The Space

1 bedroom available in a large 4 bedroom artists loft.

The apt:
The loft is huge* and sunny. The bedroom is large with a loft on the top that is great for either storage, as a hangout nook or we can arrange an air-mattress as a second bed. The room comes with a dresser and huge luxurious king size bed. The apartment is decorated with stylish and fun furniture and is sunny.
* (please do note it is considered a very large space for New York standards which could be relative depending on where you are from.)

The area:
The neighborhood is great - creative and lively. We are a block from the Morgan stop on the L train and 15 minutes to union square. It takes about 5 minutes on the train to Bedford ave and 20-30 minutes to walk. We are next door to the pizza place Roberta's, Momo - a great sushi place, 2 healthy grocery stores and a bunch of fun bars. It has been filmed a lot in the TV show Girls and has recently been written up as the up and coming New York neighborhood. But please do note it is an up and coming area and not as fully developed as other areas of NYC - meaning a balance of very industrial mixed in with many amazing restaurants, art galleries, and shops. We LOVE it but if you do have further questions please (website hidden) Robertas Pizza and Bushwick New York to get a feel for the area.

The roommates-
October- May
2 girls in their 20's - one actress, ( one working in advertising (plus one cat - Truffle)
There are 4 rooms total and the other room is rented out as well on airbnb. I cannot guarantee who will be there but we do vet our guests carefully and so far have had good luck. We do not take more than two guests per room.

The roommates June - September
3 girls in their 20's - one actress, one fashion startup founder, one working in advertising (plus two cats - Truffle and Simba and a small dog Peanut)

Animals of yours are welcome as well.

Large roof with beautiful view - on nice nights you can find small parties and other neighbors hanging out up there.
Backyard - large backyard shared by the building, (Please note this is a "New York" yard - meaning it does not have grass but is a cement courtyard.
Washer and dryer in basement of the building.

Things to note in advance:
- there is one bathroom for the apartment - that has not posed any problems so far but do be aware
- as stated above if you are here October-May there are 2 roommates living here and another 1-2 airbnb guest(s)

We also have another room available here for $70 a night but with a large wall of windows.

  • Stayed at Liz's apartment for a couple of days, Liz wasn't around but her flatmates Janice and another one whose name I can't remember were both nice and accommodating. The apartment itself is nice and warm in the freezing winter and the location is great.

  • Our experience with Liz's place was outstanding. Liz was extremely accommodating and helpful with the booking and organising (especially as we booked it so last minute) which made getting there and settling in very easy. The room was quite big, had a beautiful loft and comfy pillows. We really enjoyed our stay here as the other housemates were so friendly! The facilities in this place were great as well - a clean kitchen and bathroom as well as a beautiful open living area.
We also had alot of fun playing with the adorable house cat Truffles!
We loved staying in the Bushwick area and would definitely recommend this place to any young travellers. There was lots to do locally and the train to manhatten was a 2 minute walk from the loft.
Thank you Liz for making our NYC experience so incredible!!!

  • Although we never met Liz she was easily contactable and provided us with plenty of useful information prior to our visit. The apartment is located in an area that is easily accessible to the subway which made is easier to get around. Overall the apartment was generally clean and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

  • Sheets were dirty and location was not really central to anything. We never met Liz but her roommate Janice was nice.

    Response from Liz:

Hi Kate, I am sorry you had a bad time. The sheets were cleaned before you got there, but if you ahd let any of us know you did not feel they were clean enough we would have rewashed them. We use all organic and natural cleaning supplies and would have been happy to use traditional detergent if you had informed us you wanted them cleaner. Regarding the area - if you are looking for something touristy- this is not the area. I am sorry you missed the cafes, bars, art galleries and up and coming designer shops in the area. The area is very artistic and filled with many local NYC favorites and is a very desired area for young creative types. If this is not your scene and you were hoping for a more mainstream and tourist experience I can understand your disappointment. I hope anyone reading their review willread the other reviews regarding the neighborhood and will (website hidden) Bushwick to get a feel for the neighborhood.

  • Me and my friend stayed at Liz' apartment a few days and had a good time! We felt comfortable and Liz and everyone else we met at the apartment were nice and always helpful if we had questions.
    No complaints!

    Thanks for the great stay!
    We would definitely come back

  • We stayed 2 nights at Liz's. The bed was very comfortable. The loft, very nice! We enjoyed the neighbourhood. I suggest walking around, you will find tones of beautiful graffitis. An outdoor museum.
We celebrated Halloween in Bushwick, found lovely bars and people.

    A perfect stay!

  • The location of this apartment is perfect - right next to the L line, it's in a cool neighbourhood, safe to walk around with lots to see and do. Liz was also really responsive, communication was a breeze and she emailed a list of favourite bars and restaurants within walking distance of the apartment.
As far as the apartment it's self, we wouldn't recommend this to anyone wanting a nice area to hang out and relax in or who has particularly high standards of cleanliness. It's the perfect cheap accommodation for those wanting a bed and hot shower right in the heart of a cool neighbourhood!

  • Liz was a wonderful and friendly host. She met me at the apartment and helped me carry my huge, heavy bag up the 3 flights of stairs. We chatted briefly about some good restaurants in the neighborhood, and she told me she'd be in the area for the next few days and not to hesitate to contact her with questions or needs.

My boyfriend and I spent most of our time outside of the apartment, and the location could honestly not be any better for getting around town. It is literally a block and a half away from the L train, which goes into Manhattan and provides very easy access to all parts of the city.

We had a few issues with cleanliness, but Liz was very attentive and helped us resolve these things promptly and without question. As this is a big building with a younger crowd, there was some very loud, bassy music playing into the wee hours of the morning Friday and Saturday night that kept us up later than we'd wished.

All of that being said, this apartment was perfect for my boyfriend's and my needs this trip. We wanted something close to the subway in this neighborhood, that was cheap and cozy. The bed was very comfy - it was hard to get up to explore in the mornings! If I were looking for a quiet, spotless respite for work or school travel, I'd probably look elsewhere. However, that's not what I needed this time, so the loft worked perfectly!

Thanks for a great stay, Liz! :)

    Response from Liz:

glad I could help!! Yes I think you summed up the atmosphere perfectly and what would make a person either love staying here or not have such a great time. It is quieter on the weekdays but if you ARE looking for a quiet escape instead (email hidden)ly young neighborhood and hip fun building I agree - this is probably not for you. and glad you both enjoyed your stay!!

  • For the price and location this is a great deal. We stayed 2 nights, found the bed very comfortable and the hosts friendly and accommodating. Right near the L train - unfortunately the weekend we were there it wasn't running :( though the JMZ is also within walking distance - and across from a great restaurant, with other amenities within a couples of blocks. Thanks!!
