Interaction with Guests
I can help with suggestions on restaurants, sights and itineraries. I am a long time resident of SF.
The apartment is situated 2 blocks from Cortland Ave. where you'll find a grocery store (The Good Life), restaurants (Piqueo's (Peruvian), Liberty Cafe (American), Vega's (Italian)), cafes, bakeries, and a yoga studio (Bernal Yoga). The top of Bernal, 5 blocks up, offers a panoramic view of the city and the Bay, and is an open space park.
There are several bus lines close by, and ample street parking.
To get from the airport (SFO) to here:
1) Take a taxi. This will take 20 minutes, and cost around $35.
2) Take a Shuttle. For example, Super Shuttle charges $17 one way for 1 person, and $27 one way for 2 people.
3) Take public transportation.
Take BART from SFO to 24th and Mission $(8.50), and then take the 67 Bernal Heights to Folsom and Tompkins ($2.25). Walk 4 blocks west on Tompkins, and turn left on Anderson St.
Alternatively, you can take BART to
Glen Park Station, in San Francisco ($8.25). Then take the #23 Monterey bus ($2.25) at the corner of Diamond St.
Other Things to Note
All cookware is stainless steel or ceramic. I provide tea, coffee beans, coffee grinder, olive oil, strainer, etc., all the basics you would need to make a good meal. I have some maps, and can offer a comprehensive knowledge of the city to help make your stay memorable. There is no TV.
I would prefer respectful guests, preferably over 30, who would treat this apartment as they might their own. I live upstairs, so please observe quiet time after 11 p. m. I will allow 1 dog, at $20 extra per night. There is a small dog door that leads out to the garden. Dogs must be house trained, well behaved, and must stay with their owners. No smoking in the apartment, but you may smoke outside.
From Jul 26, 2015 - Jul 27, 2016 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
Pearl was a wonderful host! She welcomed us warmly. The apartment was well-equipped, cozy, clean and stylish. We had a great time in San Francisco and would definitly stay again there!
Our stay at Pearl's was great: the apartment is cozy and (website hidden) was very easy since the kitchen was fully-equipped. We were travelling with a toddler, so the rear garden was great for him to play in it. Pearl also provided us with a high chair, which was very helpful during meals. Regarding the neighborhood, Bernal Heights is a quiet area with nice restaurants and some little shops, perfect if you wish to spend some relaxed time in San Francisco.
I had a wonderful experience staying here. While I didn't get to meet Pearl in person, she was always quick to respond to emails and texts and the information she provided went above and beyond what I expected.
The apartment was great: clean and welcoming. Very similar to what you see in the photos. The Bernal Heights neighborhood was a lot of fun to explore, especially all the shops a few blocks away on Cortland Ave. It is a little farther away from the typical tourist attractions, but easy enough to navigate with planning for travel time and a bus pass. Actually, prior to staying here, I was staying near Union Square, and I much preferred staying in this apartment/neighborhood!
We had a fantastic stay with Pearl! She was a fabulous host and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. The apartment is well equipped with all basics and it's close proximity to Cortland Avenue meant that we could easily access great coffee shops, restaurants and a grocery store. Pearl's tips on places to see and eat were very helpful too. If we're in San Francisco again sometime we would definitely book here again if available.
First time using airbnb and I'd have to say it was an enjoyable one. The owner, Pearl, met with us shortly after we arrived. She explained things about the apt. and gave us suggestions on which restaurants and places of interests that she she thought we'd enjoy. She also had maps of public transportation and showed us which routes we could take to get to different places (if we choose to). She was very friendly and helpful.
The apt. was clean and had a nice homely feel to it. I was impressed by the kitchen. The kitchen had many appliances as well as utensils and pans to use if we wanted to cook our own meals. Bed was very comfortable. There was no TV but this is not a problem since we were out of the house most of the time but it is something to be aware of if you like to relax and watch TV. There was a lot of drawer and closet space.
The location was good for getting around because it was at near the intersection of 2 freeways. Also there was a bus stop about 2 blocks away that took us to the BART station so we ended up using that most of the time. Pearl was nice enough to have clipper cards ready for us to use when we arrived. The cards are used by all the public transportation in the city so it is very simple to transfer from one form to another.
If you do rent a car be aware that the streets are basically one lane wide because of the cars parked on both sides and its located on a hill. The parking situation can be tricky since one side of the street has street sweeping on Tuesday and the other side on Thursday. We had a compact rental so we were able to find space but it can be difficult so consider skipping the rental and just using public transportation and a service like uber.
Overall, a great place to stay. It was such a wonderful first time experience with Airbnb and we hope that our future interactions are as fantastic as this one was.
Pearl was great. She's the perfect host and the place was better than expected! I lived in the Bay Area for several years and never knew about Bernal Heights. Very cool hood that's quaint. Pearl's place is just a few blocks from Cortland that has lots of great restaurants, shops, etc. The pizza at Vega is amazing. Overall a great place to stay, if you like cleanliness, privacy and awesomeness!
We had a really great stay with Pearl! She was experiences unexpected construction and went above and beyond to accommodate us! She had great recommendations and the apartment was really nice, clean, and fun to stay in! We'd definitely go back!
