Zmorge bei Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau?

Apartment - Private room · Steigerweg, Berne, Canton of Bern 3006, Switzerland

Enjoy a massive brunch with local organic specialities @ our place and undertake a short walk after - with a just spectacular view over Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. The three famous mountains in the Bernese Alps, maybe you visit them during your stay.

The Space

The title means «breakfast with Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau». That's the name of the three famous mountains up in the Alps. You can have the same thing in the best hotel in town, the 5 ***** Bellevue. But we offer for a better price and only tasty stuff from an nearby organic farm.

For single and double traveling persons we offer a huge room. There you find a regular double bed (mattress on tatami and wooden rack, measurements 200 cm / 78.74 inches x 160 cm / 62.99 inches).

The flat is situated perfect for touristic matters. Just 5 minutes by foot from Zentrum Paul Klee ZPK, the bear park, the rose garden with its beautiful sight and of course the UNESCO world heritage, the old town. A motorway connection is 350 feet away (Bern-Ostring). The train main station is a good 10 minutes away by bus, the station is just a minute outside of our door.

We live in a house originating from the early 20th century. That makes the 3.5 room flat in the parterre / ground level excitingly & quite cosy. We created it old & new, favorably & chiq. Highlights are the lovely garden space with direct access from the living room and - as you already know - the location.

Guest Access

You have a private room and we provide a rich brunch. As well as fast wireless internet and you can find some needful brochures about Bern or can find information in our online guidebook. Towels for the bath room and bed things are included.

The bath room, kitchen and living room you share with us. We never had any problem in organising this so far. And if you have some special needs, we're sure to find a solution. This means using the washing machine (if the schedule allows) or similar things. We really tend to treat you as royals ;-)

Interaction with Guests

We would be happy to show you around or tell you a bit of local chit chat. We're happy to recommend places to go or to cook & eat with you. But don't be scared, that's just if you like so and we're able to settle our schedule to. We also just can offer you an easy place to stay.

In any case, we love living in Bern. We enjoy our sight from the table and our way to work trough the old town. That's why we're motivated to host you and post this ad.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood offers a very quiet atmosphere with a locally typical «fin de siècle» mood. It's green and has access to many beautiful walks in even greener environment.

It's situated quite well to explore Bern. Touristic hot spots like «Zentrum Paul Klee», «Rosengarten» or «Bärenpark» are within short walking distance. So is the old town and the river.

Our quarter offers a baker's shop, a small supermarket, a gas station with a little shop open a bit longer at night and two restaurants. On the one side the «Brasserie Obstberg» with decent traditional food on the upper middle price scale. And on the other side the restaurant at the museum «Zentrum Paul Klee», the «Schöngrün». This is one of the best if not the best one in town. It's blessed with stars, points and hats and it's in consequence quite costly. But delicious.

In the old town you'll find loads of bars, clubs and restaurants of different styles. Check the guidebook for our hints.

Getting around

Nearby there is a bus taking you downtown (good 10 minutes) or to the «Zentrum Paul Klee» (2 stations). This is bus # 12.

Another bus, although not so frequent, is the # 40. It's a peripheric line and brings you to the S-train-stadion «Wankdorf». By passing the stadium «Stade de Suisse», known for concerts or sports events, mainly football.

The fares are rather expensive, when you use public transport the whole day or a couple of days it's better to buy day cards or more. Detailled information you'll get at any stop or in the tourist office inside the main station.

Other Things to Note

* * * Be advised this can be dangerous - even for experienced and good swimmers! * * *

Enjoy the river, especially when you see half of the locals inside. It's great fun and a singular thing to experience. But consider some safety points:

- Don't swim AFTER «Marzili public swimming pool» underneath the parliament builiding and before «Altenberg» (after the sharp left turn under «Nydegg Bridge» / «Bärenpark»).

- Listen to your body: When you start feeling tired, don't try to be tough and stay inside. Don't panic, look calm for an exit and get out. A sudden lack of power is often reason for almost and real accidents.

- When you feel a bit scared or unsafe, ask locals to stay around you inside the water - they might help you with the special things like getting out and stuff.

- Only enter the river in good shape (considering food, hang over, muscular strain and similar things).

- Obey rules and signs. E.g. if the water is brown and quite high (and nobody else is inside) don't go inside. There might be wooden parts from storms in the mountains which can be a great danger.

- As we said, swimming in the «Aare» is unique, even in Switzerland. Enjoy it - but be aware that it's still a river with it's own rules.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • It was my first AirBnB experience, and I am glad to say that Beni and Franziska are very kind and lovely hosts. They were very friendly and helpful. I stayed in Bern for a couple of days for a business trip followed by some very relaxed days in the idyllic capital of Switzerland. The apartment is optimal for two guests; the bedroom is very nice, spacious and comfortable. I really liked the tasteful decoration. Beni and Franziska offered a warm welcome, and in the mornings Beni prepared a delicious breakfast with all you could which for – coffee, cheeses, meat and fresh fruits – he also gave us suggestions for our local excursions. The conversations with Franziska and Beni were a real enrichment – it was a pleasure to have such open-minded and hospitable hosts. And of course we enjoyed out time with the two cats Franz & Ruedi. I would love to go back to Bern and stay with Franziska and Beni again!

  • Beni and Franziska were very friendly and help during our short stay in their lovely apartment. We had a lovely breakfast prepared by Beni and enjoyed our conversation with him. He graciously recommended a very good restaurant to us and even booked a table on our behalf. We enjoyed the dinner very much. His tips for the old town and musuem were also much appreciated. His place is also very near the Paul Klee museum which is a must-visit. Thanks v much Beni and Franziska!

  • Beni and Franziska are lovely hosts. The check-in was very smooth and they were already waiting for us in the flat. The flat is well-decorated and our room is very spacious.

We only stayed there for one night and Beni suggested a good half-day itinerary for us to explore Bern in such limited time.

Beni is a great cook and the breakfast was the best we've ever had with Airbnb. We love chatting with Beni & Franziska.

  • A great experience! Beni & Franziska are a very nice, fun and spontaneous couple. They are very happy to share great sight seeing ideas and their breakfast is very tasty & made with local ingredients. Their place is easy to find as its right on the bus line from the train station plus its just a short walk to the Rose Garden or Historic Bern.

  • Beni is a wonderful host, really nice and friendly, who makes you feel like at home. His house is fantastic (placed at 10 minutes of Bäregranden by foot), and the breakfast really succulent.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Beni and Franziska's place. They are very helpful, knowledgeable, kind and conscientious hosts. The place itself is very comfortable and within a walking distance (uphill) from Bear Graben or a quick bus ride from the station. The breakfast is wonderful. We highly recommend their place in Bern!

  • I had the best Airbnb experience yet with Beni and Franziska.
They are friendly and welcoming, it was like staying with old friends. It was great to share a meal together and get to know them. Beni is an amazing cook and I was fortunate to share one of his own signature dishes with him, as well as a traditional Swiss breakfast.
They're very social and they directed me to the best places which allowed me to make the very best of my 2 and a half days in Bern.
Franziska even lent me her bike!
And they took me for a tour in the region, and Beni was a great tour guide, with interesting historic facts.
Their apartment Is bright, spacious and artistic with their personalities.
I really enjoyed my stay and I miss Switzerland already!
I hope to see you two again someday! Come to Canada!

  • I stayed with Beni and Franziska for a night in Bern on my way through to Geneva. They are a lovely couple and their place is highly recommended. The dinner and breakfast were fantastic, and they made me feel very welcome. My only regret is that I stayed one night there. I would love to go back to Bern and stay with them again.

Komme gerne wieder.

When summer comes we like our city very much. With the amount of green spots and the river we like most spending time here. But during the other seasons we like to travel to other destinations. They need to offer us a positive, creative basic groove, decent local food, arts and maybe historical spots as well as beautiful landscapes to capture in pictures. Because we are a photographer (Franziska) and a student of history, islamic studies & oecology. And - well - we both are a bit nuts, officially.
