About this listing
Our light and airy guest house is a sweet get away that is still close to Ubud. Walking and biking distance to the great food and conveniences of Ubud. Live in one of the most vibrant communities of artists in the world - Pengosekan.
This self contained unit is on the Cudamani Pondok compound. The cottage feels is surrounded by trees and beautiful garden. It is located next to the family home of Dewa Berata and Emiko Susilo, internationally recognized leaders of Gamelan Cudamani. www.cudamani.org Set off the street, you will feel a part of the Balinese community- which includes roosters, neighboring cows. If you like the sounds of frogs, crickets, Balinese lizards, occasional gamelan and dance rehearsals, then this is the place for you.
The ground floor has simple cooking facilities as well as a quiet sitting area. Upstairs the bedroom has one queen bed, dresser armory and a three sided veranda. Bathroom facilities located on the ground floor include a shower with warm water. The facility is clean with basic housekeeping support. However, we seek self-sufficient guests who can manage your own daily activities and who respect the lives of the Balinese families that surround this cottage. Breakfast is not included, WIFI can be arranged.
Our village of Pengosekan is directly south of Ubud (walking distance of 15 minutes to the south edge of Ubud). An abundance of restaurants (local and for tourist) are readily available.
PLEASE NOTE: At times there are music rehearsals happening at our neighbor's house. It is gamelan and good musicianship but it is clearly audible from the room.
Rehearsals are scheduled through Sept. 11, 2015.
Sept. 11 - Feb occasional rehearsals
Feb - May 2016, no rehearsals are anticipated.
You will have your private bedroom and bath, as well as an open downstairs area that is all your own. There is a large "bale bengong" which is where you may see some dance rehearsals. The main house is our private home.
Interaction with Guests
Emiko and Ida can help you get set up and of course, if you have any urgent situations. Emiko is usually working on various projects during the day and in the afternoons can be found at rehearsals nearby (which you can drop in and see if you'd like). We are happy to give you as much privacy as you like.
Pengosekan is renowned for its arts. It is a hub of artistic activities. Internationally acclaimed musicians, dancers and composers are just walking around the streets! I love the paintings, baskets and gamelan that surround us here.
Walk or bike to Ubud. We have a fabulous transport person who can help you get anywhere. I can give you his contact info once we confirm our booking!
Other Things to Note
We love our home and would love to have kind, open hearted people there. Our garden is full of big big trees, ferns, birds, butterflies. When you walk off the street into the compound, the cool air from the shade of the trees always makes me think "I'm so glad this is my home." This is not a hermetically sealed 5 star hotel, it's a real home. If you want the Four Seasons, this isn't the place for you. But if you want to feel what it's like to be in Bali, you're in the right place.
We seek guests who will feel comfortable living in BALI. This is not a party house, and are we are not tourist business. The house is great for a couple seeking a place to be together or single person who is visiting Bali to write, do yoga, or to get to know this beautiful island. This guest house is clean and safe and has core housekeeping support (by family members). Cudamani has supported the gamelan and dance education of hundreds of youth in Pengosekan village.
Windows or doors on all sides of the room, designed with the breeze in mind. No AC needed, better for you and better for Bali :-)
