About this listing
Third Floor Sweet is the third floor of our house, blocks from Smith College and close to downtown Northampton. This spacious L-shaped studio has three separate areas. The bedroom area has a king-sized bed, club chair, dresser and flat-screened cable television. The living space has two couches, practically twin- bed sized (33" wide and 60" long), that can be used as extra sleeping space. There is also a small work space with a desk. There is a kitchen area with a small refrigerator, coffee maker, electric tea kettle and microwave. There are great views out the sliding door from the table and two chairs. And the bathroom is roomy and includes a corner stall shower that has great water pressure!
You have your own separate entrance via an outdoor spiral staircase which means you are free to come and go as you please. Plus there is a small deck to hang out and watch the birds and the sunrise with your coffee.
The continental breakfast includes coffee/tea, juice, yogurt, and delicious homemade granola. The breakfast is left for you to enjoy in the Sweet at your leisure.
If you're inclined to spend time in the room, you'll find it light filled during the day and peaceful. If your time here takes you into Northampton downtown or to Smith College, you might enjoy walking; we're five blocks from Smith and downtown is just beyond that.
This is such a vibrant area to visit! The choices of things to do include seeing charming, local towns, good restaurants, music, bars, bookstores, parks, colleges (Smith, Hampshire, Amherst, Mt. Holyoke, Umass Amherst), shopping, art galleries, theatre, farmers markets, botanic gardens. Very close by you'll find historic interest, hiking, biking, all that the Berkshires offer (an easy one hour drive to Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, MASSMoCA). And there's so much beauty in the Pioneer Valley itself. Hope to see you soon!
~Please note on the Calendar that we're closed during the coldest winter months (mid Nov. - end of Feb.) So Spring is a welcome time for two reasons - Airbnb guests and warmer weather!! ~
If you're outside the house late at night or early in the morning, please be considerate of our neighbors. And drive carefully in the neighborhood; there are lots of children, runners, dogs, etc. Sorry but pets aren't allowed in the Sweet. Please turn down heat/air conditioning when you're going to be away from the Sweet for awhile. Thank you! Main house rules: Relax and enjoy this beautiful area!!! Treat the Third Floor Sweet as your own, private hotel suite.
I needed a quiet space to rest and reflect and the Third Floor Sweet was just perfect. The little deck is surrounded by beautiful trees and is delightful for morning coffee, reading and relaxing. Virginia is a gracious host, provides great instructions and is skilled at being just the right amount of present and accommodating. The morning granola, yogurt and coffee were delicious. The Sweet is comfortable and well-appointed and provides space to relax both inside and out. A 15 min walk to downtown restaurants and shops, it's perfectly located. A wonderful respite from big city life.
We had a lovely three nights in this peaceful space. Hosts Virginia and Rob are warm, generous, and accommodating in all possible ways. Yummy homemade granola is a breakfast feature! We loved being up in the treetops on the back balcony. The Sweet suite is located about 8 blocks from downtown N'hampton, which makes for an easy walk from this quiet neighborhood just a couple of blocks off Rt 9. Comfortable beds! Very fun spiral stairwell for private entrance! We are super happy we choose to stay here and would definitely stay again when we have the chance.
Virginia was a warm and welcoming host. Coordinating time of arrival was smooth, and she provided a tour of the suite upon arrival. She also provided a questionnaire to determine what to serve for breakfast, which was very thoughtful!
The Third Floor Sweet is a luxury accommodation, with a private entrance, a large bathroom and bedroom/sitting room, and an eating and food preparation area with a microwave and fridge/freezer. It was a delight to visit!
Virginia and Rob were excellent hosts. Virginia made me feel very welcome, showed me the neighborhood, informed me about walks I could take while there, often asked me if she could do anything to help, and also let me use her home to host a small dinner party. I would stay there again in a minute!
Virginia was very welcoming!
They loved the space!
It's a wonderful neighborhood as I know from prior experience.
Virginia was such a wonderful host. The Sweet was the perfect little getaway. It was a beautiful and short walk into town and a lovely place to relax after a day of exploring. Virinia made sure that we felt right at home and we were very comfortable. We loved the homemade granola for breakfast!
We had a wonderful experience staying in the Third Floor Sweet for Smith College graduation. The space is very comfortable with an amazing bed and great places to read or relax in the chaise lounges or armchair. Virginia was very welcoming and on our arrival asked what time we would like our breakfast. How perfect to have coffee, homemade granola, yogurt, and juice dropped off for us un the mornings.
The house is in a lovely quiet neighborhood just a few blocks from Smith College and also in walking distance of great downtown Northampton. I wish I had known about the "Sweet" for prior visits to my daughter at Smith!
About the Host, Virginia
Hi! I'm Virginia. Over the years I've enjoyed being a massage therapist and have worked in salons, fabric stores and offices.
I enjoy walking, hiking, reading, dancing and hanging out with friends. I'm fanatic about trees and advocate planting as many as possible, as soon as possible! My favorite music is blues. I enjoy most anything that has to do with people's lives.
It's important to me that my house gives off that sense of lived in and loved in every room. My husband and I don't travel all that much; we like to be home and do projects. When I do travel, I like to be near water.
I try to follow the Four Agreements from a book I read once: Always Do your Best, Don't take anything Personally, Don't make Assumptions and Be Impeccable with your Word.
