Beautiful and light one bedroom next door to the U.N. in Midtown East. On the fifth floor of a historic elevator building with 24 hour doorman.
Beautifully decorated, the apartment features a double bed in the bedroom, plus a queen airbed that can be brought into service if needed. It sleeps two very comfortably, three under certain circumstances.
There is a walk-in closet with plenty of hanging space, plus a small chest of drawers for your use. A hair dryer, travel iron, and umbrella are available. Please bring your own soap and toiletries.
In the living room there is a large, comfortable couch for lounging or TV watching, a small writing table (can be used as a bar for entertaining), a reading chair by the window and a dining table, too. A bookshelf holds a small, diverse collection of books, and I have maps of the city and subway system for you to borrow. There is also an iPhone/iPod charger/player.
There is an A/C unit, or you can open the windows in nice weather. Warning: this is New York City -- when the windows are open, it is not particularly quiet!
This is a non-smoking apartment.
High speed internet, 32" flat screen TV, premium cable channels, DVD player and small library of movies.
Small kitchen mainly suitable for warming up food and fixing drinks. Please look at the picture and judge for yourself whether it will fit your needs if you want to cook a lot -- definitely not made for elaborate cooking. All the basics are there: small stove, oven and fridge, toaster oven and microwave, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Also, ice bucket, bar tools and wine glasses for entertaining or quiet evenings with a drink.
Fresh, clean sheets and plenty of towels are provided, and there are 6 pillows there, some feather/down and some synthetic. Laundry facilities are in the building, or your laundry can be done for you for an added fee.
There is a 24 hour convenience store directly across the street as well as around the corner. Within two blocks you will find: a 24 hour drug store, cafe/bakery, dry cleaner, fruit stand, two health food stores, gourmet supermarket, bank, organic hair salon, post office, and much, much more.
There are many wonderful restaurants and take out places within a block, and TONS within 3 blocks.
From the building it is a 6 minute walk to Grand Central, where you can get a subway to almost anywhere. A bus stop is a 2 minute walk in either direction. It's super safe and secure, with a 24 hour doorman, security cameras within the building. There also happens to be a lot of extra security along the street because of proximity to the U.N., but even without all that, it's simply a nice, safe area (though I think almost all of Manhattan is nice and safe).

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our first Airbnb experience at this beautiful apartment situated in a great location. Andrea generously left a few groceries to get us started as we settled in. The apartment was quiet overall, in a well maintained building with tons of great restaurants walking distance or a short cab ride away. In short, we had a wonderful stay and will likely reach out to Andrea to stay here again the next time we are in NYC.
It is a great experience to spend time in this room which is beautiful, clean and spacious. The location is ideal for tourists and we do enjoy it. The owner is very helpful providing daily necessities and we would book this room again if we come to New York next time
While I never met Andrea, she was a gracious host. Her friend Wendy met me at the apartment & gave me the basic run down of everything, she was very helpful & always readily available, if needed.
The location is ideal in midtown & very safe with the UN just a block away (lots of police around), plus there is the doorman who keeps an eye on everything.
There is a great Amish market a block away. The water pressure in shower was perfect-just watch you don't slip.
The street noise diminishes at night & even though I am a light sleeper, I was able to get used to it. However, the upstairs neighbors keep strange hours & vacuumed at 1 AM?!
The apartment is ideal for one to two people. It has the basic necessities.
The building is very old & the windows drafty so it may be an issue if very cold out or very hot although the heater is right under the window along with the ac.
Overall, a good first airbnb experience.
We enjoyed our 9 night stay at Andrea's apartment. The apartment is just as it appears in the pictures. Very welcoming. We felt very comfortable walking in this area at all times of the day and night. Andrea kindly left a few welcome supplies for us to use when we first arrived and a list of useful addresses of various stores in the area that we may need whilst staying there. Whilst no-one wants to have a problem whilst on holiday , we did have an issue with the electricity shorting out in one outlet in the kitchenette. But we were really grateful that Andrea, who was always very easy to contact and very helpful, addressed this problem very quickly and it was fixed in no time at all.
The place has a great location and is clean and safe. We got exactly what we were looking for at a very reasonable price. We would certainly consider using it again!
We had a wonderful stay at this little well fitted out homely apartment in a very safe part of town.
Andrea's apartment was beautifully decorated and very spacious. My experience from booking to check out was very easy and although Andrea was not in the city she had a friend stop by to introduce herself and explain a couple of things when I arrived. I'm a regular visitor to nyc but it was nice to know there was someone close by if anything was needed. Andrea was also easily contactable on email during my stay. The location is perfect for access all over the city and I would definitely stay there again.

About the Host, Andrea
I am a 50-something design enthusiast and live part-time in New York so I can be near my three grown kids. When I'm not in NY, I rent out my place on airbnb. I think this site is great and I've met some very wonderful people this way.
I love decorating on a shoestring, combining thrift shop finds with newer pieces. In fact, I was a finalist in Apartment Therapy's Small, Cool 2010 Contest, and againr in Small, Cool 2012.
I hope you will love New York as much as I do! I welcome all and am gay-friendly.
