SUMMARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL THIS:

BEAUTIFUL / LIGHT / SAFE / CENTRALLY LOCATED / ELEVATOR / DOORMAN / DOUBLE BED + QUEEN AIR BED / WiFi + PREMIUM CABLE / 32" FLAT SCREEN / TINY KITCHEN / SHEETS + TOWELS /ACCOMMODATES 2 (3 UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES)

This apartment was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's "Small, Cool 2010" design contest

Beautiful and light one bedroom next door to the U.N. in Midtown East. On the fifth floor of a historic elevator building with 24 hour doorman.

Beautifully decorated, the apartment features a double bed in the bedroom, plus a queen airbed that can be brought into service if needed. It sleeps two very comfortably, three under certain circumstances.

There is a walk-in closet with plenty of hanging space, plus a small chest of drawers for your use. A hair dryer, travel iron, and umbrella are available. Please bring your own soap and toiletries.

In the living room there is a large, comfortable couch for lounging or TV watching, a small writing table (can be used as a bar for entertaining), a reading chair by the window and a dining table, too. A bookshelf holds a small, diverse collection of books, and I have maps of the city and subway system for you to borrow. There is also an iPhone/iPod charger/player.

There is an A/C unit, or you can open the windows in nice weather. Warning: this is New York City -- when the windows are open, it is not particularly quiet!

This is a non-smoking apartment.

High speed internet, 32" flat screen TV, premium cable channels, DVD player and small library of movies.

Small kitchen mainly suitable for warming up food and fixing drinks. Please look at the picture and judge for yourself whether it will fit your needs if you want to cook a lot -- definitely not made for elaborate cooking. All the basics are there: small stove, oven and fridge, toaster oven and microwave, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Also, ice bucket, bar tools and wine glasses for entertaining or quiet evenings with a drink.

Fresh, clean sheets and plenty of towels are provided, and there are 6 pillows there, some feather/down and some synthetic. Laundry facilities are in the building, or your laundry can be done for you for an added fee.

There is a 24 hour convenience store directly across the street as well as around the corner. Within two blocks you will find: a 24 hour drug store, cafe/bakery, dry cleaner, fruit stand, two health food stores, gourmet supermarket, bank, organic hair salon, post office, and much, much more.

There are many wonderful restaurants and take out places within a block, and TONS within 3 blocks.

From the building it is a 6 minute walk to Grand Central, where you can get a subway to almost anywhere. A bus stop is a 2 minute walk in either direction. It's super safe and secure, with a 24 hour doorman, security cameras within the building. There also happens to be a lot of extra security along the street because of proximity to the U.N., but even without all that, it's simply a nice, safe area (though I think almost all of Manhattan is nice and safe).

  • Wonderfully relaxing stay in central location. Andrea was very responsive: One of the light bulbs had blown and she had it replaced within the hour. Loved the fact that she had left orange juice and yoghurt for me in the fridge :) Highly recommended.

  • I didn't actually end up staying in the apartment pictured. Andrea swapped me into another (also on AirBNB) that reads about the same. That one was a cosy apartment, very close to UN HQ. Andrea's friend who passed me the key provided full information on apartment. I did appreciate the orange juice and yoghurt in the fridge for me on arrival!

  • Andrea was very kind and helpful.
Her apartment was clean, spacious and in a perfect and very safe feeling location.
Also - I hosted a dinner for 35 colleagues in the restaurant downstairs - very good service and food.
    I would recommend Andreas Appartment.

  • Andrea's place is truly special... a beautiful haven right in the heart of it all in Manhattan. Andrea has carefully chosen every detail in the apartment to create a wonderful ambiance and energy in her place. Each day, we would return from our NYC explorations to the quiet and relaxing space that Andrea has created. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable. We loved our stay and would highly recommend Gracious to everyone looking for a unique and beautiful experience in NYC.

  • Had a great stay. The apartment was exactly as described. Very comfortable and in a good location. There was milk, juice and beer in the fridge as well as a set of snacks.

    I'd definitely stay here again!

  • Andrea's place was a great home base for our trip to New York. Apartment was as pictured and just a few minutes walk to Grande Central for subway. Andrea was away when we arrived but her friend Wendy was able to make arrangements for our check in. We were there during the UN general assembly so there was additional security but Andrea had warned us about it prior and we had a letter so we had no issues getting through the checkpoints. Overall a great apartment in an amazing city! Highly recommend!

  • We stayed in Andrea's apartment for our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time. The apartment was very clean and spacious and looks exactly as on the photos. Andrea was a great host! Very kind and open and the communication was clear and fast. The location is great! Willem and Saskia

About
I am a 50-something design enthusiast and live part-time in New York so I can be near my three grown kids. When I'm not in NY, I rent out my place on airbnb. I think this site is great and I've met some very wonderful people this way. I love decorating on a shoestring, combining thrift shop finds with newer pieces. In fact, I was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool 2010 Contest, and againr in Small, Cool 2012. I hope you will love New York as much as I do! I welcome all and am gay-friendly.
