Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
Enjoy a quiet stay on an organic vegetable farm nestled in a beautiful agricultural neighborhood in the Shenandoah Valley. A 10-15 minute drive to Harrisonburg and JMU, this location offers the best of rural life as well as easy access to local destinations.

The space
You'll stay in a private apartment in the 1890s farm house that has been recently renovated to restore its historic charm with a vintage, artsy flair. The apartment occupies the north side of the house with its own parking, porch and entrance. Furnishings are simple and rustic.

The front room features a small but functional kitchenette. Whether its reheating food in the microwave or doing some small scale cooking using the hotplate or countertop oven, you'll have the tools you need to get the job done. The kitchen sink features great tasting reverse osmosis filtered water.

The bedroom sleeps two adults in a standard queen bed and also comes with a Pack 'N Play for a small child.

The bathroom features a generous clawfoot tub for soaking and can also be used as a shower.

Sound: Our family occupies the other part of the house. The two living spaces are completely separate and we undertook soundproofing efforts to minimize noise transfer. Our soundproofing efforts dampened many sounds, but some frequencies will still be heard. Think of it as living in an apartment complex and being able to tell when your neighbors are home. Depending on when you are here, you may hear our footsteps on the creaky staircase, water churning through the pipes, pots banging in the kitchen etc... If you are here during the week you may hear muted piano sounds coming from the piano lessons I teach. We have provided a white noise machine to help mask any noise that bothers you.

Accessibility: We regret that our apartment is not well suited to accommodate mobility limitations. Although the apartment itself is one level, two short flights of stairs are used to reach the entrance. Some of the kitchen features are lower to the ground and the bathtub is a claw foot tub.

Guest access
Experiencing the farm: Because this is a working farm we ask guests to check with us before walking the fields by yourself.
We love to show guests around the gardens and share our vision for sustainable food production. Our farm business, Friendly Neighbor Gardens, provides vegetable to families, restaurants and stores throughout the Harrisonburg/Rockingham area.

Other things to note
Sustainability and health are important values in our family and we extend that to our guest apartment where possible. We use fragrance free, non-toxic cleaning and laundry agents. We make it possible for guests to recycle recyclables and compost food scraps. We line dry our linens when weather permits.

Neighborhood highlights

Our farm is located in a beautiful agricultural neighborhood with stunning views of the valley and the Massanutten mountain range. Our gravel lane connects to other quiet gravel roads which are great for taking a walk or a jog without any concerns about vehicle traffic. Our neighbors have cows, pigs and other livestock which are fun to watch from the lane. Bird watchers can spot birds who live in the meadow, pond and tree habitats in the neighborhood. The historic Brenneman/Turner Mill is within walking distance and offers educational tours during the summer.

I'm pianist turned gardener in Linville, Virginia. I'm a freelance collaborative pianist and private studio teacher while also finishing up my doctoral studies in music at JMU. When I'm not in the studio, I'm out in the gardens helping Stefan, learning about plants, listening to birdsong and enjoying beauty wherever I find it.
