You are welcome to bring in your own food for lunch or dinner. The suite has a microwave and refrigerator for your exclusive use. The covered patio outside your suite has a gas barbeque with a side burner, a table and chairs, and a ceiling fan and spray misters if you would like to enjoy your meals next to our pool. The cabinet under the coffee maker has dishes and bowls, glasses, flatware, and a blender.

The suite has two entrances: in addition to the private entrance through your own keyed entrance to your rooms, there is also an entrance from the the main floor of the home via a stairway, making it convenient to access the main rooms of the house upstairs. There is a door at the top of the stairway, ensuring your privacy. If you need an earlier check in or later check out, please let us know. The suite's separate bedroom has a small desk/vanity, dresser (empty drawers) and closet with space to hang your things.

Guest Access

In addition to the pool and covered patio, the garden has a gazebo, fruit trees and a vegetable garden. It is common to see the birds that nest in our yard (finches, hummingbirds, doves, and the occassional duck and once we had pheasants) outside your window. You can nap on the daybed in the gazebo, swim in the pool in the summer, and relax in the chaise lounge or the hammock under the redwood trees. The patio, deck, gazebo, pool and yard have lights for evening and nighttime use.

Although the suite is a perfect for a couple, children and well behaved pets are also welcome to stay in the suite. We have a portable crib and high chair if you need them.

We want you to feel secure and safe. We (not the bank) own our home, so there is no risk of your reservation being cancelled due to foreclosure or landlord issues. We have a fire extinguisher and fire hydrant on the premises. We are both trained in CPR and first aid. In addition, if you have kids, our pool is separately fenced with a 4' fence for safety.

Interaction with Guests

We are experienced travelers, and we understand what other travelers require. Our goal is to provide all that and more. We can help you plan your day or the rest of your trip. Or if you prefer, you can just sit back and relax in privacy.

The Neighborhood

Sacramento is 2 hrs from San Francisco and 2 hours from Lake Tahoe. We are both natives of Northern California (my husband is from Napa and I am from the San Francisco Peninsula). In our living room, we have a basket of travel materials for Sacramento and other parts of California for your use. There is also a binder with a variety of menus both for restaurants near our house and other parts of the Sacramento area.

Getting around

We are 9 miles to the northeast of downtown Sacramento, and 20 minutes from the Sacramento airport. We are less than 2 miles from light rail, where you can catch the #1 bus to a stop 0.4 miles from our house. If we are available when you arrive or depart, we'd be happy to get you from or drop you off at the Sacramento Airport, Amtrack, or the Watt and I-80 Light Rail (email hidden)ere are two parks and a nature trail nearby. We are a short drive from recreational opportunities on the American River and the American River greenbelt. There is free street parking in front of our home.

If you are taking public transportation, we are less than 2 miles from the Watt and I-80 light rail station, where you can catch the #1 bus to a stop about that is 1/2 mile from our home. It takes about 45 minutes to get to our house without a car from downtown using public transportation. However, I work downtown. Depending on my work schedule, I am happy to pick up or drop off travelers downtown (the Amtrack or Greyhound stops are all a short distance from my office) or from the Watt and I-80 light rail station near my house. The new Megabus stop at the Q Street Light Rail station is an easy 45 bus ride (get on the #82 Regional Transit bus at the station and get off a short 4 minute walk from our house).

If you need to rent a car, there is also an Enterprise Rental Car agency open 7 am - 6 pm M-F and Saturday mornings that is an easy 1 mile walk from our house (and they will pick you up from here).

If you don't have a car, the closest restaurants within walking distance are a sandwich shop (0.8 mile), a pizza place (0.9 mile), an "American" restaurant (1.2 miles), a Denny's coffee shop (1.2 miles), a Mexican Restaurant (1.4 miles), and an excellent vegetarian restaurant (1.5 miles). Some of these restaurants, as well as other local restaurants, will deliver.

Please see our guidebook for this listing for restaurant and other recommendations.

Other Things to Note

We have a lot of guest information for you on our blog at (website hidden)).

We have two very friendly medium sized dogs and a cat. The cat is an indoor only kitty. Please keep the gate to the yard and the front door closed at all times so the cat and dogs don't get out--even if they beg. Your room has a baby gate (with a walk through gate) to keep the animals out even if you want to leave your door open.

We don't wear shoes in the house, but you can wear yours if you want.

Continental breakfast is included. Full breakfast on the weekends can be provided for a small extra charge. Please let us know in advance if you would like this option. Selections and prices are available on our blog.

We can also prepare a box picnic lunch for you with advance notice.

With advance notice and for an additional charge, I would be happy to make a family style prix fixe dinner (fancy or casual) or dessert for you and your group. Cost depends on what you would like to eat. If you would like to prepare your own meal, our kitchen is available for your use for no extra charge.

Laundry privileges can be arranged for a small charge to cover our costs. See our blog under "Useful Information."

We accept cash or Paypal for any additional charges.

We have a port-a-crib and highchair available upon request. We also have a queen-sized aerobed that can be set up in the living room of the suite upon request for older children.

  • Victoria was very accommodating to our special late arrival needs. I much appreciated that. Everything was clean and exactly as described. She had obviously taken care to think of the special little extras that we found available to us. I would recommend this location and would stay here again.

  • Victoria and her husband Ken were the best hosts anyone could ask for! First of all the description is very accurate so there were no surprises for us. My boyfriend David and I were traveling with my elderly parents and I needed to make arrangements for them to stay an extra day without us. Because of this, I wanted my parents to feel secure and welcome staying by themselves once we left. This was their first airbnb experience and Vicky and Ken came through like heroes for us! My parents loved it! The suite was perfect for all 4 of us. My parents took the full sized bed which they said was very comfortable, and we took the airbed that was set up in the living area. It takes up quite a bit of room but let me tell you, it was soooo worth it because it was incredibly comfortable! The temperature was perfect, not too cool, not too hot. There was even a fan and a heater if needed, but the temperature was great! Vicky made some delicious homemade jam, scones and apple muffins that we had for breakfast. She even put together and brought down a special breakfast tray for my parents for their last day. These wonderful people truly go out of their way to make sure their guests have everything they need, feel welcome and comfortable and all without encroaching on "our space" and private time. Thank you so much for everything, Victoria and Ken! We hope to come back soon and will definitely want to stay there if you'll have us back!

  • Ken and Vicki are great, very hospitable. We had the most relaxing stay in their private suite. The bed is so comfortable I slept better there than in my own house. And we really enjoyed the poolside nature setting. Thanks Ken and Vicki!

  • First time I tried a BnB versus a hotel. Since I typically have dinner business meetings then just go to bed, wake, shower and leave for meetings, it made sense to try this. My experience was good. Victoria and Ken were very hospitable my room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I had a private half bath but the shower was shared. Luckily I wake early and I had the shower with no contention. The only problem I had was their wireless connected but the Internet was not connected.

  • My teenage boys and myself needed a place to stay for one night in Sacramento. I was scheduled to do a mudrun at the Speedway on Saturday. We were pleased that there was a safe, homey place to stay 20 minutes form the speedway.
The bed in the bedroom was 'the' most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I went right to bed and had a great night's sleep before my run!! Victoria and Ken had an air mattress for my son to sleep on in the other room.
We had Belgium Waffles and homemade blueberry/strawberry muffins for breakfast.

  • Vicki and Ken were wonderful hosts. My boyfriend and I arrived later than expected, but Vicki still took the time to give us a tour of their house. They have a very nice home. The suite where we stayed was comfortable and clean, with convenient amenities like a mini fridge and microwave. The muffins they baked us for breakfast were delicious, and there were oranges to squeeze fresh juice. I was travelling with my small dog, and he got along great with Vicki's two dogs. Vicki pays attention to details, and both her and her husband were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again or recommend Vicki to others. Great experience!

  • Think of an intelligent and accomplished couple, full of stories to tell. Put them in a typical and comfortable American house. Add 2 cute dogs and 1 fluffy cat. Finalize it with delicious food. That's what you're gonna find here. And more!

Vicky and Ken are a lovely couple. I came to Sacramento in a special personal mission and they couldn't have been more supportive!

    I definitely recommend them!

  • Our hosts Vicky and Ken were wonderful. They were sensitive to our situation (holding a memorial for our Mother) and cooked us a wonderful breakfast where we dined in their formal dining room. Each day with lots of family in town, we were on the go and in and out of our private entryway. That was nice. One of our kids had Many delays on his flight from Maine due to weather. Our hosts opened up another bedroom for him which was very thoughtful and nurturing as he didn't arrive until midnight (after traveling - All day with many hours in the uncomfortable airports). They were there to meet our needs even down to helping us repair the frame on the wedding photo. The suite space is tight but the bed comfortable and we would recommend this nice location to airbnb to travelers. A very nice couple with two well behaved and sweet dogs. We are thankful for their hospitality and generosity.

  • My husband and I were just there for a quick over night stay but had such an amazing time at this place. It felt just like an adorable little Bed & Breakfast. Our hosts were so helpful with suggestions on where to eat, and what to check out while in the area. Plus we had fresh made OJ from their orange trees, and fresh apple muffins for breakfast. I would definitely stay here again, and their animals were very friendly. The room was the perfect size, andhad everything you could need. Thanks again Ken and Victoria!

  • I recently relocated to Northern CA from Boston and chose this B& B because of the great reviews. Vicky and Ken are great people and their home is really nice. I stayed in the private suite, but the other rooms are really nice as well, and have lovely furnishing. I had some really great conversations with them, but they also respected my privacy. Breakfast was always very nicely laid out and welcoming.

I also appreciated the company of the pets, all of whom were very friendly and lovable. You must be a pet lover to enjoy your stay, as they are always part of the conversation. I highly recommend staying here.

I believe life is short, and we should all try to be kind to one another and leave the world better (or at least no worse) than we found it. I'm a wife, a mom, a sister, a former Girl Scout leader (9 years), a civil engineer, a manager, a mentor, and a friend. My hobbies include making things (quilts, stained glass windows, dolls, and I tried blowing glass once), being outdoors (kayaking, camping, white water rafting), photography, baking, and reading. I like theater, music, and movies. I'm a native Californian and have lived here my entire life. My husband, Ken, is one of the nicest people I know. He is also an engineer and all around handy person. He knows something about almost everything, except French literature. He likes music, reading (science fiction, mostly), and building stuff. We're empty nesters. We have two wonderful kids, of whom we are very proud. We recycle, compost, and have a photovoltaic array on our roof to reduce our dependence on the "grid." I love to travel. My most memorable adventures include seeing sea turtles hatching on the beach in Mexico; having humpback whales surround our boat for about an hour in Hawaii; watching a lion hunt a gazelle in Botswana; rappelling into a cave in New Zealand to zip line through a pitch black cavern (and then free-climbing up two small waterfalls to get back out); having a police escort on about 12 miles of closed freeway to the closing ceremonies of a conference at the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China; and taking a series of gondolas over Mt. Blanc to get from France to Italy (with my kids in tow). I've traveled most of the US and parts of western Europe. I'd like to sail around the Greek Islands. I also love to entertain and host guests! I like staying in BnBs and I've always wanted to run one, mostly to meet interesting people and make sure that they have a good experience. In Ireland, it seems that most people have a bnb in their homes. When I heard about airbnb, I thought "What a great idea!" PS: Our animals are friendly and well behaved in the house once they get over their initial excitement of meeting new people. My border collie mix (Sophie) will protect you from wolves (she's very good at it -- we've never seen one around the house), and my bassett hound mix (Colin) will sit in your lap if you let him (but don't because he is too long to fit). Our kitty (Mulan) does what she wants, mostly. She might strike up a conversation with you if she likes you.
