Smell the flowers! Typical summer day. Great place to hang out and chat with neighbors and passersby. Don't F it up!
HOUSE: Our home has 3 bedrooms but please note that the upstairs room will be locked and off limits. The loft area / workspace with two desks upstairs can be used. The two main bedrooms are downstairs. Bedroom 1 on the main floor has a queen bed and overlooks the back yard. Bedroom 2 is next to bedroom 1 and has 2 twin beds. There is a bathroom at the end of the hall on main floor has been completely renovated, no bathtub (but we have a small one for little ones). Much of the house has been updated. All of the windows are new and can be opened!
Limited to 4 adults (2 per room). Children allowed.
There is a large living room with TV & Apple TV / Netflix (but TV service is limited). The dining room connects to the living room. The kitchen is of small/ medium size, large enough for 3-4 people to hang out in comfortably while cooking. The stove is gas and the oven electric (new). We have Instant Hot Water, so be careful not to burn yourself. It's 180 degrees. There is an office nook off of the kitchen with a view of the back yard. WIFI (g/b/n/ac) works inside and out.
There is a large basement that only has washer and dryer and a deep freezer at the moment.
The backyard is large and has a seating / bbq area. Small bow pit. There are blueberry and strawberry bushes, herbs and vegetables in the back, plus lots of room for hanging out or for kids to play. The garage has space for bikes and other things. We have 1 single and 1 tandem kayak that can be used, as well as a kayak rack/ straps if your car has a rack.
The house has heat and AC, although the AC is only needed about two weeks out of the year, usually in August for a few hours on those days. During the summer, sleep with windows open, nice and cool.
Our street is very quiet at night- and during the day the neighbors are out and about socializing.
LOCATION: Welcome to Sellwood-Westmoreland, one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Portland. Our Cape Cod home is just two blocks from some of the neighborhood's best offerings, including bars, restaurants, cafes, antique stores, movie theater, and grocery store. One of the most famous restaurants in the city is 2 blocks away (Saburo's) and a great wine bar (Corkscrew) is right next to it. One of the best Thai restaurants is 4 blocks away (Manao) and an awesome yogurt place is 3 blocks away.
We are also only 7-8 minutes drive from Hawthorne and Downtown and about 5 minutes to OMSI (science museum). We are a 10-minute walk to Westmoreland Park (one of the largest parks in Portland), a 6-minute walk to the Farmer's Market (every Wednesday starting May 15), and a 10-minute bike ride (1 mile) to the river. The northern entrance to the Walking trails of Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge (150 acres) is a 7-minute walk. Reed College and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (the best park in the city) is at most a 10-minute bike ride away (.75 miles). The only public golf course in the city limits (Eastmoreland Golf Course) borders the Rhody Garden.
We are also only a 15-minute walk to Oaks Bottom Amusement Park (think the movie BIG, but more than 100 years old) and the entrance to the 40-mile Spring Water Bike Corridor that loops around the city. Although all of these things are just around the corner,
We have a driveway and street parking if you are driving. The bus from downtown drops off a block away. Riding your bike? the Spring Water Corridor is two blocks away- no cars- and takes you to downtown through a 150-acre bio-reserve along the Willamette River.
Key to front and back door.
Interaction with Guests
We won't be here, but you'll love our neighbors.
And our Ping Pong table in the garage. Note that you need to unlock the standing side of the table to get it to come down and the legs might need to be wiggled.
90+ walkscore says about half of it. Here are some other great factors:

Other Things to Note
Read our 30 reviews from past renters at our previous location. All top notch.
Note, one room is an adult room with a queen bed, one room is a kids room with two twin beds, and the third room upstairs is off limits. We also have a blow up mattress. The couch is comfortable for naps.
Please treat our house like your own and please Please clean up after yourself. The cleaning fee is for general cleaning, but we still expect our guests to leave the house as they found it.
Shoes off inside is an absolute must. No smoking. No pets. But kids are OK. We have lots of toys for them. Just makes sure they don't draw on the walls, scratch the floors or break anything.:) The house is pretty kid-safe since we have 2 of our own.
Please wash dirty dishes each evening. Portland has an ant problem, but we don't have ants because we clean often.
Feel free to use our kayak, vests and paddles (if you know how), as well as any kids toys that you see. Please do not use our bikes unless you rent them through Spinlister. Ask us for details.
Please leave the lights off when you leave the house, and please do not waste electricity. The A/C may only be used if it gets to 77 degrees in the house, as the stat is not accurate. Otherwise, just open the windows. The heat comes on automatically if under 65 degrees. Please do leave the ac/heat on for more than 1 hour.
Please recycle and compost. All food scraps go in the green bags that we have; otherwise the compost bin will stink! It is very simple, and we have trash cans specifically for those things. Trash must be taken to curbside on Monday nights and cans brought back in Tuesday. Regular trash comes every two weeks, so please do not throw recycling or compost in the regular trash and vice versa.
This is before bookshelf. Imagine a custom-made bookshelf on the right wall with a big flatscreen behind oh so lovely wooden doors.
We had a great time! The house was very comfortable and our toddler loved having some "new" toys to play with while we stayed there. Plus the AC was a godsend on the 100F weekend we were in town. Sam checked in by text to make sure we had what we needed. Thanks for the great weekend!
Sam is the best host I have ever had. He explained almost everything I need to know about his house when I went to pick the key up. Sam and his wife keep the house very clean and organized. They even left their food for us! I just felt like living in a friend's house. The location is the best! Walkable to many nice restaurants, grocery stores, and so on! Very convenient and very comfortable!!!
Sam was a perfect host and answered all of our questions prior to arrival. My husband and I traveled with our 18 month old son and this was the perfect house for us. There were plenty of toys and books for him to play with and they also had a booster chair and crib. The house is located in a great area. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking in the Portland area.

About the Host, Sam
Dark chocolate makes me smile, Rain makes me chillax, Travel makes me happy. For Linh, it's Strawberries, Anthony Bourdain, and our little guys, Dash and Max.
Dash is 5. He's got big eyes and an open heart. Max is 2. He's a clown and has an awesome laugh. They've travelled extensively but their favorite part of any trip is the shuttle from the parking garage to the airport.
I run a travel business that customizes programs to Asia, Africa and Latin America for educational institutions. I also lead walking tours in our neighborhood once in a while. I also used to be the Community Manager for Airbnb in Portland.
