We are happy to point out great places to eat nearby, or provide tourist advice for other parts of California. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and my husband is from Napa. We've traveled extensively in California, the US, Europe, the Pacific Islands, China and South Africa. We know what we like when we travel, and we try to provide it.
Sacramento is the home to California's state capitol, Old Sacramento, one of the nation's best railroad museums, the California's History and Women's museum, and the Crocker Art Museum. There is a small zoo, summer theater, and several municipal golf courses, including two near our home. There is a modern mutiplex a 5-minute drive down the road. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts can also take advantage of hiking, equestrian and biking trails in the nearby Sierra foothills and along the American River parkway; whitewater raft or kayak the Sacramento or American Rivers; or enjoy beautiful Lake Tahoe, two hours to the east. To the west, is the beautiful and world-famous Napa Valley (1 hr 10 minutes), San Francisco (2 hours), and the spectacular Marin and Sonoma coastlines.
Sacramento is an ideal stopping place for those traveling from southern California to Oregon and Washington or from San Francisco to points east.
We are located 15 minutes to the northeast of downtown Sacramento (9 miles), near the junction of Interstate 80 and the Capitol City Freeway. We are a short drive from Interstate 5 and five miles north of Highway 50, making us easy to find and easy to get to. We live in an older neighborhood with established trees near a creek and within walking distance of a riparian park with a bridal/hiking trail and (in the other direction) a more suburban park.
If you are taking public transportation, we less than 2 miles from the Watt and I-80 light rail station, where you can catch the #1 bus to a stop about that is 1/2 mile from our home. It takes about 45 minutes to get to our house without a car from downtown using public transportation. However, I work downtown. Depending on my work schedule, I am happy to pick up travelers from downtown (the Amtrack and Greyhound bus stops are all a short distance from my office) or from the Watt and I-80 light rail station near my house. From the new Megabus stop at the Q Street Light Rail station, it is an easy 45 minute bus ride (get on the #82 bus at the station and get off a short 4 minute walk from our house).
If you need to rent a car, there is also an Enterprise Rental Car agency open 7 am - 6 pm M-F and Saturday mornings that is an easy 1 mile walk from our house (and they will pick you up from here).
If you don't have a car, the closest restaurants within walking distance are a sandwich shop (0.8 mile), a pizza place (0.9 mile), an "American" restaurant (1.2 miles), a Denny's coffee shop (1.2 miles), a Mexican Restaurant (1.4 miles), and an excellent vegetarian restaurant (1.5 miles). Some of these restaurants, as well as other local restaurants, will deliver.
We want you to feel secure. We (not the bank) own our home so there is no risk your reservation will be canceled due to foreclosure or landlord issues. For your safety, every room in our home has a new, functioning carbon monoxide and smoke detector. Your room comes with a guest book that contains emergency information, including an evacuation plan. We have working fire extinguishers and a fire hydrant on our property. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. Our pool and pond are separately fenced, and there is an outside phone with emergency instructions.
Please see our other listing for the private 3-room suite to view our guidebook for restaurant and other recommendations and additional photos . :-)
I had a great stay with Victoria. Everything was perfect!
Ken and Vicky were awesome hosts! Justin and I enjoyed our short stay at their home. The room is very comfortable and Ken/Vicky go out of their way to make you feel at home. Vicky's blueberry breakfast casserole was so delicious! We also really enjoyed spending time with Ken and Vicky's three pets -- Sophie, Colin, and Mulan. Best pets ever! Sophie, Colin, and Mulan are very friendly and loving animals. Thank you Ken and Vicky for hosting us and treating us so kindly. And thank you Sophie, Colin, and Mulan for keeping us company!
Me and my friend stayed one night at Victoria's place and it was the perfect stay.
Actually we booked the smaller room but Victoria gave us the bigger one for the same price! Thank you again!
Victoria and her husband gave us much information about Sacramento and many advices about places you must see.
The breakfast was very delicious and the room and the house are very clean and comfortable. The pets are amazing and very cute, especially the dogs! They were happy everytime they saw us.
We would stay there again, if we are in Sacramento! We can only recommend it!
Thank you so much Victoria, Stephen, and Ken. We had a difficult few days in Sacramento, but your house gave us a lot of comfort. Thank you for your flexibility and hospitality. Hope to see you again!
Victoria's house is a truly Victoria style whose elegancy reminds us of the novel of Pride and Prejudice. Every corner of her house is clean and well-decorated where you can feel that Victoria's enthusiasm on making this house perfect. She inspired us to invest our living environment into a fairyland. Her dogs, Sophine and Colin are cute and friendly. We enjoyed our stay at Visctoria's house and warmly recommend her to all airbnbers.
Victoria and Ken were great hosts. This was our second bed and breakfast stay. They were very accommodating and the breakfast was amazing. We were up around 4:30 every morning and breakfast was waiting for us. We really enjoyed the homemade muffins. I would definitely recommend there place. Thanks again guys.
Had a wonderful stay at Victoria's. The bed was extremely comfortable! She makes a mean apple muffin and amazing beignets but best of all was her homemade berry jam! Just a note: you must be pet friendly to stay in this place as there are two dogs and a cat, all of whom are adorable and sweet. Also a tip: she lives a mile away from the best cronuts in California!
Clean, comfortable, and quiet - all that I asked for and more. Victoria upgraded me because the guest from the night before wanted to stay on. Victoria's place was the most convenient to American River College where I was taking a licensing class at 8 AM - and needed to be there on time and ready to go. Really good value for the $. It works even better if you love animals (dogs and cat) and play piano and/or guitar. I'd stay there again and want to spend more time with Mulan the cat.
What can we say - a great welcome, a comfortable bedroom, lovely house and delicious breakfasts. Our chats with Ken and Victoria were interesting and very helpful in planning our trip and making the most of our stay. We have never owned dogs or cats; however we became good friends with Colin and Sophie. This was our second AirBnB experience and it was excellent.
We checked in late at night for our 1 night stay and Victoria was very accommodating. We had a fantastic stay, the house was beautiful and the bed was proper comfy. Also the 2 dogs were so friendly ad great fun to play with. We were also greeted by a beautiful breakfast in the morning. If you're going to Sacramento this is the place to stay.
