Harlem is a world famous tourist area with great shopping, dining, and nightlife. It is very safe. We have lived here for 3 years. In fact our local police precinct has the LOWEST crime rate of all New York City 5 boros.
A short walk to Central park and within 1 block the express and local subways make you 10-15 mins from all NYC tourist attractions via major transportation hubs. There is express subway and bus service direct to Laquardia and JFK airports.
Within a 3 block radius you can access the A; 2,3; 4,5,6 subways and both the Long Island Railroad and New England Railroad lines.
125th Street is filled with major retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment. Within 1 block is world renowned restaurants Sylvia's, Red Rooster, Jacobs, and Chez Lucienne. Entertainment includes the Apollo Theater, Harlem Jazz Museum, Cotton Club, Lennox Lounge, and Red Rooster within 1-2 blocks. 10 minute subway to Time Square and Broadway theaters.
We love living here because of the international flair and ethnic diversity. The neighborhood is friendly, safe, and quiet. I wouldn't be anywhere else in the city.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at the appartment and would come back again any time. There are a looot good Restaurants and shops (such as Starbucks, CVS, H&M, DSW and and and...) around the appartment and things you can do. There is a bar right under the appartment building were my parents went to watch Soccer.
People in NY were shocked when we saif we are staying in Harlem but they were thinking about the bad spots in Harlem. This place is actually pretty safe. I never felt in danger or so... there are even security cameras in the entrance hall.
The appartment itself was clean and had all we had. There arew towels, sheets, Wi-Fi, ACs and a coffee machine (yes I need that!!). I read in some other comments that there weren't enough towels or it wasn't clean.. but I can not confirm that. We had enough towels and it was really clean. When we arrived you could smell the typical smell of cleaning supplies.
We were 4 People and had enough space... also we could have added more space to sleep if we would have used the Futon but we didn't need it.
The Subway Station is really close... not even one minute to walk. Or if you Need a different subway train it's just a few stops by bus. You can be at Times Square or Downtown in just a few minutes.
If you need help, you will get help. I asked Justine several questions and she answered always withing a few minutes. Also there is a guy living in one of the apparments of the building who can always help you. He's really nice and will always greet you if he sees you. We never felt that there is nobody to help us out.
So I really recommend Justines appartment ;) ;) enjoy your stay and the City!!

  • Apartment was really well located. Cool bar two doors down and Sylvia's diner was right around the corner. I've been to New York a few times but definitely my favorite trip by far. Hosts were very prompt and helpful with any and all questions. Harlem was a real highlight of the trip and I found the people to be nice and friendly. Cinema a few blocks down, very useful when you just want to take it easy for the night.

  • Great location!! Quick and easy access to subway and bus. Also, short walking distance to great restaurants. Building was quiet. Surprisingly, we did not hear much street noise at all. Had a great stay!!

  • El pis està molt ben situat al barri de Harlem i al costat d'una parada de metro i autobussos. Si agafeu el pis porteu de casa un ganibet per pelar la fruita i tallar el pa. Respecte de la casa estiguerem molt agust i molt tranquils.

  • Good location: right by subway, and easy walk to great restaurants and the Apollo. Less than 15 minutes walk to Central Park.
Building was quiet and apartment was clean and comfortable, as advertised.
As others have mentioned, the TV never worked ... but host did come by to investigate. As well, hosts were responsive and easy to get hold of, and they had the building management fix an annoying beeping sound in the hallway right away.
    Overall, a good experience.

  • Snow was falling when we arrived, but the apartment was warm. The neighborhood was colorful, but I felt safe enough, even when I was just out with my 18 year old daughter, and my 16 year old niece. I would not have wanted them out by themselves though, except for the short block between the door of the apartment complex and the subway. Starbucks, Staples, and CVS are all within a block as well. There is (email hidden) just under the apartment complex.
The apartment super (Franz) was really helpful with the few issues we had, anything we had issue with was resolved right away. We stayed for a week, so it would have been nice to have cleaning supplies to keep up after our own dirt a bit better. I was fine with the level of cleanliness, but my sister would have probably booked out somewhere else or invested in cleaning supplies to bring it up to snuff. Sheets were clean, dishes washed, just hair, dust, used q-tips, things like that that would sketch some people out. Nothing we couldn't sweep into the closet in the first 20 minutes of being there. The toilet was clean too (worthy of a mention).
It has definitely been pulled together through (website hidden) and Ikea specifically for the purpose of a rental. It is functional. Not a place you feel like hanging out in, but it hit all of the things important to me.
    1.) Safe
2.) Easy to get to anywhere the subway will take me.
    3.) Warm
4.) Affordable way to put up 5 people.
    5.) Comfortable beds
    6.) Serviceable kitchen
    7.) Hot water
8.) Clean sheets, toilet, towels, and kitchen.
9.) Nearby places to get anything we might need.
