About this listing
Our three-room "California Dreamin' Suite" includes continental breakfast with homebaked pastries and more: a private living room, separate bedroom, newly remodeled private bath, and private entry through our garden, patio with gas BBQ, and a pool.
The other part of your bedroom has a dresser and small desk. There are fluffy white robes for your use.
Enter through our garden gate and step back in time to a period when life in California was more relaxed, but do it while enjoying modern comforts. This spa-like private three-room suite is on the ground floor of our 4-bedroom 3-bath tri-level home. The rest of the house is up one level, giving you the entire floor to yourself. The suite's bedroom features a double bed with pillowtop mattress, luxurious linens, a matelasse bedspread and duponi silk comforter. There is a 1940s "waterfall" style vanity, dresser, and nightstand. You can put your suitcase on the wooden luggage rack, but there is no need to live out of ot it. The closet and dresser drawers are available for you to put away your things.
The former half bath referenced in some of the reviews was totally remodeled in 2015 to add a luxurious shower with both a handheld and rainfall shower, and features a dual-flush toilet, granite counter with basin, and a heated floor too keep your toes warm. Bath, hand and wash towels are provided as are fluffy robes for your use.
We are both native Californians, and the living room of suite is decorated with art featuring scenes of California. There is a couch, comfortable arm chair, and large credenza (my sewing cabinet), the top of which can be opened out to make a very large workspace with a work chair. The living room has a microwave and a mini-refrigerator for your exclusive use. There is a coffee bar with a coffee maker and an electric tea kettle. You are welcome to bring in your own food for lunch or dinner. There is a small foldup "bistro set" that you can set up to provide table space for two people. Or, in temperate weather, you may prefer to enjoy your meals on the covered patio outside your suite, which has a gas barbeque with a side burner, a deep utility sink (cold water only), a table and chairs, and a ceiling fan and spray misters if you would like to enjoy your meals next to our pool. The cabinet under the coffee maker has dishes and bowls, glasses, flatware, and a blender.
The suite has central air conditioning and heat. There is a floor model oscellating fan if you are still hot in the summer. The suite has hardwood and tile floors, and the small (1") step from the yard to the living room make the suite wheelchair accessable. The bathroom shower is walk in. However, the areas rugs, the doorways, and the narrow spaces in both the bath and bedroom would make it difficult to get a wheelchair into the bath or near the bed. The bedroom accommodates 2 guests, but the living room is spacious enough for our a queen sized aerobed which accommodates two more. Please let us know if you would like us to set it up and make it up with regular linens.

Interaction with Guests
We are experienced travelers, and we understand what other travelers require. Our goal is to provide all that and more. We have lots of tourist info for Sacramento and other parts of California as well as personal knowledge of much of the state. We can help you plan your day or the rest of your trip. Or if you prefer, you can just sit back and relax in privacy.
We live in a tree-lined suburban neighborhood near the junction of I-80 and Business 80, about 9 miles to the northeast of downtown Sacramento, and 20 minutes by car from the Sacramento Airport. The houses in our neighborhood are custom built and the lots very from a quarter-acre to a few acres. Some properties in the neighborhood have horses. If you want to take a walk, we can tell you where they are. Auburn Boulevard (half a mile away) was the main highway before the interstate was built, and is lined with a variety of businesses.
There are two parks and a nature trail nearby. We are a short drive from recreational opportunities on the American River and the American River greenbelt. There is free street parking in front of our home.
If you are taking public transportation, we are less than 2 miles from the Watt and I-80 light rail station, where you can catch the #1 bus to a stop about that is 1/2 mile from our home. It takes about 45 minutes to get to our house without a car from downtown using public transportation. However, I work downtown. Depending on my work schedule, I am happy to pick up or drop off travelers downtown (the Amtrack and Greyhound stations are both a short distance from my office) or from the Watt and I-80 light rail station near my house. The new Megabus stop at the Q Street Light Rail station is an easy 45 bus ride (get on the #82 Regional Transit bus at the station and get off a short 4 minute walk from our house).
If you need to rent a car, there is also an Enterprise Rental Car agency open 7 am - 6 pm M-F and Saturday mornings that is an easy 1 mile walk from our house (and they will pick you up from here).
If you don't have a car, the closest restaurants within walking distance are a sandwich shop (0.8 mile), a pizza place (0.9 mile), an "American" restaurant (1.2 miles), a Denny's coffee shop (1.2 miles), a Mexican Restaurant (1.4 miles), and an excellent vegetarian restaurant (1.5 miles). Some of these restaurants, as well as other local restaurants, will deliver.
Please see our guidebook for this listing for restaurant and other recommendations.
Other Things to Note
We have two very friendly medium sized dogs and a cat. The pets live in our house, but do not go into the suite, and have their own side yard separate from the main garden/pool area. However, we do sometimes let them into the main yard when we are outside. Please keep the gate to the yard and the front door closed at all times so the cat and dogs don't get out--even if they beg. Our animals are friendly and well behaved in the house once they get over their initial excitement of meeting new people. My border collie mix (Sophie) will protect you from wolves (she's very good at it -- we've never seen one around the house), and my bassett hound mix (Colin) will sit in your lap if you let him (but he is too long to fit). Our kitty (Mulan) does what she wants, mostly. She might strike up a conversation with you if she likes you.
We have three listings at this location, including this one, on Airbnb. There may be other guests present during your stay.
We don't wear shoes in the house, but you can wear yours if you want.
Laundry privileges can be arranged for a small charge to cover our costs (instituted after a guest visiting her parents in Sacramento asked if she could do 10 loads of laundry here--we pratice and encourage water conservation). See our blog under "Useful Information."
We accept cash, Paypal, or credit cards for any additional charges.
Please note that there is an extra charge per guest for more than two guests.
If you have any concerns or suggestions that would make your stay more enjoyable, please let us know. We have made changes based on suggestions from our guests.
No smoking in the house. You may smoke on the deck, on the covered patio, or in the backyard. We don't smoke, but we have ashtrays for your cigarette butts.
Normal check-in time is from 3 pm to 6 pm. Normal check-out is 11 am. Earlier check-in and later check-out may be available depending on whether there are other guests staying in your room the morning of your arrival and evening of your departure, respectively. If you need to check in or out at times other than our normal times, please ask before you arrive. In any event, we would be happy to store your luggage for you until your room is ready the morning of your arrival or afternoon of your departure, and you are welcome to use the common areas of our home.
Please do not leave wet items on the wood floors, furniture or bed covers. It ruins them. Coasters are provided for your glasses, and we can provide hot pads or trivets upon request.
No need to make the bed when you leave. We will wash and change the bedding. We try to converve water, but if you need fresh bed linens at any time, please let us know.
Please remember to leave your room keys! There is a $25 charge for keys that are not returned.
The bath has been newly remodeled. It has a dual flush toilet, a basin sink on a granite countertop, and heated floors.
