A rustic cottage overlooking the greatest sea-view in the world. It is built for escape, retreat, and healing. This two bedroom “ ABSOLUTELY NO FRILLS” haven is perfect for writers, artists, honeymooners, small groups and families or anyone looking for a little bit of rest and recharge.

This perfectly imperfect cottage is a true representation of island life's simple pleasures.

The space

The house comes fully furnished with two full bedrooms, a full bath, a kitchen and intimate living area. Its fully self-sufficient. The kitchen comes with microwave, oven and all other additional appliances to make the holiday transition that much easier. The bathroom has a full upright shower. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with closet space. The additional bedroom has two single beds with additional drawer space. The cottage has a beautiful balcony that overlooks Skeete’s Bay below - I recommend it as the perfect place to take your morning coffee.

The space itself is serene, after two or three days the outside world falls away and you can enjoy the still quiet and care that Faraway Cottage is known for.

Guest access

Full access offered to the entire space

Interaction with guests

I like to take personal care of all renters. I collect you from the airport and drop you back for your flight at your request. I also provide a local cell phone, that you can make calls from during your stay if requested. Additionally, I provide linen and towel sets and laundry services at request.

Other things to note

The cottage is walking distance from Culpepper island - the only naturally occurring island off the coast of Barbados. You can even swim to it in low tide (if you are a competent swimmer).

Mike is very nice, friendly and easy going. He greeted us at the airport, showed us around (gas station, grocery store, etc.) and made sure we were all set up at the cottage. He checked on us a few times to make sure we had everything we needed and brought a few local treats, which was incredibly nice of him! We stayed in Barbados for 10 days and really enjoyed our time there. The Faraway Cottage is in a very pleasant location, secluded enough to give you privacy and enjoy some quiet moments and beautiful views of Skeete’s Bay right from the patio, but within a short drive to local sightseeing spots and the famous Soup Bowl surf spot if you’re a surfer. It was only two of us staying at the cottage so we found the place pretty spacious; it has two small bedrooms (one with a queen size bed) and another room has two full beds, bathroom, kitchen, and a living room area. It is quiet old but has a charming feel to it. The patio is the best part! The neighborhood is pretty quiet, and we felt safe the whole time. Thanks for your hospitality, Mike! We hope to be back in the future. Best regards, Myles and Lena

My Husband, Greg, and I are officially nominating Michael for a superhost status. He was so helpful, accommodating, and communicative. Even though we rented a car, he met us at the airport, waited for us while we got our car, then led us to the supermarket to get some basics before leading us to the house. He provided us with a map and pointed out all the best points of interest, along with it's history and even left us with a local cell phone to use during our stay. He checked in with us via the cell phone he provided just once to make sure everything was ok and when we called him with questions, he was always available. The house was so cute, very clean, wonderfully simple, and if I ever have a beach house, it's going to look like that. There is no A/C but with the wonderful ocean breeze, you won't miss it for a second. You can see the gorgeous view from most rooms in the house and the deck is the front and center seat, rain or shine. The beach closest in view is a 2 minute drive/15 minute walk away and provides a great place to bask in the sun and play in the waves. The kitchen was very useful for our stay as we cooked breakfast every morning and all the necessary utensils were available, including a couple of essentials we hadn't picked up at the market. Will definitely be recommending Michael and his place to anyone looking for a low-key, low-cost, but priceless view in Barbados.

The view at the cottage never gets old. It is absolutely incredible and gives you a clear look at the sunrise in the morning and the moon at night. The cottage itself is a bit rustic but has everything you need. It's a great break from crowded resorts and gives you a look into local life. The neighborhood is safe and friendly and the beach is a short walk away. However, renting a car is a must because most attractions and cities are about 20 minutes away by car. Michael was the perfect host. He communicated everything clearly and was always available and helpful. He left food for us in the fridge, gave us recommendations for sightseeing, and offered us rides to and from the airport and car rentals. Our week at the cottage could not have gone better!

Cute, private cottage with great view. Michael is very attentive, patient and accommodating. He goes out of his way to help. The cottage has everything you need for your stay. Nice breeze kept us cool. Strangely the mosquitoes were no problem at all up until our very last day then they came out with a vengeance. I HIGHLY recommend getting a GPS along with your rental car. Made our lives so much easier! Plan for major traffic jams on the west side of the island during weekday mornings and evenings.

Michael is a great host with great suggestions and knowledge of the area. Faraway Cottage has truly the best view in Barbados. From your cliff top perch, you look out over the Atlantic to see whales (if you're lucky) East Point lighthouse and more. The cottage was the perfect size for us. We loved sitting on the porch and looking out at the sea, and we loved preparing meals in the small, but efficient kitchen. My only suggestion: burn the mosquito coils which Michael provides East Point Bar and Grill is the closest restaurant, about 10 minutes. It's by the lighthouse and only open Thursday through Saturday. It's worth trying for the barbequed ribs and the special souse and pudding on Saturdays. The grocery is about 15 minutes away and it's a good one . Michael guided us to it when we arrived. It's a great base for exploring the island: Bath, Batheba, Bottom, and other beaches, Shark Hole, Codrington College, and Cutters of Barbados Deli in Cranes Beach, all of which are nearby and to all of which Michael can direct you. You'll love Faraway Cottage!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Faraway Cottage! Michael was a great host and made sure we had everyone we needed. It was very cool to stay a bit off the beaten path. We had coffee and breakfast on the porch every morning, and you can't beat the view. One thing I will say--the mosquitos here are no joke! Even with loads of bug spray and mosquito nets to sleep under, I got eaten alive!! Other than that, the trip was perfect and exactly what we needed.

We were seeking a quaint location and we got it. Breathtaking view, remote but not terribly out of the way from a market and the conveniences of a small town. Michael is an excellent host! The best we've had. He will answer any question you have and gives excellent tips. I cannot speak highly enough of the cottage, view, and host. I will recommend Faraway to my friends and anyone who says they're headed to Barbados.
