The Space

This listing is to rent a spacious, secluded "treehouse" South of the Blvd. in Woodland Hills, CA (the Woodland Hills/Warner Center neighborhood). We call it the "treehouse" because of its beautiful view of trees from every window (Please note: It's NOT actually built on a tree. It is built into the hillside and surrounded by trees).

The home combines the best of a comfy, modern interior with a rustic setting in the hills offering fabulous tree views from every room. It has sweeping high ceilings, and a modern deco style. This home has three bedrooms, 2.5 baths for a total of 2000 sq. ft. It boasts an open floor plan and has been recently remodeled, with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a "real" wood-burning fireplace and wood floors throughout. There is a massage chair in the Living Room for your relaxation. The patio on the main floor has a grill, and is a favorite morning coffee spot, or dining-by-moonlight space as you gaze out at the trees and stars.

Rooms: The bedrooms are all on the lower level. The master bedroom (red wall in pics) is large and majestic, with a tree-top view from its window. It has a KING bed and an attached bathroom. The guest bedroom (mango accent wall in the pictures) has its own small deck and private entrance. The guest room has a QUEEN bed, dresser, closet and TV. The Study (the room with the blue wall in the pictures) has a DOUBLE futon bed. The Guest Room and Study have access to the second full bathroom, which sports a soaking tub. There is also additional sleeping space in the home - the couch in the Living Room opens out into a queen size bed.

Location! Location! Location! Close to legendary Topanga Canyon, with easy access to the beach, and Malibu, the home would be a great writer's retreat, as it is secluded, with a patio that offers a refreshing treetop view. It is tucked away in the hills for complete privacy. And yet it is just 5 minutes to Ventura Blvd - where Whole Foods, Sprouts and Trader Joe's lie within a couple of blocks in either direction. Ventura also has a lot of restaurants and cafes and the movie theater is just another 5 minutes north. Warner Center is 7-8 mins away. If you go 5 mins west from the "treehouse," you reach Topanga Cyn Road which leads to nearby trails, hikes and State Parks. And if it is the ocean you seek, then a scenic drive through Topanga Cyn will have you there in 22 mins from the house.

Amenities:
- Free high-speed WiFi
- Cable (including HBO and Showtime).
- Boogie Boards: There are also a couple of boogie boards you can borrow for the beach.
- Fresh towels and sheets are provided for all guests.

Lived in: I should add that this is a house I live in much of the time. I travel a lot and have other flexibility, so if it shows available on the calendar, it IS available. But unlike other rental properties that are de-personalized and just kept aside for rent - this one will have the lived in, albeit a very neat and immaculate feel. Meaning, there are pictures on the wall, books on the bookshelves, condiments in the fridge, etc. Guests usually find it easier as they don't have to buy things like sugar/ salt and pepper/ ketchup/olive oil just for a short trip. You also get to enjoy a kitchen with high end appliances, many All-Clad/Calphalon pans with mostly Crate-and-Barrel or West Elm cutlery and crockery.

Please note: The home is in the hills. So you definitely need your own car. This is an LGBTQ-friendly space. This home is NOT childproof. So if you have young children, this may not be the best choice.

I like to rent the home for 3 nights and above. I have put a 2 night minimum - but will probably charge a slightly higher rate if it is for 2 nights only. If you are interested in renting for a week and above, I can offer a slightly discounted rate ($1700 per week during standard times of the year, and $1850 per week during peak holidays, etc.).

The Neighborhood

Woodland Hills is set just through Topanga Canyon from the beach. It takes 22 minutes from the house to Topanga State Beach. If you go 5-10 mins North from the house, you have a plethora of restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, malls. Yet, the house itself is in the hills so it becomes an accessible, yet very restful retreat.

Getting around

You need a car to access the house. There is street parking for 2 cars right by the house.

Other Things to Note

HEAVY BAGS:
If you are traveling with heavy bags and want to get them to the bedroom level (which is the downstairs level from the entrance) in the easiest way, please use the side gate.

The side gate is on the right side of the house (if you are facing the house). There are concrete steps leading down to the side gate, where there is a small patio and entrance to the guest room (yellow room). Please refer to the 2nd last picture on the listing to see the stairs.

These steps are open, so you don't damage the walls inside the house, and they are fewer than the ones inside. It is truly the easiest way to take things downstairs.

You can enter through the main door, then go downstairs and open the sliding door from inside.

But please use the outside stairs to get heavy bags down - as that protects my floors, and walls, and your security deposit. Many thanks!!

We missed home already , somehow sheena make us like we are in the home . The location is good no far from outlet Camarillo also close mall ..etc and around 30 min driving to LA
The house is clean , big kitchen
If I have chance back to LA I would like to stay her treehouse again

  • Due to terrible weather on the East Coast, we were not able to make it to Sheena's beautiful place, but she was incredibly understanding about our predicament.

  • Staying at Sheena's home was an absolute treat. A few friends and I drove down to LA just after New Year's, and we couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place to spend the last few days of our holidays.

The space is modern, clean, super well equipped (especially the kitchen), and has a lot of character. The kitchen is seriously epic - I hope to have kitchen like it some day. It really was the little things though, like the Nest thermostat and the massage chair, that seemed simple but made our time in Sheena's home that much more enjoyable.

Although Sheena was abroad at the time, communicating with her was a breeze. In fact, her house manual was so thorough that I rarely had questions any questions to begin with. Overall, loved Sheena's place and couldn't recommend it more highly.

  • Sheena's house was perfect, exactly what we were looking for. The house was cool with lots of light and fresh air, beautiful views, and very convenient. We loved the open kitchen and especially the deck, where we could sit and look at the stars at night. The house was close to Malibu, near good hiking, and convenient to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and plenty of restaurants. Sheena was very responsive and easy to communicate with, we would definitely rent from her again.

  • Our Treehouse experience was wonderful. Our family spent a lovely Christmas in LA. Our 'girls' are all in their 20s and there was plenty of room to accommodate us all. The bathrooms are nicely updated. The rooms were large and light filled. The main floor was open and smelled of fresh air and a hint of the eucalyptus trees that grow throughout this private area. There is a porch balcony off the main area. It is perfect to watch the sun arrive over the hills and drink in the morning serenity that greets this quiet wooded area. The treehouse is a close drive to everything and the kitchen is well appointed for a family of foodies. I highly recommend Sheena's treehouse for your visit to LA. I will certainly be back.

  • Our stay here was absolutely wonderful! Sheena was a great host and made sure we felt welcome and at home in the house. The house itself was beautiful and located in a great area. We loved how easy it was to get around.
The stay here was the best boarding experience we've had in our travels. I highly recommend staying here, and I plan on doing the same again in the future. Thanks Sheena!!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Sheena's superb castle in the hills - the house is gorgeous, spacious, modern, comfortable and quiet (also the kitchen is out-of-this-world if you like to cook). Sheena was a gracious, engaging, yet non-intrusive host who went out of her to make me feel comfortable and welcome! I highly recommend Sheena's castle, esp. if you need a quiet space to work during the day and/or rest in the evening after a long day!

  • Sheena was an amazing host and was very easy to work with. Her house was absolutely beautiful and well equipped. We enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony every morning and watching the humming birds buzz around. We will definitely stay here again if we are ever in California and I highly recommend this house to anyone. The location is beautiful and close to amenities such as restaurants and grocery stores. You will need a car to get around if you want to see the L.A. sights and beaches. It is about a 20-30 minute drive to L.A. I recommend driving through Topanga Canyon an your way to Malibu. It was stunning.

  • We had a great time at Sheena's house. It was better than we expected! Open, modern space that's very restful and relaxing. Would love to stay there again. Woodland Hills area also has a lot of restaurants and amenities.

About
I am a professor at a nearby university. I love living in the "treehouse" because it is peaceful and a lovely space in which to write, read and research. I enjoy hosting, as a way to share this beautiful space with people. My energy is calm and easy-going. I strive to balance being welcoming and warm to guests, but also respectful of the guest's privacy while they are here. The treehouse has great energy. I feel lucky to live here as well as share it with people.
