Daniel and Patricia were the warmest hosts we had on our tour of Patagonia. La Calandria is about a 15 minute drive North of Madryn so expect to pay about $180 AP for a cab ride from the city. Once you're there it is so nice and peaceful, there are plenty of birds to watch, and the rooms are a very comfortable space and size. This is the perfect location if you're planning on driving the Peninsula Valdez (which we highly recommend!). Daniel went above and beyond to help us with details and advice, his generosity made our trip so much more enjoyable. Patricia cooked us a delicious pizza on our first night which was so welcoming and made our first night very relaxing. The tomatoes and olives were grown right on their property and were delicious.
The breakfast they serve is very good, fresh squeezed orange juice, homemade jams from fruit they grow, nice homemade bread, and all the other usual continental fixings.
We rented a car and that allowed us to explore the area, we did the peninsula, punta tombo, and punta ninfas. Keep in mind that without a car you are a little bit isolated. Daniel helped recommend a car rental agency. Daniel was also very helpful in his communication with me before we arrived, he answered all my questions and ensured we made it to the property from the bus station (it might be tricky to get a cab off the street to take you there if you've never been before).
You can tell that these two are proud of what they do and they love the natural space they live in. It was such a pleasure to meet them and have them open their cottage to us! Gracias.
My girlfriend and I stayed at La Calandria for about a week. Our visit to Puerto Madryn was made special because of Dany and Patricia's kindness and beautiful home. Their property is about 15 minutes drive from town and tranquil break from city life in Buenos Aires. We were without a car for a few days, and Dany and Patricia gave us rides to and from town, and recommended an excellent tour to see the elephant seals. They also made us a delicious dinner the first night, made complete with a bottle of Malbec! I would highly recommend staying at La Calandria.
We chose Chacra La Calandria because we wanted stay in a quiet place to escape the city rush of Buenos Aires and what we found was a real fairy tale. We had a very nice room with big windows where we could watch the stars at night and wake up with a beautiful sunrise. Everything in La Calandria is arranged with great attention to detail and lovely decorated, so you feel comfortable from the very first moment.
The homemade breakfast with a delicious "budin" was great. But still the most important thing of a good stay are the hosts. Because Dany was out of town, we stayed with Patricia and we were so happy to get to know a person like her. She is a wonderful warm person and we never felt like being guests but friends of her and we loved to hear from her experiences. We are sure that we will go back to stay with them soon!
It's recommended to have a car that it takes just a few minutes to go to the city and it's also on the route to the Península Valdés.
Thank you for this great experience Patricia and Dany!
A DREAM COMES TRUE
This was exactly what we had in mind. Such lovely rooms, house, amazing breakfast... Patricia & Daniel are the most charming hosts ever. They could help you and be so discreet at the same time. They gave us so many really good advices by e-mail before our arrival to help us in our trip.
This is like being home with all the confort of an very good hotel. It's a true paradise, so peaceful and quiet. Nature all around you and this amazing lavender and olive plantation they created. It's trully inspiring to see what they done here.
We have a very lovely diner with them the first evening. It was so good and they're so charming. So if you're lazy and don't want to go in town to eat, this is the perfect option. At the same time, they gave us really good adresses of restaurants. So no pressure to eat at their home.
So if you want to discover Patagonia with real Argentinian people and in an amazing place, this is it!!
We only want to go back!!!
If you're looking for something a little different than the usual "oceanfront" Puerto Madryn, this is it!!! A Lavender farm just a short drive (approx 15 mins) from the bus terminal! Amazing, relaxing, my kids (twins, age 9) loved the path leading to the cabins, and enjoyed playing with the friendly dogs and cat on site. My mother's friend (73 years old!) was also comfortable, and enjoyed a tarot card reading from Patricia while we were there.
Since we did not have a car, Dany was excellent in arranging a local driver for us for trips to Punta Tombo (penguins!!!) and other nearby nature treasures, as well as transfers to and from the bus station. Dany and Patricia really know the area, and are passionate about sharing the experience with their guests. We got to see things I never would have imagines. Very cool!
The smell of lavender when you arrive at the property is amazing! If you come at the right time of year, you can participate in their lavender harvest; we ended up buying several bottles of essential lavender oil and seed satchels.
One point I would make is that if you are not driving, you may want to bring a few groceries with you -- for a fee, Dany and Patricia provide DELICIOUS lunches and dinners, but having a few things on hand enables you to be a little more independent when it comes to food. (There is a kettle and tea, and also some plates and utensils, in the cabin.)
We loved hanging out in the breakfast area to surf the internet and just enjoy the serenity of the place. And the comforters in the cabins were super cozy -- between that and the fresh Patagonian air, we slept VERY well.
Excellent séjour, hôtes très accueillants, chambres très confortables, petit déjeuner royal (avec jus d'orange pressé, assez rare en Argentine), dîner de grande qualité en option! Un endroit plein de charme.
Excellent stay here, very nice place, real attentive hosts, beautiful and confortable bedrooms, perfect breakfast (with fresh orange juice), fantastic optional dinner. A place full of charm!

We are Patricia & Daniel. We were born at the Province of Mendoza next to the imposing landscape of the Cordillera de los Andes. We had two children and soon we moved to the Capital City of Buenos Aires were we both developed our professional careers and raised our children.
About 30 years later, in 2009, we moved to the city of Puerto Madryn looking for reconnecting with nature at the immensity of the New Golf.
Patricia is a Doctor (Psychiatrist) and I, already retired after a long ride in the multinational corporations's business management, we built our own ranch "Chacra La Calandria" in the area of "El Doradillo", sanctuary of the Frank Whale, where we develop the world's southernmost lavender plantation!
We love nature, music, gathering with friends... and good gastronomy !
