the capitol building is a 5 minute walk. The neighborhood is real safe both day and night, and a walk back from downtown at night was never a problem. If you're cool to walk a mile or two you can't beat this apartment's location.

The room is cozy and has more than enough amenities for a temporary stay. Jon Cory had it stocked with all the linens, towels, and toiletries we needed for a week stay. Comfy bed and divan in the living room, and a working toilet, shower, and sink in the bathroom. If you're trying to cook at any point the kitchen has most everything you'd need, along with some canned goods in the cabinets and coffee supplies on the counter. The air conditioner in the living room came in handy a few warm nights.

For your week in Austin, this cozy little spot really can't be beat. Perfect for one or two who want to spend their days and nights out in the city and come back to sleep safe and sound.

  • Great place to stay when visiting Austin. It's exactly as described, very safe area, close walking distance to anywhere you want to go.

  • Great location and very nice host!

  • We had a great stay here -- the apartment had all the basics and is cozy and clean, and our host Jon was very attentive. Can't beat the location, and the free parking is an awesome bonus.

  • The place was pretty much exactly what we were looking for. Had all the basics, was clean, and was pretty close to downtown. Also, free parking, which was fantastic to have! The hallways kind of had, shall we say a "scent," but that didn't continue into their room and definitely wasn't their fault. Didn't use any of the kitchen facilities, but everything looked nice and clean.

  • Our stay in Austin was fantastic!! Jon Cory was incredibly hospitable and even took the time and initiative to go above and beyond our expectations. There was one instance where some of the wall outlets stopped working and Jon Cory immediately reconciled the issue! The location is absolutely perfect if you are looking to be close to downtown and if you are interested in a walking exploration of the city. The apartment is an adequate size for two individuals, and it is in an area that is safe to walk at night-considering we were two females in our 20's. We would most definitely stay here again given the opportunity!

  • Great location, Jon was super nice and responsive. Halls are pretty dingy (not Jon and Stephanie's fault) and place needs a little upkeep but great place to crash while you are in ATX. Cool old building with character.
