Not the best and not the worst. Villa is definitely charming in its location. North ubud is the place to be tucked between rice terraces and the jungle. With that-expect roosters and bugs. Tini’s home has a nice lounge area to relax and listen to the sounds of the jungle. Howev…

Response from Tini:
Our place is a traditional home really not to compare with modern villas you can find around Ubud. It happens that our balinese staff doesn't pay attention to matching the pillow cases with the sheets (is this very important?). It's possible that there are a few (coffee) stains left on the bed cover, but we can guarantee that ALL BED LINENS goes to laundry every week. It means it's CLEAN. What we offer is definitely worth its price : for 15 USD per night, where can you find a house located five minutes away from Ubud center, with beautiful views over jungle, and yes certainly some sounds from the country life...! We will certainly follow your advice and bring some "TLC" to our beautiful SOLO house.

I rented Shakti for a month for myself and my two sons and stayed only two weeks before moving to another place. We were not very comfortable here. I can recommend this place for three days at a time only. Location is good to explore Ubud. I cannot recommend this place for anyon…

This guest was SO difficult when not impossible to satisfy.. From the very beginning, she asked for a discount, we happily granted her over 500USD LESS than the actual price, a more than CHUNKY discount, a big effort for us, right at the peak of High Season - However we mentioned that the conditions Re change of sheets, cleaning were slightly different; she agreed. Yet she kept asking for more: having a free taxi ride from the airport. Having a lower price and negociating every cent on the scooter rentals.. We feel distressed that she calls our house “run down”! Maybe she is used to California modern places…? The fact is that we DO take great care of our space, with constant maintenance because yes, Bali IS tropical AND humid, things get easily damaged. Before her check in: We had a wood worker coming FULL TIME (she mentioned she had a toddler and BECAUSE of that we invested time, energy AND money): - he installed a new safety barrier in the lounge so as to prevent any accident - he created two extra safety gates, - wooden items repaired and varnished etc - we also filled in a box with toys, books, pencils for the child We had 2 other workers as well: walls have been repainted, bathroom window frames and shelves redone. - The HOUSE KEEPERS took to the Laundry ALL bed and home linen, INCLUDING all 3 mosquito nets, 26 curtains, towels, carpets, etc Maybe the mosquito net was a bit yellowish but NOT dirty, this is NOT true, sorry. More demands: She asked us to find a baby-sitter, full time, again at a very low salary. We do quite a bit of research cause most are already taken in High Season, we discarded some we found too young, sent her 3-4 names and all data, she never contacted them ..! is this a polite attitude? Our quotes are NOT overpriced: they follow AIRBNB seasonal suggestions, this house can sleep 6 people, it is within walking distance of Ubud Royal Palace… Yet every word is critical and negative: ants? When people leave plates with food , that attracts them of course! So critical, Including “loud sounds of the creatures of the jungle”..! What to do? Such reviews damage our small family business. We are Balinese, maybe not as educated as this lady, but we welcome foreigners with an open heart, and they are happy and satisfied here: We had an American couple who staid for ONE YEAR, always with a smile, kind words and appreciation. Maybe she could meet them and learn something…? ;>)

My boyfriend and I stayed in Shakti for just under three months. The house is lovely, settled between the rice paddies and a deep canyon. It’s a unique, quirky spot that is a great break from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. The light is gorgeous, the ducks that live in the rice pa…

Although we never met in person, Tini was very accommodating. Her house is a very quirky colonial building nestled 2km outside of central Ubud (40mins walk/ 5-10mins via scooter to reach all of the main stores and shops.). The house is as pictured, with a wall of the main living …

At SHAKTI, it is very quiet, yet Balinese people have roosters and there is not much we can do about it: its part of the culture here... Many other guests who staid at Shakti say "after the 2nd night we just integrated the cocks in our sleep and it wud not disturbed us any longer at all", didn't need ear plugs ! everyone is different, and nature sounds are far nicer than trucks or roaring bikes, right? "Visitors" such as lizards are to be expected in a jungly surrounding, they are in no way dangerous. We keep the environment clean, trim the garden and avoid direct contact from trees against the walls. KITCHEN: well equipped to our understanding for short stays as this is our purpose. Mr James took Shakti on a much longer term, stil we believe there is plenty of kitchen ware, new pots etc. We came a few times to visit James and his girl friend at Shakti but they were out, we also offered to come at a time convenient for them and look for a positive response so we can finally meet!
