The converted garage has salvaged gym floor (fromPCC) that add color and light. There are 3 skylights so an abundance of natural light fill the place. There is a loft to sleep in and another small couch that pulls out as a single bed. There is a full kitchen but the only oven is a toaster oven. The bathroom is large and has a stackable washer dryer in it. There are chickens in the backyard so always fresh eggs to eat and I will leave basic necessities (such as coffee and cream) out there.
You'll enter through a set of carriage doors to my backyard. The entrance is separate but the backyard is shared with me and my 2 girls. There is a garden you're welcome to eat from and a nice sitting spot. The neighborhood is very nice and convenient. There is a Whole Foods and New Seasons within walking distance. I am between the Mississippi, Alberta and Williams neighborhoods. I'm 2 miles from downtown and the bus is very close. There are bikes you can use and maybe a car if arranged.
The place is made from mostly salvaged material. There are many crazy neat light fixtures and a curved church window from a church that was demolished. There is lots of privacy but you might hear chickens or a far away train.
The Hen House was perfect for our little family. It's a cozy place only a few minutes from every place we wanted to go. There were fresh eggs, fruit, yogurt and coffee waiting for us for breakfast. Norah was totally accommodating when I mixed up my travel dates. We had a great stay!
During my first ever visit to Portland, I stayed in Norah's Hen House for a week and had a lovely time. The place is cozy and accommodated three people just fine. The space is small, but very well-utilized. The kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked with everything you could need; Norah is very thoughtful with the amenities she provides.
The loft space where the bed is has a very low ceiling (I'm 5'8" and bumped my head a lot) and the stairs leading up to the loft are a bit steep and precarious; these are just minor quibbles.
Norah was very responsive via text with any questions I had and very accommodating. Great host!
The neighborhood is cute, safe, quiet, and very convenient (a 5-10 minute drive to downtown). Highly recommend this place if you're in Portland!
Norah's place was perfect for our needs. We wanted a homebase for exploring Portland, and the Hen House was nice and cozy. It was a little snug for three adults, but we mostly used it for luggage storage and sleeping anyway. The loft bed and pull-out bed were really comfortable. Loved the huge bathroom and nearly full-sized kitchen too. The unit also has a free washer and dryer, which was really convenient for us after a long day of hiking. Norah also supplied every toiletry imaginable. Check-in/out was really simple too, and although we didn't meet, Norah was always extremely responsive when I messaged her. Definitely would stay there again. Thanks again, Norah!
We loved Norah's place. I stayed with my husband and my two year old and we were very comfortable in this space. This place was better than what we expected and we enjoyed our stay very much. Norah was also very kind and helpful. It is close to many restaurants and it is easy to get around town from this location.
Awesome place to stay at. Really makes you feel like you live in Portland! Norah always replied back to me instantly and made sure I had everything I needed. The place was well kept and almost everything looks newly renovated. My friends and I had a great stay and it made our trip that much better. I will come back here if I'm ever in Portland. Thanks again!
My husband, 5 year old son, and I had a great stay. Everything was as described. Norah's place was clean, comfortable, and safe. Norah made our stay in Portland easy and enjoyable.
My friend, her dog, and I arrived a few hours later than we'd planned. Cold outside, but warm and homey inside. We loved our stay!! The chickens were adorable; the place was super cozy and clean. Nora really de-devils the details, with nice personal touches, like soaps and towels (and fresh eggs in the fridge.) Her place is super close to everything too, so heading out for a bite or a flick was easy, and coming "home" was perfect. When I visit Portland again, I'll be booking her place again.
This was such a sweet little space! Coffee and fruit in the morning. Such a unique little place, it inspires me to build one in my yard too. Thanks again Norah! If I'm coming up to Portland again I'd definitely stay again. Cheers!
Norah was the best host ever! She went above and beyond for us. She was patient and kind. The space was perfect, bed comfortable, bathroom and shower huge. The mini fridge fit everything we needed and the fresh eggs from her chickens in the backyard were great! Also, the rocking chair was amazing after long days of exploring. I would stay again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much!
Norah's carriage suite was perfect for our stay in Portland. This was our first Air BnB experience and Norah sure has set the bar high! The loft bed was oh so comfortable and the bathroom was bright, big and clean. There was coffee, cream, eggs, fruit and other snacks available in the fridge and laundry (although we didn't need it). We barely saw Norah but she was a gracious host and easily accessible by text. She was very accommodating to our dog, which is always a bonus. Location wise, Norah's place is close to everything including the Mississippi strip and only a short 5-10 minute drive into Downtown. We will definitely be contacting Norah the next time we head to Portland!
