About This Listing
A gorgeous restful retreat in a modern-style high-ceiling home surrounded by trees as far as the eye can see. Enjoy an open floor plan, moon patio & chef's kitchen in a 3 bdrm home tucked in the hills. With easy access to amenities & the beach.
This listing is to rent a spacious, secluded "treehouse" South of the Blvd. in Woodland Hills, CA (the Woodland Hills/Warner Center neighborhood). We call it the "treehouse" because of its beautiful view of trees from every window (Please note: It's NOT actually built on a tree. It is built into the hillside and surrounded by trees).
The home combines the best of a comfy, modern interior with a rustic setting in the hills offering fabulous tree views from every room. It has sweeping HIGH ceilings, and a modern deco style. This home has THREE bedrooms, 2.5 baths for a total of 2000 sq. ft. It boasts an open floor plan and has been recently remodeled, with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a "real" wood-burning fireplace and wood floors throughout. There is a massage chair in the Living Room for your relaxation. The patio on the main floor has a grill, and is a favorite morning coffee spot, or dining-by-moonlight space as you gaze out at the trees and stars.
Rooms: The bedrooms are all on the lower level. The Master Bedroom (red wall in pics) is large and majestic, with a tree-top view from its window. It has a KING bed and an attached bathroom. The Guest Bedroom (mango accent wall in the pictures) has its own small deck and private entrance. The guest room has a QUEEN bed, dresser, closet and TV. The Study (the room with the blue wall in the pictures) has a DOUBLE futon bed. The Guest Room and Study have access to the second full bathroom, which sports a soaking tub. There is also additional sleeping space in the home - the couch in the Living Room opens out into a queen size bed.
Location! Location! Location! Close to legendary Topanga Canyon, with easy access to the beach, and Malibu, the home would be a great writer's retreat, as it is secluded, with a patio that offers a refreshing treetop view. It is tucked away in the hills for complete privacy. And yet it is just 5 minutes to Ventura Blvd - where Whole Foods, Sprouts and Trader Joe's lie within a couple of blocks in either direction. Ventura also has a lot of restaurants and cafes and the movie theater is just another 5 minutes north. Warner Center is 7-8 mins away. If you go 5 mins west from the "treehouse," you reach Topanga Cyn Road which leads to nearby trails, hikes and State Parks. And if it is the ocean you seek, then a scenic drive through Topanga Cyn will have you there in 22 mins from the house.
- Free high-speed WiFi
- Cable (including HBO and Showtime).
- Boogie Boards: There are also a couple of boogie boards you can borrow for the beach.
- Fresh towels and sheets are provided for all guests.
Lived in: I should add that this is a house I live in much of the time. I travel a lot and have other flexibility, so if it shows available on the calendar, it IS available. But unlike other rental properties that are de-personalized and just kept aside for rent - this one will have the lived in, albeit a very neat and immaculate feel. Meaning, there are pictures on the wall, books on the bookshelves, condiments in the fridge, etc. Guests usually find it easier as they don't have to buy things like sugar/ salt and pepper/ ketchup/olive oil just for a short trip. You also get to enjoy a kitchen with high end appliances, many All-Clad/Calphalon pans with mostly Crate-and-Barrel or West Elm cutlery and crockery.
Please note: The home is in the hills. So you definitely need your own car. This is an LGBTQ-friendly space. This home is NOT childproof. So if you have young children, this may not be the best choice.
I like to rent the home for 3 nights and above. I have put a 2 night minimum - but will probably charge a slightly higher rate if it is for 2 nights only. If you are interested in renting for a week and above, I can offer a slightly discounted rate ($1640 per week during standard times of the year, and $1800 per week during peak holidays, etc.).
Woodland Hills is set just through Topanga Canyon from the beach. It takes 22 minutes from the house to Topanga State Beach. If you go 5-10 mins North from the house, you have a plethora of restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, malls. Yet, the house itself is in the hills so it becomes an accessible, yet very restful retreat.
You need a car to access the house. There is street parking for 2 cars right by the house.
If you are traveling with heavy bags and want to get them to the bedroom level (which is the downstairs level from the entrance) in the easiest way, please use the side gate.
The side gate is on the right side of the house (if you are facing the house). There are concrete steps leading down to the side gate, where there is a small patio and entrance to the guest room (yellow room). Please refer to the 2nd last picture on the listing to see the stairs.
These steps are open, so you don't damage the walls inside the house, and they are fewer than the ones inside. It is truly the easiest way to take things downstairs.
You can enter through the main door, then go downstairs and open the sliding door from inside.
But please use the outside stairs to get heavy bags down - as that protects my floors, and walls, and your security deposit. Many thanks!!
Please be gentle with the house.
There are wood floors throughout the house, so make sure that any liquid spills are wiped up immediately.
There will be an information folder for you on your arrival. But you can also feel free to call or text me with any questions you have during your stay.
The experience here is always superb! I stay here EVERY chance I get when I come to the area and I look forward to more. Sheena is very accommodating and communicative, and her place is always lovely, clean, and spacious.
My family and I had a great stay at Sheena's home.
When we entered the house, one of the first words out of our mouths was, "Wow!" The spacious main floor was bright and welcoming, thanks to the sun streaming in from the windows around the house. The house looks just like the photos in the listing. It was clean, tidy, and organized.
We really enjoyed staying in the Woodland Hills area. There are lots of stores (Target, Trader Joe's) and eateries (In n Out) nearby. It was really easy and convenient to buy supplies or take-out food for a meal at home. The only thing I'd note is if you plan to go to Disneyland, we found that due to traffic, it takes a while to get there from Woodland Hills (approximately 2 hours).
I enjoyed coordinating our stay with Sheena. Her instructions are clear and detailed. I really appreciated how organized and reliable Sheena is.
The treehouse was perfect. Just secluded enough to be able to relax and close enough to everything that we didn't feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. The house itself is gorgeous, warm and welcoming. The balcony is perfect for lounging and enjoying the sun/trees. Sheena was helpful and flexible, and an all around wonderful host. We loved our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.
I officially love the treehouse! Such a warm gem of a place to be when away from home. I felt well taken care of by the host, everything was clear and inviting. The house itself, with it's openness, precious plants, and splashes of vibrant color really puts one's mind at ease. It was the perfect place to unwind after a long day. The wind blowing through the trees, the stars at night on the patio, a nice quiet walk through the hills of the neighborhood, and my new favorite massage chair! Not to mention probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Definitely helped when away from my family. I hope I am fortunate enough to return next time I'm in LA. Thanks Sheena, it truly was such a special place to stay. :)
This was our 2nd stay at this house and we couldn't have been any happier. The house is beautiful and in great condition. The location is perfect. Sheena is very hospitable and made sure all of our questions were answered. Our entire experience was amazing. look forward to staying here again in the future.
We loved the stay at Sheena's treehouse. The host made us feel welcome (the dinner table set and wine ready!) and the house was beautiful, clean and well maintained. The location is perfect..close to the beaches and the Topanga state park. It is a short 20 minute drive to the park, and you have multiple trails to chose from.
The neighborhood is nice and quite and we had a fun time just lounging in the house or in the patio in the evenings. Our 6 days stay here turned out the right amount of relaxing with some beach fun and hiking thrown in.
Sheena herself was very nice, she responded quickly to our questions. Thanks Sheena for such a lovely experience.
Sheena's home was incredibly lovely and the perfect place for my childhood friends and I to stay and catch up before a wedding. Sheena was very easy to get in contact with and the whole experience was smooth--highly recommended!

About the Host, Sheena
I am a professor at a nearby university. I love living in the "treehouse" because it is peaceful and a lovely space in which to write, read and research. I also love boogie boarding at the beach, which is a scenic 22 minute drive through magical and green Topanga Canyon. I enjoy hosting, as a way to share this beautiful space with people. My energy is calm and easy-going. I strive to balance being welcoming and warm to guests, but also respectful of the guest's privacy while they are here. The treehouse has great energy. I feel very lucky to live here as well as share it with people.
