The space

This roomy 1BR/1BA* flat is located just across the street from Golden Gate Park, with views into the park. It has a kitchen, living room, and dining room, with all the amenities to let you prepare your own meals. We also allow dogs.

There is a fold-out couch that you can use to sleep up to two more people, and bedding is provided.

It is very close to all the museums in the park - less than a 10 minute bus ride to the De Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences, and the bus stop is half a block from the flat. If you are traveling with a dog, there is a great dog park just a few minutes walk from the flat. If you are a foodie, delicious authentic Asian restaurants (Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese) and a shopping street with one of the last neighborhood theatres in SF are only 2 blocks away. We are about 10 short blocks away from Ocean Beach, so this is a great location if you like swimming, surfing, or just long walks on the beach. If you want to enjoy a romantic dinner by the beach, the Beach Chalet Brewery is just a 5 minute drive or a 7 minute bus ride, and the Cliff House is just a 3 minute drive or 13 minute bus ride. If you like outdoor activities, you will enjoy walking through Lands End which is also close to our flat. Runners and walkers will love the extensive running trails throughout the park, and there is the largest frisbee golf course west of Sacramento just a 5 minute walk away. The Golden Gate Park Senior Center is right across the street, and free Tai Chi classes meet each weekend morning at Spreckels Lake, just one block from the flat. Lots of street parking nearby.

*There is a second bedroom which is off limits (it is used for storage)

The Outer Richmond is a fabulous quiet neighborhood that adjoins Golden Gate Park. Two blocks away is the historic Balboa Theatre along with a fabulous shopping street. No need for a car if you are staying here, you can easily get around by walking or by bus. It is very safe and very quiet, and just a few minutes walk or bus ride from Ocean Beach, Lands End, and other San Francisco landmarks.

The #5 and #5L bus stops at the corner of the block, and the #18 and #31 buses are 2 blocks away. The #38, #38L, and #38AX bus is 4 blocks away. Parking is almost always available on the street.

It is about a $45 cabride from SFO, or less if you take the Super Shuttle.

There is a locked front gate, so you can leave bicycles, leashes, etc. in the entrance area, and feel comfortable that they will be reasonably safe. The flat has its own private entrance, so there aren't any other people coming in and out of the building.

If you plan to stay a week or longer, we allow use of the in-house washer and dryer if you get permission of the owner (to make sure that you don't have conflicting wash days).

Guest access

You have access to the apartment via a private entrance, along with a locked front entrance area where you can leave bicycles, leashes, etc. in the entrance area, and feel comfortable that they will be reasonably safe.

Interaction with guests

We are always available to answer questions, but we do our best to stay out of your way.

Our family stayed at David and Noriko's place for 6 weeks while I worked in SF. Our two young daughters slept on the couches that convert to beds. The place was a little bigger than we expected and it has great natural light. The #5 bus stop right outside the front door is very convenient, and it's an excellent spot for exploring Golden Gate Park. It's about 10 blocks to Ocean Beach which we took advantage of regularly. It's also a quick bus ride or longer walk to the Legion of Honor Museum and Lands End Trail which I highly recommend. It is on the foggy end of SF which usually cleared up around noon - but do know if you're traveling east to towards downtown there is a good chance it will be sunny and warmer when you get there. The Historic Balboa Theatre is only two blocks away and is a fun throwback if you have time for a movie. Spreckels Lake across the street hosts model sailboat and steamboat races on the weekends which are pretty neat. Overall, we had a great experience and David and Noriko were excellent hosts.

David's place is a great budget-minded option just across the street from the Golden Gate Park. Everything were very clean and comfortable. Smart heating was a nice feature for chilly San Fran nights. The host were very nice to prepare an additional comfy bed to the one already in the bedroom. We could not ask for more at this rate. Totally satisfied and would definitely recommend to anyone.

right across Golden Gate Park, the place is quite dated but clean. The neighborhood's places to eat not the best, Safeway relatively close by opens 24h. Backyard not accesible thru apartment, owners live upstairs.

Good sized apartment in a nice residential neighborhood across from Golden Gate park yet within walking distance of cafes and restaurants. The apartment had pretty much everything we needed--kitchen supplies, stove, oven, toaster, microwave, bath towels. We are light sleepers and woke up occasionally at odd hours to loud walking and running from the floor above. Road noise wasn't an issue though. The bed in the bedroom sags and we are lightweight. Although the back yard is shown in the photos, it was off limits. Luckily there are grassy areas across the street as we had our dog with us. Overall it was a nice stay. Check-in and out was easy thanks to David.

I'm a software entrepreneur and artist with a family. We come from San Francisco, but we're pretty traditional - my mom taught us to always say please and thank you, and to leave a place nicer than I found it.
